Touchy Indians Inc.

It was the umpteen call from my editor to cover an umpteenth protest. Frantically he yelled over the phone, "Where are you? What's your plan for today?" And before I could say anything, he pounced upon me, "Listening I am sending you to this protest at Azad Maidan (its every Mumbai protestor's favourite haunt). There are these people called the Touchy Indians Inc. who have organized a unique protest against...uh um...against something just go and find out." So left with no choice; I went to Azad Maidan, braving myself to meet this extraordinary league of gentle?men who called themselves the Touchy Indians Inc. I had heard about them from my colleagues who had covered their other 'unique' protests before. My poor colleagues had to stand in the hot sun while they sat on one of their infinite protests in hi-fi shades fitted with fans. They had gone hungry....

There is sin all over? What is the world coming to? The youth is losing their morality. Nothing is good anymore. Why is there so much sin in the world? Well, you can always hold one person responsible for that. EVE. Remember her? After all, it is she who persuaded Adam to eat that apple. And for all the Indian culture enthusiasts, there is our very own Seeta. Didn't she ask Ram to go after the Golden deer, wasn't it why she was eventually kidnapped? Or for that matter Draupadi, wasn't she humiliated because she laughed at the Kauravas? Hence proven, it is always the woman who is at fault. If she is teased, well she asked for it. And how may I know did she ask? By stepping out of her house you duffers. Don't you remember what the Mumbai police said...wives are to be kept at home. She....

More about Kajal Iyer

Kajal Iyer is a senior correspondent with CNN IBN. She is a gold medalist in Mass Communication from Symbiosis Institute of Media and communication and got placed from campus. It was the shows like Surabhi, The World This Week and regular reading of Sunday Op-ed pages that prompted her to consider journalism as a career. Prior to CNN IBN, she has also worked for newspapers like Times of India, Midday in Pune and the Gujarati eveninger Sanj Samachar in Rajkot. She covers the civic beat in Mumbai and is interested in the basic bijli, paani, sadak brand of journalism, but also loves to cover the ocassional court room drama.
