Who killed kariya Devi?
Kariya Devi's exact age is not known. But she was estimated to be between 95 and 100 years the day she was carried, alive, by her four sons on to the funeral pyre of her dead husband. He again was estimated to be around 100-years-old. On September 20 around 4 pm the heinous act of Sati was allowed to happen in village Banayni of district Chattarpur in Madhya Pradesh yet again. Thankfully the police got into action and all the four sons of Kariya Devi along with nine relatives were charged with murder. All the accused are under arrest. But are they the only ones who are responsible? Exactly one month back, on August 20 a 50-year-old woman, Janakrani, committed sati in Tulsipara village of Sagar district. Tulsipara is around 200 km from Banyani and both are part of the Bundelkhand region that boasts of the Jhansi Ki Rani.....
Murder, probe and demands
The murder of professor HS Sabharwal in Ujjain on August 26 has led to various demands. Some genuine and some not so genuine. As the role of the ABVP--the student wing of the RSS--became clear a demand for sacking the Shivraj Singh government came from the opposition Congress party. Also voices calling for a ban on the RSS could be heard but the most prominent demand doing the rounds these days is for a CBI inquiry into the entire episode. And the campaign to drive this demand home is being spearheaded by Himanshu Sabharwal, the son of the dead professor. So this brings us face to face with one crucial question? Can a CBI probe actually help nail the real culprits? And according to those, supporting this demand the answer to this question is a big yes.
