Technicolour and Loving It

Brokeback Mountain is sweeping awards all over the place and I'm already waiting to get tickets to see it. Just read it's based on a short story by Annie Proulx (who I've only recently discovered btw and for some strange dyslexic reason read as "Prolux" for the longest time!)...It's always such a treat when books are tastefully made into movies. I mean, it's such a thin line and so easy to dash people's expectations, especially readers. I still think it's better to read first and then watch, because you give your imagination that much more room to play and grow (and soar! if you're lucky). Like with TLOTR. You have to read it, watch it, re-read it, re-watch it. And you could do that again and again, and you'd still not be bored. Peter Jackson's vision totally complements god's (that is Tolkien's)and hobbits everywhere cheered that whole endeavour. I....

Books, covers, bursting blood vessels

Karan Thapar's book was released yesterday...He said some interesting, not quite self-effacing things, but one of the things that struck me was when he said that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover. He emphasised this particularly because he says people tend to judge him by his TV persona though he's actually got a "softer" side, and is idosyncratic and eccentric! Hmm...and just the other day at a book shop a long-lost (an over the seven seas kind of long-lost) friend couldn't stop laughing at me for picking up books because of their glossy covers. C'mon though, that's the whole point of slick design, don't you think? I've discovered so many brilliant books (granted, if I'd been more clued in I might have actually heard of the authors first!)just because the glitz caught my eye. Like the jazzy Artemis Fowl covers, what a treat! And Ali Smith's Accidental...And....

The (second to) Last of the Mohicans

Borgub is a Nordic stone goddess (no, not troll!) Goddess, or god, even, why bother with gender when you're divine. But unfortunately Borgub's Lair is no longer the fjords of yore, but the mean streets of the original sin city, that is Delhi... So Borgub watches and notices things and gets blown away every once in a while. (Very difficult thing to do, blow away a goddess of stone, but you know how it is!) Every so often the goddess will share these tidbits with the mere mortals and invite feedback. Like the problem with the language impediment. Many of us have really no excuse when it comes to supposed "mother tongues". I mean if you're grating on someone's ears with your spoken Hindi (which is otherwise such a mellifluous language...lol) then you know you have issues. I really do. And it's the worst in those auto-rickshaw rides, where I....

Bigger, Faster, Newer!!....Yawn

1IBNLive Google Buzz

It's a brand new year!! Well, not brand new but still not dusty yet around the edges. A time when really anything seems possible...not for long though, ha! The crime and madness of the world doesn't stop for a day, now does it? I was just watching a very young Leo diCaprio and Meryl Streep in Marvin's Room (nice, intense drama with a feel-good ending) and I don't know if it's just an overdose of cinema or the fact that I could've been watching a manic Jack Black in School of Rock, but it felt a bit flat. And I'm pretty sure it's a good movie... So I'm beginning to wonder how cynical the average movie-goer has gotten? (Obviously tooooo much time on my hands! Actually not, but more like your experiences and random thoughts, even, get that much more intense when they're packed into a crazy, hectic day...) Do....
