New Delhi: In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislative Party on Wednesday.

He is scheduled to take oath of office for the second time on December 12.

New Delhi: Terrorism was the big campaign issue for the BJP in these assembly elections elections. In speech after speech BJP leaders emphasised that the Congress-led government could not tackle terrorism because of its so-called vote bank politics.

But this rather divisive message has been decisively rejected by the Indian voter.

As the counting day of the five state Assembly elections on December 8, 2008 came to a close, India was once again reminded of the enormous dignity of its democratic process.

As the staggered electoral process unfolded, Mumbai was attacked by a group of Pakistan trained terrorists. It seemed that the elections would be overshadowed by one of the worst terror strikes in India.

Bhopal: No one would have expected that the soft and suave Shivraj Singh Chauhan would twice become the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh when he launched his political career by being elected president of Bhopal's Model Higher Secondary School Students Union in 1975.

He soon came into contact with the then Jana Sangh (now the Bharatiya Janata Party) and participated in the underground movement against the 1975-77 emergency. He was imprisoned in Bhopal Jail for some time.

Lucknow: Admitting she had expected the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to win more seats, party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said on Monday she was quite satisfied with the results of the assembly elections in five states.

“I am satisfied with the performance of our party in various state assembly polls,” Mayawati told a hurriedly called press conference in Lucknow on Monday evening.

It was a landslide victory for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

The party showed full faith in it's chief ministerial candidate and he didn't let them down.

Bhopal: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power in Madhya Pradesh with a comfortable majority bagging more than 140 of the 230 seats at stake, showing that the party's strategy of projecting a chief ministerial candidate with a clean image worked.

The BJP also adopted the Modi formula of dropping a large number of sitting MLAs to counter the local anti-incumbency mood. While the BJP's winning figure is put at 142, the exact number will be released by the poll panel Tuesday.

New Delhi: Congress defied Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) aggressive stance on terror and price rise in the Assembly elections for the five states - Delhi, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh - to register comprehensive wins in the first two states.

The Grand Old Party of India also sprung a surprise by becoming the single largest party in Rajasthan falling just three seats short of the half-way mark in the 200-member Assembly.

New Delhi: With Congress today biting the electoral dust in Madhya Pradesh for the second time, party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia called for "collective introspection".

"We need to do collective introspection (on how to revive party fortunes in Madhya Pradesh)," Scindia told news channels as results of the assembly elections trickled in showing a clear victory for the incumbent BJP. Scindia admitted that despite putting in efforts the party fell short in the eyes of the public in the elections.
