WHO WON?
Karnataka has voted for a stable Govt. this time. It has voted against the family politics, it has voted against opportunistic politics, it has voted against the babudoms, it has voted against the Long time no see kind of politics, it has voted against "You say what you say, I do what I do" kind of politics, Karnataka has voted against any logical caste equations, Karnataka has broken the barriers of regional politics. It has dismantled the taken for granted peoples' hopes, aspirations and has left them in a vehemence of heart broken condition.
Bangarappa and his two sons losing the elections outright in 'their own' backyard is a straight rejection of family and babuism politics by the so called leaders. Bangarappa losing in his own backyard means that one can not 'rule' the land, but just has to serve the people.
Devegowda and his party have been beaten up cats and....
What BJP Should Do
With the triumphant electoral win in Gujurat last year and in Karnataka now, BJP must ponder as to where its strength and weakness lies. As a party which started its fledgling years as a political arm to RSS; when it was dependent on RSS and its Parivar for organizing and conducting grass root level politics, it has now grown into a formidable opposition party and proved that it can provide an alternative to Congress. What is clear is that if BJP has to come back to power and maintain its UPS - 'Party with difference' - than it must nurture leaders like Narendra Modi and Yeddiyurappa, who have regional presence but have national vision, in long run.
The problem with BJP and RSS is that they don't encourage competent individuals to come above the collective organizational leadership and prove their mettle. Paradoxically, in this aspect they are alike to their....
Karnataka Elections & it's aftermath
Question asked by CNN IBN is valid question. It is very difficult to state that will this election victory revive fortunes of BJP during 2009 General Elections? May be or May not be? Each time election is lost by either of the two national parties, each time this question is asked. I suppose in politics no one can be ruled out. Yes, one thing is certain that the communal tag, tagged by Congress and friends will not work anymore.
I personally feel it is still 50-50 chances of BJP coming to centre. It is not fair to talk of election 2009, as many more state elections are still to take place in 2008. All the elections are really big onces. Even if Congress wins 2 out of 3 states in next coming State elections, same questions will come up. Same CNN IBN will ask how will effect centre. Basically, it....
BJP has to ensure 120+ seats
BJP has done well to secure 110 seats and more importantly, more than the Cong and JD(S) combine put together. Unfortunately, even though the arithmetic is met, it is still not an easy situation for the BJP. They would need the support of at least 10 more MLAs to complete their term. Hopefully this sort of tight situation will force them to give a good governance so that they go from strength to strength a la Gujarat.
It would be a bit premature to argue that they have the momentum going into the General elections. History has shown that usually in states the fate of parties has reversed if there is a General election within 1-2 yrs of acquiring power in the state. However, the BJP to its full credit seems to mastered the art of electioneering and is leaving its rivals a distant second in planning and doing the....
The Price of Inaction
Another Cong bastion falls to the BJP. Only the strategically blind or a die-hard Cong lover would have not seen it coming. There were all the ingredients ready to make BJP the single largest party in the elections,,if not given them an outright majority - JD(S) playing greed politics with both camps, Cong not even putting up a CM nominee rather playing with a pathetic divisive tactic of putting up disparate community figureheads. But more than all of this, i feel two issues have consistently thwarted Cong in almost all state elections in the last 2 years - Weak response to Terrorism and lack of economic reforms. Irrespective of what the LEFT may shout at the Cong/UPA that anti-people policies are hurting the Cong,,we see that even with all the populist NREGA, Farmer Loan write offs,,we still see Cong thumped out of power in states. The analysis is simple and....
Agenda before the New BJP Government
BJP won the elections on issues like price rise and terrrorism. Important issues - but, can the new government do anything that can contain the twin cancer affecting this country? HARDLY.
The two issues above will remain the core concerns of the voter in the days to come and will definitely will be issues on which the next elections will be held.
The one area where this government can do wonders is translating the central government's social sector initiatives in the state. There is enough budgetary allocations and if the BJP government can ensure that it touches the last (wo)man, then they can start dreaming of a second term.
Instead of trying to recreate a Bangalore in Hubli or Bijapur, and try to attract IT industries in each city, the new government should conciuosly build a new industry in each district and have completary core comptency take over. That will create a large....
SECULAR VOTE FALLACY & SHIKARIPURA RESULTS
One of the rationales given for Congress defeat in Karnataka poll is split in "SECULAR" vote. For those giving this explanation, will you please look at the result of SHIKARIPURA? This clearly proves the fallacy in this explanation. Do not look beyond SHIKARIPURA to find answer for this. If they are serious about the real cause it do not need more examples and explanation.
It needs lot of honest introspection and open mind to accept things rather than finding limb excuses. It is surprising that nobody in "High Command" has accepted responsibilities for five defeats in assembly polls so far. This does not look like honest and objective introspection.
....
Psuedo secularism everywhere
The educated class of India, which hardly cares to vote, is deeply aware and pessimistic about the heavy dose of psuedo-secularism on the platter of politics or the media. The uneducated/illiterate impoverished voter class has been getting fooled since generations.
I am not sure if BJP or NDA will form the next Government at Center. Not sure if it will win the elections in Madhya Pradesh and elsewhere.
One thing I am positive about is that the BJP will make more and more inroads in more and more states/cities/constituencies as the dose of psuedo-secularism gets heavier. It might take decades, it might be post-Advani and post-Modi era.
Political fights will always exist. But over the last decade or so, the electorate has given one signal that the psuedo-secularits need to get alarmed about. Dont push us into a corner.
Media too needs to be shed its psuedo-secularism. Badly. ....
ANY WAY : PROVIDE GOOD GOVERNANCE
The much awaited Karnataka Assembly election result has provided a great relief to all. It is heartening to see that the majority of voters have preferred a stable Government as against the pollsters / political pundits prediction of a hung Assembly. In my opinion poll study in April (Karnataka Blogs published in your esteemed blog), I had said that the polling may not cross 68% and predicted comparatively more popular votes to Congress concluding that "Both the Congress and BJP will have a close fight and the party which greases the election strategy wheel with good backward and forward linkages with voters and the central leadership respectively, will emerge as the topper on the day". It has been proved that, any opinion poll, that is made with good 'reality check' in the field can clearly predict the outcome.
Evidentally, BJP with a vote share of 33.9% could get 110 seats....
Congress (UPA) and its Agenda
Congress and UPA has 3 point Agenda:
1. Appeasement: Appease farmers, they are the biggest vote bank (Farm Loan Waiver).
2. Appeasement: Appease Backward Caste, they are the second biggest vote bank (Try to woo them by giving reservation in higher studies).
3. Appeasement: Appease minority and small sub-groups they are next in line to vote (For example, POTA was revoked to please muslim community, However, Muslims are facing the same terrorism that anybody else is facing the country).
Does UPA government ever bothers to think about any real development activities. Congress Ruled the nation for 50 years, why they haven't come up with idea/effort of Golden Quadrilateral (GQ). The mere presence of Golden Quadrilateral has given a big boost to the economy. The whole nation can feel the difference.
In short UPA government has forgotten about the development activies. And they just want to blame the Caste/Religion politics for BJPs success.
There is no political....
india suffering
sir
india is suffering in the hands of unprincipled politicians is a known fact .but none could do a dent in the system . i would fully appreciate one entity has evolved by natural process once the media graduated to electronic media after the development of technology .how far this also will try to do some good to the nation is a big question as the upa was looking at a legistation to control the media , which has not happened .if you look at another mistake is by simply destroying farm lands in the name of sez in villages , which is nothing but destroying agriculture and promoting real estate unscruplously , and the result is price rise and non avalability of food grains .our able finance minister is still unaware where the tax evasion is taking place, even a matrticulate will say its the real estate lobby and....
Back with a Bang!
It looks like BJP is getting it's act together to rule at the centre again. This was just a trailer in Karnataka. The whole movie is yet to be unveiled. Kudos to all the BJP workers involved. Well... I think the main mistake Congress made was - not focusing on the smaller details involved in campaigning and the election process which are very valuable though they are minute-finer details and involving centre politicians more than the actual state politicians in the whole process. If the Congress want to make a difference in the coming elections in other places, they'll have to change their strategy and learn from the mistakes made this time. It's better late than never though! ....
Victory for BJP is good for Karnataka
One of the significant election of 2008 with which BJP is most likely to make its own government in South India. With Congress ruling the state for several decades with no development programs for the state and then JD(S) which never looked like had any programs to improve the state, Karnataka badly needed a single party to rule the state for complete 5 years and BJP with new opportunity in hand should try give good governance along with corruption free programs.
With all news Channels predicting Hung assembly, as no one knew ground reality, BJP has done exceptionally well. Its the time for Gowda's to think about their paths so far which included cheating BJP which helped them make a government.
All citizens for Karnataka hope that we get good governance for the next 5 years which state will cherish for years.
....
No Shortcuts for national parties
Both Congress and BJP should learn from the result. You cant win elections just on family charisma or a specfic slogan.Any attempts to appease a specfic section of the society will only harm national parties as it would alientate the voters of other sections.Reservation politics will only benefit caste based parties. For national parties only action counts.if you fail to fullfil the promises you will be ejected out of power. This will be substantiated by the election results of the state elections later this year.Lets hope people of karnataka gets a good government which realy governs the state instead of relying gimmicks to enhance votebanks.
Congress should refrain from any policies to become an All India Samajwadi Party if it reaaly needs to win 2009 LS.It should do some proactive actions to overcome the image of a weak government like not yeilding to left pressures on nuke deal, curbing of terrorism effectively etc. ....
A Vote For Change
Finally the Silicon City Of India decided who should lead the state. It has been a remarkable change in voting pattern which opted for change. The change finally a stable single party government. This has a led to an optimism among the people that the government is accountable and would provide Bangalore with the necessary infrastructure to create an atmosphere of growth. Bangalore has been long neglected and driving away business with unfriendly investment destination for the past couple of years.
Now the challenge has just begun people expectations are quite high and the government needs to make the right choice involve more private partnership and also involve local bodies for ensuring that the promises are being met, by doing this BJP will prove that this victory was not by fluke they can make inroads into other southern cities.
The IT industry is looking for some breather from pothole roads, nightmare....
Disgraceful...In Victory and Defeat
Ha Ha Ha...So finally who has the left laugh??Any guesses??No price though for the correct guess. Its BJP of course!!! After being thrown out of power in 7 days in what could be the first BJP government in South India, Deve Gowda was back at what he did best, topple Governments!! But this time around, tough luck Brother..(Grandpa actually..) Mr. Gowda was responsible for creating the political vaccum last time around and create confusion in an already confused environment in Karnataka. The growth of the state has retarted in the last 5 yrs were mainly due to what he called his "achievements". All the good work that Krishna's government had done was nullified by a father and a son claiming to be Messiah's of the poor people. The list also includes Dharam Singh who just sat and did nothing great other than innaugarating flyovers, milestone projects and other good infrastructure....
Costly error by congress high command
Kharge and the senior leaders effectively convinced the congress high Command to relegate S M Krishna to the back seat. Not only that, denying him a seat to contest, Krishna became the proverbial 'DHOBI KAA KUTTA', He had left the Maharashtra gubernatorial position in dream of a big post in Karnataka, and here he had to content with the likes of Kharge, Siddaramiah and Dharam Singh.
If Krishna had contested, Congress had everything to gain! ....
Congress: the myth of relevance
The Indian National Congress, one of the oldest parties in the country now must find itself wondering what the relevance of the party is.
With issues like development and Governance on the backburner, it has sought to reinvent itself as a party that caters to the minorities and the weaker sections of the country. Today, that myth has been shattered with the BJP almost matching it in the SC and ST segment. The regional parties like the SP, BSP, RJD, DMK etc have also moved in on their muslim votebank. The greatest revelation to the congress in this string of defeats must be the fact that it no longer can lay claim to representing any section of the pluralistic Indian Society.
An analysis of the other parties bears merit here.
The BJP has its strength in the Hindu Vote Bank. Indeed, it is the only party that has sided with the Hindus on....
To the Chief Minister Designate
Congratulations for winning 110 seats to the assembly and now beoming the chief minister, sir.
I hope there is a long term plan for your party to ensure that all citizens are treated equally and there is no bias for the majority against the minorities- the NDA worked well at the centre, as the radicals were kept on the fringes by the various parties in the coalition.
But coalition politics does not work well as you yourself saw last year with the JD(S, so rise above it if the BJP is to be the alternative to the Congress
(no corruption, no partiality to fringe groups, no ill treatment of minorities, stamp out radicalism and make Karnataka a state that other states can look up to as an example).
Appoint a cabinet with men of calibre rather than those with known or alleged criminal records; invite professionals to assist you in your administration; do not....
Well done Karnataka
For the first time in some time, people have voted more sensibly keeping a stable government in mind. That brings an end to opportunistic politics by JD(S). We expect BJP to work towards real problem of whole karnataka and be in power forever. Well done BJP, now its time to prove yourself. I am sure party will work towards making karnataka a better place to live. Thnks to all the people of karnataka who avoided JDS from being a king maker. ....
Karnataka Elections 08
BJP is in with a chance to form a govt in south india for the first time. Think folloowing are the imp points to be in the immediate agenda of new Govt.
1. Eliminate naxal & terrorist activities.
2. Give boost to agriculture.
3. Give priority to development of smaller cities like Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli etc.
4. Allot more fund to sports related infrastructure development.
5. Last but not the least larger funds required for providing basic educations for all citizens. ....
shameless jds
hi
being a responsible citizen i would like to react to what jds sources have said..... they say that they will form the govt if cong support them... dont you think they are behaving unmaturedly..... they are so shameless that having just 28 votes they want to form the govt... we the people of karnataka have given our verdict.... we all want a stable good and a progressive govt..... not a govt which will not look beyond their own benefits...... we want to have freedom from corruption.... we want to travel through our city fearlessly..... and above all we want bengaluru to be the silicon city forever....
our verdict is clear we want single party rule. I hope BJP faces no problem from any others to form the govt so that now we can concentrate on development, building infrastructure, etc

Hope from Congress
I feel that the congress should behave like a responsible opposition. From the reports comming from the JDS, they are willing to form the government.
Congres just dont do that blunder as Gowdas are well know for Backstabbing. After 10-15 months they will show the true colours.
What the congress will do if the JDS removes support after 10-15 months.
People are matured enough now. Just dont take the support of the shameless JDS. ....
A Vote Urging for Progress!
The last four years have taken a huge toll on the progress of Karnataka and if the results are to go by, it would stand as a desperate cry and a vote for progress that came to a real grinding halt in this period due to non-functioning Governments.During these four years, Karnataka found intself sandwitched between Andhra Pradesh, which took agriculture as a route to progress and an agressive Tamilnadu, which went all out in attracting investments.
Karnataka's problems are not just limited to lack of growth but extended to a lack of political dis-orientation towards progress. Politicians who talked of progress through development of infrastructure and Information technology were considered sinners, and at one point of time, taking on IT Czars was considered as a measure of effective Populism to garner votes. In the same period, the first family of Karnataka, so to say the made the State as....
2 Party or not to party
Time has come to realise that in India democracy should not be held hostage to n- number of political parties, which exists only to disrupt any process.
Karnataka has shown the way that what could be the consequences if the thread are stretched too far. JD supremos, The Gowda's, not only played among themselves at the cost of the taxpayers money at the same time they held the whole state hostage to their family drama.
They didn't led BJP run the government and involved in infightings all through the thier rein.Who would forget the drama when Kumaraswamy tored JD apart and erstwhile Prime Minister if India was giving interviews to the Media Channels begging his son to come back and then he supported him like never before which gave enough proof that all that happened was his mastermind.
Nevertheless, now we have Single party, The BJP who will rule the state and they....
16th loss for Congress since 2004
The defeat in Karnataka is the Congress party's 16th loss in the four years that it returned to power at the Centre. India has seen 24 assembly elections since 2004, including four states that went to the polls along with that year's general election.
The Congress party has won eight of those elections and lost 16.
Three of its victories came in the year of the general election. Of the five remaining wins, three -- Pondicherry, Manipur and Goa [Images] -- are small states. The only big electoral gains for the Congress since 2005 are in Haryana and Assam.
Its record gets worse as the years pass. It was 3-3 in 2004; 1-2 in 2005; 2-2 in 2006; 2-4 in 2007 and 0-4 in 2008 so far. With three large states -- Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, all ruled by the BJP -- going to the polls later this year....
Karnataka Polls - Leason's learnt
JD(S): You can fool some people for some time; all people for some time; not all people all the time.
Cong: Every dog has its day.
BJP: Maiden innings. Yet to learn. ....
Karnataka Elections 2008
People in almost every part of Karnataka voted for the BJP. We have to see now if the saffron party is going to deliver since the party has now been given a chance to form a government. I am usually a Congress supporter but I have zero sympathy for SM Krishna and his party colleagues. The Congress party did not have an effective election campaign, neither did they project a leader as a chief ministerial candidate from the dozens of "leaders" they so called have. If the Congress party needs to introspect and revitalize their organization, then heads need to roll. They need to infuse the younger generation into their fold. It now time to see new, dynamic politicians rather than old, tired looking bureaucrats like Dharam Singh. ....
'Cong'rats for BJP, but wait....
It may seem almost win to BJP in the state. But remember its 2-3 seats short to cross the half number + 1(i.e,113). Dont get relaxed by achieving consecutive victories, that you are going to get easily or with some what with less effort in fothcoming elections(includes general elections). Do give your attention to the local/ground issues of each different region as it varies region to region. Think that as the roads in India has potholes generally your party too has potholes and it get increases after the incident like Jaipur serial blasts in Rajasthan and the state election is also ahead and state of other States. . . ?
So you are being a Tom cat and Congress and others being the Jerry rat for the moment dont know when your cheese in near future.
So, Tom and Jerries you begged your owner's vote but if dont serve or guard properly....
Karnataka Elections - The Big Picture.
Hi,
This is ravi, have some basic questions to Rajdeep.
- Which ever party forms the govt , it simply doesn't matter, since all of them are corrupt, so the net result is Big Zero.
- Corruption never dies, bribing never ends. Poor People will be poor as usual. What is the use of having an election and making someone as CM.
- People talk about development, booming economy, and hundred thousand things, who is doing the actual survey of the poor people ,what kind of action is taken against these.
- Politics in India is like a disease, it had affected all , direct way or the indirect way.
- Your channel has so much of revenue, have you ever thought of donating some part of your income to the poor people who doesnt have the basic facilities.
- You have some many people coming for interviews, have you ever asked them....
CONGRESS IN SHAMBLES
THE GRAND OLD PARTY THE CONGRESS WHO GOT INDIA INDEPENDENCE AND HAS BEEN THE RULING PARTY FOR MOST OF THE DECADES SINCE INDEPENDENCE IS TOTTERING. N KARNATKA HAS MARGINALLY IMPROVED OVER ITS PERFORMANCE OF 2004.ON TAE CONTRARY THE BJP THE INDIA'S EXTREME RIGHTIST PARTY HAS FOR THE FIRST TIME IS GOING TO FORM THE GOVERNMENT IN KARNATKA ON ITS OWN STRENGTH. PERHAPS IT IS ITS FIRST RESOUCNDING VICTORY IN A SOUTAHERN STATE. THE REASON FOR BJP'S VICTORY COULD BE DUE TO ITS DISCIPLINED CADRE CAMPAIGNING AND THE BETRAYAL OF KUMARASWAMY AND THE JANTA DAL SECULAR. ANOTHER REASON IS THE VOTER IN KARNATKA HAVE BEEN FED UP WITH THE IN FIGHTS OF THE COALITION GOVERNMENTS IN THE STATE RESULTING IN TARDY DEVELOPMENT. PEOPLE OFKARNATKA ARE TO BE CONGRATULATED FOR A CLEAR VERDICT IN FAVOUR OF BJP. THEY HAAVE BEEN FED UP WITH COALITION AND ELECTIONS EVERY NOW AND THEN. NOW IT....
Slit, split and wipe out JD(S)
I am extremely happy to see the Polls results in karnataka with one single party comming up with Majority.
However, since BJP still needs some more candidates to gain absolute majority and some buffer as well, this is the best opportunity to SLIT, SPLIT and completely WIPE OUT JD(S) so that the JD(S) can never come to power ever again in Karnataka... BJP has a golden opportunity to take revenge of the Betrayal they received...
By spliting JD(S), Deve Gowda who has ruined karnataka polities can be complete wiped off the political scene in karnataka.
Also, BJP manifesto for next 5 years should be -
1. To comcentrate more on imprving and developing the tier-II cities of karnataka like Hubli, Dharwad, Bellary, Managalore, Hassan and Mysore with both IT Companies an Agricultural development. If IT companies are spread across state then pressure on bangalore will reduce and the infrastructure problems of....
Its a punishment for congress
If you look back into past 4 years of governance in Karnataka, for the first half Congress ruled with the support of JDS. Then JDS pulled the rug undreneath Congress and themselves came to power with the help of BJP. So, every one of these parties is guilty of dirty politics. But if you look at the governance part of it, the second half, where JDS and BJP were in power was excellent. A lot of development work got done during that time. Devegowda didn't come out often to disturb us either. The first part was a nightmare. Dharam Singh would consult Gowda for everything and Gowda would object to everything. So, it was as though there was no government.
In this election, Urban people like us had a lot of say. If SM Krishna was projected to be the Chief Minister candidate, congress would have gained my vote and many....
Karnataka Vs Tamilnadu - Post election scenario
This election victory for BJP is set to change the equations between the two neighboring states. With certain outstanding issues such as Kaveri water dispute, it is to be seen what happens next. Sonia and Karuna had reserved these issues for the elections
In addition to these issues, this victory can have ramifications in TN politics too. The spirit of success will encourage BJP to improve its presence in TN, which has always been elusive for them. With no known BJP leader in TN it is likely to tie-up with one of the regional parties. With Advani in control, a tie-up with AIADMK is quite remote. DMK will keep its options open given the continuing poor performance of congress in state elections. BJP may not be averse to DMK as it had a decent treatment from them in the past during Vajpayee government. Vijayakant and Dayanidhi Maran are other options though....
What do I celebrate more?
Sitting down here in Adelaide glued to CNN IBN watching things unfold in Karnataka, I am not sure what to celebrate more, the demise of party made of unscrupulous elements (Gowda and his ilk) or the blooming of the lotus! Any which way, it is celebration time!
I am heaving a big sigh of relief that the clever people of Karnataka have voted assiduously with a great sense of conviction resulting in a clear, non-fractured mandate. Glad too that Gowda's dreams of playing so-called King maker have gone asunder with the "maNNina magaa" biting the dust.
For BJP, its now time to roll up the sleeves and start building a solid foundation for a long innings down under (I mean South India, not Australia ;-) Only hard work and real results matter in the long run, so I hope BJP does not wither away this golden opportunity to prove its a party....
lesson for JDS & Congress
The election verdict in Karnataka in favour of BJP is a chance victory for the BJP.
The people of Karnataka were tired of seeing the non-performance of the Congress Govts either singly or in coalition, for the last so many years. As per the verdict of 2004 verdict the JDS and Congress enjoyed power and the party which got the maximum seats were denied power by employing dirty tactics directly by the JDS and indirectly by the congress. Due to the dirty politics of Gowda & co., and the silent attempt of congress to benefit from it, the electorate of Karnataka, on ground or other, had no option left except giving a chance to the BJP, and teach a lesson to both the conggress and the JDS. All other factors National, Cast, price rise etc., are incidental.
Congressmen of Karnataka have lost the zeal to rule. Many of them....
Karnataka Votes
People of Karnataka have tried their best within the dynamics & frame work of our democratic electoral process, to identify a party that can govern them for the next 5 years & in my view the single largest pre poll combine must be called to form the government ( not just for now, but always ).That in a way will be the true reflection of peoples mandate, this act of post poll alliance undertaken by political parties ( under any pretext )should never be encouraged, for, it will in effect be a kind of cheating & insulting the feelings & intelligence of the voters. Also some sort of constitution amendment must be brought in to prevent this democratic crime if one has to have a progressive Indian democratic state.
Also In a true democracy, politician's must learn to see value & honor of sitting in the opposition benches while accepting....
Victorious BJP and the Cauvery Connection
With the BJP sweeping the elections, the focus shifts on the cauvery issue.
The two major queries will be:
1. How will the new BJP lead government address the cauvery issue?
2. How will the DMK and Congress handle the issue with the Lok sabha elections coming forward?

Victory to Economic Prosperity
Hello Rajdeep,
Bangalore growth has for the past five years been despite the instability in the government. Bangalore has had a tremendous influence on all of Karnataka's growth primarily through significant trickle-down economics.
The people of Karnataka were fed up with the staggering impediment Deve Gowda and his cronies were to the ecnomic surge of Karnataka (them with the Congress or the BJP). The Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor was also put on the back-burner due to the JD (S) leadership.
Remember, Karnataka is the fourth most economically prosperous state in the country. People wanted a strong stable government irrespective of who comes to power, they always want the economic growth to continue. Karnataka is unlike Northern States of India where cast plays a role on the outcome of elections.
The BJP looked most likely to provide a good stable government as they had clearly projected their leader in Mr.Yediyurappa.
The Congress had only one....
No where to go...
We are natives of Karnataka and we are watching the election countdown live from Edison, New jersey and this is more interesting than the US elections.
We wish that Devegowda does not get a change to form a coilition government. He is soo selfish and has no ethics, morality or integritiy and does not care about upliftment of karnataka or Progress of our state.
We want either Cong or BJP to get full majority. Goodluck Karnataka.
Here it is Obama vs Mccain and there it is Dharam Singh and deve Gowda. There is no place where NRIs like us can feel there are good visionary leaders. ....
Credibility of Governance & Nationalism
The economic backdrop coupled with leadership challenges have clearly made congress rhetoric about "secularism" irrelevant. The people want performance and nationalism . Caste appeasement , minority appeasement and support to destruction of citadels of faith ( Ram Sethu) have clearly lead to their downfall. They should realize that the problem is much larger than they think it is. They have to relook at their alliance strategy, on one side is the argument for 'More alliances" to play the arithmetic card - a la Tamilnadu. On the other side they will have to carry the baggage of the partner . The impact of Ram Sethu in all states north of Tamilnadu is the baggage of the Chennai effect.
Focus on quality governance and shedding of the baggage is the only way they can make any impact in 2009. For the moment , they would gain significant moral ground by saluting BJP....
bjp should and it must win in karnataka
Seeing the political drama for last 4years we have seen how congrees has kept fake promises and made people fool around that they will ensure developements in other part of the state and jdu has shown that it's not a trust worthy party anymore but it's only BJP that people feel that they will develop the karntaka and it will b first time in history of south india where bjp would come and it should i wish and pray victory for bjp,
also i hope that "BELGAUM" WOULD BE THE SECOND CAPITAL of karnataka in presence of bjp govt tooo,i wish even rest of jdu leaders join bjp tooo
so i prefer BJP should win it's clear even at centre too bjp should win.
"strong BJP,strong INDIA" ....
Real reason for Karnataka mandate
Being a kannadiga myself, I see the following as the real reason for Congress's defeat.
*) Congress did not point out anyone as their leader. So who are we(citizens) voting for anyways? Certainly not for the party so that after a week he/she just implements high commands order and not do anything on their own. We don't want leaders who chant high command mantra, we want leaders who make high command chant their mantra, like Narendra Modi.
*) Every urban voter that I know of,was chanting only one mantra. "Vote for anyone but JDS". We dont want to hear father-son crap anymore. It's our(citizens) state.
*) Moditva: There has been no development in Karnataka from past 5 years. Advani pleaded for 1 chance, 1 clear mandate. It made sense to us. Modi has proved his fleet with development in Gujrat thrashing all the media projections. We want to see it happen in....
USELESS DEBATE
"BJP has won, Congress has lost." "No, analyse, think over and see Congrees has improved, BJP has declined." Discussions like this are endless, shameless and useless. All these are at the cost of the viewer whether s/he tunes in or tunes out. After all, all programmes are sponsored by some business house or other who collectes the money spent for the purpose from the viewer who is a consumer.
Similar is the recent thing called opinion poll. 'Sephology' is the honorific term to sell it.
Media that is on air round the clock must find things, which are informing, enlightening and sometimes entertaining, not confusing, not empassionating the viewer.
Media must be undogmatic, non-committal and dispassionate. Why should they brand BJP as 'saffron', not simply call BJP, why not seek to know the agenda that they pronounce, why discover in one's own way their 'hidden agenda'?

BJP all the way
BJP can now, finally, form the govt on its own. Its a great relief that the Gowdas are out of the race and they can't hold the state to ransom anymore. The result has clearly indicated that the once Congress stronghold state has moved on and has EMBRACED BJP wholeheartedly.
The Congress politics has always been about personality (read the Gandhis) and they have nothing more to offer now from their kitty. On the ther hand, BJP with its policies has shown that it is the party of the future.
I sincerely hope that BJP maintains this momentum and win the General Elections 2009 as well 'coz its high time the country, now, should get rid of the anti-poor, anti-middle class UPA govt which has compromised with the country's security as well (e.g. by putting on hold the hanging of Afzal and then comparing his case with that of Sarabjit Singh) and....
Reasons behind the result
There were some clear reasons that influenced the voters mind since the elections were announced:
1. Lack of self confidence in the party cadres of JD(S) and some of its remaining leaders quit looking for greener postures. The monarchic behaviour of Deve Gowda. People were sick of sis tricks sans principles.
2. Lack of projection of a single credible leader in the Congress Party. That lead to lack of focus and co-ordination in inspiring the grass root levels of the party.
3. The above two issues made a shift of voter base from both Congress and JD(S). BJPs committed votes stood by them.
....
Congress responses typical
Congress response to the verdict in Karnataka is typical. One, they try to keep Sonia/Rahul completely out of it, in terms of personalities. Two, in terms of issues, they are not indicating that they will review their policy of support to terrorism due to their communal policies, nor are they indicating that they will take concrete steps to reduce prices, like reducing the duty rate on crude oil imports, etc. Terrorism and Price rise are the two major factors against Congress in the minds of Indians, including patriortic Indians abroad ....
Karnata, re-loaded !
I always thought people of karnataka were wise & would not take any kind of betrayal sitting down.
Karanataka has saved its pride. This is people's mandate for the betrayal of "people's mandate" in the past 4 years by CONGRESS + JDS.
My state has not let me down. I'm a proud citizen today.
Huttidare kannda nadal huttabeku... mettidare.... !!

Happy for Karnataka
I am happy that at least this time there would a single ruling political party in the state. I hope they keep up to their promises (I certainly am not sure what they are but, there is a single party majority)and sincerely work towards the betterment of the state as a whole and not Bengaluru alone. ....
JD(S) still managed because of less voter turnover
It is really surprising that JD(S) still manage to get 33 (leaad+results). I still don't understand how come people can vote for JD(S) kind of party who only did opportunistic politics. 33 still a number too high as compared to their expectation of 40-50. I think B'loreans and remaining of us Indians should come forward and participate in political activities, specially in voting. Voting is first step and then active politics will follow. This is the only way to bring change.

BJP - On move
Congratulations yedurappa, We given a right chance to your party this time, take it in right way. Do not take as granted & advantage by mis administration in Karnataka. This time voters given a right decision to BJP. ....
Winner of Karnataka
From the Kartanataka election outcome it is pretty clear that the Congress has failed, and BJP is successfully retain its more seats compare to last election, Only one right person from congress is SM Krishna and there are 2 culprits are Dharm Singh and Kharge these ministers are insects in congress party, because of this congress party lost in this poll, and the same to Gowda family
Good to BJP
....
Let us give a BJP one chance
JD(S) has lost miserably, they betrayed BJP, this is a big lesson for the parties to follow minimum ethics. It is good that people voted BJP and giving almost half of the seats, so that they can form the govt. on their own. Let us hope, BJP will do the good for Bangalore (esp. better Roads, Metro rail) and other parts of Karnataka (water, electricity, tourism).

Enough is Enough
Hello Political Leaders,
This is Shivaraj Soushetty a True Kannadiga (Hyderabad Karnataka), ver unfortunate I could not vote this time as I am in California, US.
Please try to look into the root cause of issues from now.
You could now understand that Indians are no more selling their Vote for Color TV, Rice for Rs. 2/ KG or a free Site in B'lore.
Given the good governance we can make everything on our own. That is India after 60 Years. So, please be with Indians and not behind Indians.
Thanks and Rgards

BJP Victory
Its a very clear mandate for the BJP. The last thing that we want is another hung assembly which will give room for all the dirty games of politics.
Really one can't believe how Congress change their word by telling that they can look into forming an alliance with JD(S), who are the pioneers of all forms of dirty politics. So desparate to come to power even though the people don't want.
We must note that BJP did not use HINDUTVA this time. Their issues were very clear & solutions for them in their manifesto are also clear. And we are not fools to say just because BJP have never got a chance, let's give it to them. Atleast we as people are responsible enough & not take such foolsh chances of picking somebody from a lot. It's not permutation & combination but it's result & progress that we want, which....
Voted for change
Finally the BJP has got the power in Karnataka.
This time people have voted for change and hopefully the BJP is able to bring that change.
It is clear that people wanted to give a chance to BJP. Of course, the sympathy and the price rise factor/s have also played a vital role in the victory of saffron in Karnataka.
BJP has won only due to their team work and Congress has lost only due to their internal conflicts. Well seats of JD(S) has fallen due to their on Karma.
Anyway All the Best for BJP! ....
Karnataka and India: Good days ahead
This is a common preception that the oldest party of India is doing every thing to woo the muslim voters. They clearly understands that the they can take on other section of the society based on the caste basis. Therefore, claiming that it is BJP who is disintegrating the society is completely worng. They have been playing the secular cards to get the Muslim vote but the fate is very much clear now. When our honorable home minister equated Sabarjit Singh with Afzal Guru, the Congress has taken the entire democracy into ransom and not a single clarification has come from the ruling party at the center. I firmly believe that the voters in Karnataka has given the right answer to this question and the people of this country shall continue to do this in the next general elections. My humble advise to the Congress to revisit the minority apeasement....
KARNATAKA FIGHT
Though the BJP has won Karnatka, the election cannot be seen as a referendum on the UPA. Its a fact that Congress lost more of it votes to JD(S). All the more because the Congress too gained by 10-15 seats.
Thereal test will be the elections to Delhi, MP, rajasthan & Chattisgarh. Till now except for Gujarat, the incumbent governments were thrown out. Its the first crucial test for BJP. If it retains these states then the UPA is in sure shot trouble.
The issues on which the elctions was fought were negative. No party can solve the inflation issue with a majic wand. Being out of India, I know its prevalent everywhere. We oursleves are facing tremendous price rises since the past couple of months. With oil hitting $ 135 a barrel there is little what a govt can do. And if people believe that BJP can fight inflation, I can....
Hail the MANDATE!!!!!!!!!
It gives me immense pleasure to see one single largest party claiming the numbers to form the goverment, thanks to the precise judgementof the people.BJP had not been tried in the past and I feel that time had come for us to change our perceptions about the party.
To enhance our reputation as a progressive state, this election result has taught us to vote in for one single party and put them on the competitive lines with other parties to show results and satisfy expectations of the people.
CHEERS!!!!!!!!!! ....
Saffron rising
As you sow, so you reap - cliched but true for JD(S). The party has paid of its immoral values, for cheating the BJP in the 20-20 coalition arena. The BJP deserves this much needed victory. Its cadres have met with a lot of injustice in the past months. However as Vajpayee, said victory is just the first step and the real test is how you work for the welfare of the state for the next 5 years. The BJP, mainly a north india centric party, has got a golden opportunity to spread its wings in southern part of the country. It should use this opportunity to catapult itself on the national arena. The party first priorities should be improve the agriculture scenerio, infrastructure and ofcourse try to get the hogenekkal issue in karnataka's favour. ....
Politicians Attitude
which ever party comes to power, will their attitude towards TamilNAdu change? It has been deliberately harnessed for decades together in the minds of few emotional people & being used has a vote bank strategy .Sometimes Karnataka acts like a separate country not even respecting tne Supreme Court.
Will there be an end to this issue being used by politicians the so called jobless protectors of state issues& the media, year after year & for decades together ?
God only knows what the intellectual& progressive thinkers do when such issues crop up year after year. ....
BELLWEATHER FOR CONGRESS
IT IS BRAZEN SHAMELESSNESS ON PART OF CONGRESS LEADERS TO BLAME BJP OF CASTE POLITICS IN KARNATAKA.
WHAT HAS BEEN ARJUN SINGH DOING SINCE 2004? CHAMPIONING OBC & MINORITY CASTE POLITICS.
IT IS A MOMENT OF RELIEF FOR MARGINALISED & DEPRIVED SECTIONS OF UPPER CASTES TO SEE CONGRESS THRASHED IN ELECTIONS AFTER ELECTIONS.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT UPPER CASTES UNITE AND MOBILISE SUPPORT FOR ONLY THOSE POLITICAL PARTIES THAT TAKE THEIR INTERESTS (ESPECIALLY ECONOMICALLY WEAKER SECTIONS AMONG THEM) IN SERIOUS CONSIDERATION.

karnataka Election
i am reading some of the blogs who are writing form many part of the globe, while people do not know what is happening at local level.
i must say what i have seen in the local at many part of the state the BJP is been doing is bit distrubing me and I only hope that the BJP will not distrub the peace of the people in the name of religion and it will respect every one as human being and if that did not happen i must say we need to again blaim much for Gowda and Cong for not working together to fight against this party. lets only hope that BJP will keep the spirt of human being as one not in the name of religion.

Congratulations For all Kannadigas.
Hi!
I am a young doctor living in Los Angeles,California & I am keenly following this election.
People of Karnataka needs a stable Government for a better Economy,Healthcare,Education,Agriculture,Infrastruture & Internal Security.
Now lets request all parties to put their differences & work together for the progress of Karnataka for bringing a change & making Karnataka a state to reckon with globally.
I wish my fellow Kanndigas the very best & for giving a clear mandate for a single party to Govern for the progress of our great state.
Jai Hind and Jai Karnataka.

Congrats BJP :) ... Better luck next time Congress
First of all, Let me tell you that this result won't effect 2009 General elections; by seeing the figures we can tell that Congress improved when compared to previous polls in Karnataka.
Congress should work hard for the coming General elections 2009; if they concentrate in the north Karnataka region for the next one year then surely they can the majority in the coming 2009 General elections.
Cheers,
Spandan Manthena.

Good Days for India
I am 25 yr old and well educated. It clearly appears for any rational mind that BJP is by far a better administrative and unifying party. On the other congress is a timid, dividing and incapable party. If one has to go by the fact that rational minds make better decisions, as the literacy rate of India is growing BJP is getting stronger. This trend is irreversible. The golden era of the country is starting. As the country is becoming literate the country is moving in to safe hands.
The only draw back was Gujarat riots and communal. But the riots are response for some thing previous. And the communal thing is because of two things. One the forcible conversions of Christian missionaries. I know people getting money for conversions and the other reason is another community for obvious reasons. Anyways I am always against all these politics.
Next is the performance....
full circle
politics has indeed come to full circle in ktk, what is heartning is to see that there seems to be majority to a single party & not an alliance, so there wont be marraiges kind of thing on politics and one party will look forward to implement atleast whatever it has strtaed out to do. in todays educated times, its not easy to take electorates for granted & everybody needs to have strong manifesto..whatever be the means but BJP is on the verge of looking forward to a stable government atleast this time around after the bitter experience of coalition ploitics in kanataka..hope a stable government will bringing some all round development which had desrted ktk 5 yrs back.the farm sector should take priority as it is livelihood for major % of opulation.then IT,industry & infrastrutre.one thing BJP should steer clear of is communal politics but hope they have their....
GUV should not allow for coalition Government.
Guv should not allow any party to form coalition, and invite the party which has got more number of seats to form the government, as these coalitions are made by the parties for their own benefits and not for the country, And if it is allowed, there is no respect for 'by the people' rule, and no respect for democracy, as their decision will be ruled off by most of the greedy politicians.
....
You cannot take people for granted ....
Today it is really shown how the people cannot be taken for a ride in a Democratic govt. The immature politics played by a single family in just aligning with different political parties without having a clear ethic or agenda..has really had a clear blow on the decline in JD(s) wins and also the congress which really did not live up to its historic image ..I personally believe that this result has shown that Karnataka cannot be simply ruled by Caste politics but more driven by issue addressing and Leadership show.... ....
BJP have the peoples verdict, its now for BJP to prove their Governancy
BJP have their wishes come true, now its time for them to provide their Governancy by making Karnataka recover from past political termoil that would have effected the states progress

Good wishes to BJP

Governor Should invite BJP to Form Government
Its very clear that BJP has emerged as largest party close to the Half. If governor has any ethics, he has to invite BJP to form government, Center UPA governement will definitely try to play dirty politics along with shameless JD(S) leaders.
I wish more people had exercised their voting rights and voted for which ever party they want instead of blaming politics.
We don't need JDS to join hands with Congress and destroy Karnataka state. Both Congress and JDS have no moral right to form a government. Congress had tons of hidden cunning Chief Ministerial Candidates with poor high command shameless and blindly rallying behind with Sonia Gandhi.
JDS should is not a party at all, they are fooling people and playing Caste politics. I am vokkaliga but still I don't support caste politics.
Wish I could Vote for BJP. I wish all the best for BJP....
Declining congress
This is the high time that congress should take common man problems seriously instead of there so called secularism plank in every election.Instead of criticizing BJP they should set right there house first.
And congratulation to BJP for this remarkable victory, which is another step to win the general election next year. ....
Yediyurappa,no more 3 day CM but for 5 years !!!!!
Since the beginning of Election Campaign in Karnataka.., Yediyurappa was very clear that no matter whether his party secure majority or not but preferred to sit in a opposition.... can give voice for peoples of Karnataka.I think this was very good stand by Yediyurappa as it shows that he was no more to form alliance with any other party after post poll.... Hope this might have impressed majority of peoples of karnataka... he is almost nearing his majority.... so there is no doubt that he will be CM for next 5 years to come !!!!
....
Answer to Backstabbing
BJP has made some inroads at cost of JDS for sure. What has helped them is also the clear projection of CM candidate. I hope the BJP party gets to create its government and work towards improving infrastructure and farming issues.
As is clear - Doling out free goodies unlike in other states is not an intelligent way to campaing in Karnataka.....
....
BJP given a chance
The BJP has been given a chance as it has never ruled Karnataka before, just like Vajpayee was given a chance at the centre in 1998. However, just like the people of India dumped the BJP in 2004, the same may happen in Karnataka as the BJP campaigns talking about bijli, sadak, paani but once in power it only talks about hindutva, cow slaughter and other communal issues. The people of India have no apetite for communalism. As far as Lok Sabha polls next year are conerned, the BJP has already said that Advani will be PM if they win. Do you think a young India is so foolish to vote for an 82 year old man who has no futuristic agenda for India to develop? ....
Concede they did a better job
I am a Congress voter. But on the day I went to vote in Bangalore, I knew BJP would win. They were better organized. their cadre were around to help voters, They had even allocated cadre to manage different socio economic classes. The way they dealt with me, I almost voted BJP. All this while Congress could not even project SMK as their CM clearly. ....
'Farming community' - Success behind Karnataka win
Its very obvious from Karnataka elections that farming community is playing a key role in the elections. This trend has started from last elections in 2004 where in SM Krishna was rejected as he was projected as a anti-rural candidate. Congress identified a pro-farming community leader in Andhra pradesh and had an astounding success in 2004 but failed to replicate the same in Karnataka. There is no congress leader in Karnataka who is identified as a 'Rural face' which has been successflly filled up by Yediyurappa for BJP. As 'Farming community conditions' has been one of the priority issue in this elections, Congress has failed to instill confidence in this community as there was no pro-farming community leader. This would be the trend across the country in the upcoming winter elections too. Hope BJP will adress this issue and improve Karnataka's infrastructure as well. ....
Karnataka - Last Laugh
I just moved to Gulf however I was a part of the previous elections and was wondering what went wrong with people when they favored JD(s) in the previous elections. I was impressed with SM Krish's development programs which actually put Bangalore on the International Horizon.
Even now Im amazed at the innocence of the people of karnataka even as they are split apart by the Political parties.
BJP - having gathered a lot of sympathy votes may emerge as the single largest party as the previous mandate. However I'm not confident if they will be able to provide good governance.
Congress - Again has to shake hands with other parties unwillingly to form a Government which will get us back to the square one. However inner feeling is that nobody can provide a stable government except for Congress.
JD(s) - People have lost faith in JD(s) because of the dirty games they....
Testing times begin
For the last 4 years, the state was held ransom to just a few self-centred people, who inspite of claiming as "sons of soil" were anything but that!!! Enough with all the dirty business of divisive politics. Its only a sign of maturing democracy that people are now starting to vote for development plank rather than based on religion/caste/quota....
This said, its not an all go for BJP. I hope they are humble enough to realize that people have voted them into power for a reason - Because "we-the people" were fed up with everything that was going on in the last 4 years. We need you to address real problems!!!
Address, farmer's problems (loan waiver is not going to help - its not a long term solution),
The mining mafia can not go on destroying valuable forest land (this is like digging your own grave - EVERYBODY KNOWS IT, INCLUDING....
congress debacle
At least now congress should stop talking about seculer/non seculer votes. The main cause for loss is from middle class and upper middle class voters who are wise and not attracted by cheap gimmicks like free TV's etc.It is not even inflation as it is world wide phenonmena. The main cause is its apathy towards Karnataka in Railway budget like incompleted projects, incompleted golden quadralatral road and other national roads, non appointments for kannadigas in railway and other central govt institutions in Karnataka, injustice in inter-state water disputes. As long as Congress forgets Karnataka in these areas, eve if sonia and Rahul visits Karnataka 100 times it will get vote share. ....
The "Saffron Surge" in Karnataka
This indeed is a big day in the history of Karnataka and South India. The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) for the first time has seen the day that always waited for.... The people have voted for a new beginning in karnataka politics... The "Saffron Surge" has turned into a BJP victory and I see this happening in all parts of India.
I regret for not being in Mangalore and participating in these elections and eventually celebrating the BJP victory.
Thanks for everyone who voted for this victory.

BEST NEWS COVERAGE
the moment i woke up early in the morning i started following what was happening with the Karnataka Elections. It is quite remarkable to say that CNN-IBN is by far the most best channel to get in the depth analysis of the Karnataka elections-2008. I did tune onto NDTV 24X7, Aaj tak and lot others but due to the way the news was given by the CNN-IBN team/crew it is remarkable. Hats off! Especially to Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai and Yogendra Yadav for their statistics and analysis of the constituencies part by part. It was like performing a dissection of a human body! There was some factor that made me glued to the televison set for long time. Not even the likes of MR.Pranay roy and other stalwarts on the other hindi news channels could make a difference! I just remember the maggi tomato ketchup punchline here It's different!! thats what....
Election 2.0
Delimitation seems a major factor for performance of various parties this election. (far more impact than previous 4 delimitations).
I think political parties didn't do a good analysis of this in terms of finding a suitable candidate to increase there stake in winning seat. Gujarat elections proved development is mantra for winning elections not a single party learned from this. Parties sticked to freebies and never had focused plan. They never looked core issues of state. With Bangalore being emerged as knowledge hub, As a state Karnataka, has not benefited from that. Politicians just focus on cat fight.
Hope we will have a stable n good government which takes Karnataka into next generation.
....
People of Karnataka are practical and chance givers.
This outcome was very obvious, as the people of Karnataka like other states are not just power hunters or communal minded, they are the ones who need a stable and powerful government. The Congress in prior to 2004 elections was always towards growth and hence people had supported it for long, but once the people noticed the party was weak from its internal matters and sidelined a able leader Mr. Krishna, they had no chance rather than applying for a change. Then they gave a chance to the Gowdas but they took us for granted with running with family politics instead of governing politics. "Now we have given a chance to the BJP lets see what they have for us, or as obvious even they will be shown the doors. ....
Congress(I)-Losing Focus, Losing Mandates!!
The Win for the BJP, the first south of the Vindhyas, is a vote for stability by the people. But more than that, the Congress(I) due to its internal squabbles for tickets and its lack of focus has clearly lost way. If the secular forces had combined together, that is the Congress and JD-S, the BJP could have been kept out. However, the Congress due to a host of issues, especially the price rise had to bear the brunt of the people's mandate.Te failure also stems the fact that, they utterly failed to identify the real issues on the ground. So, the combination of both the lack of unity of the secular forces plus the failure to have a comprehensive vision regarding the real issues has led to the emergence of the BJP in Karnataka. ....
Karnataka Elections & Congress Performance
Its 3:30 AM EST in the night here and I am watching IBN live from last 4 hours to see the Karnataka election updates. BJP must get the complete majority to make government of its own. Gowdas's have ruined karnataka for years, and people have given them a good lesson. Also, we have had enough of Congress and High command politics. I hope Mr Uvaraj Gandhi's tour of India will not stop with tis defeat, so that he can inform Sonia Gandhi where congress stands at grass root level, and what lies ahead for the general election.Good to see people giving mandate so decisively. ....
Meritocracy in Politics
We have seen that Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of Congress have campaigned in Karnataka heavily but have not been able to touch the heart of masses.
1. Do you see a trend of rejection of family based politics by the people of India is becoming more and clearer through mandate?
2. Do you see that people are clearly voting for real work done at grass-root level and people are choosing meritocracy in democracy?
3. Do you notice that there is no place for sycophant leaders in Indian politics?
What is your analysis out of this mandate and how to do you think this will shape up general election?
Thanks ....
Its Victory for BJP & Yediyurappa
Please note that even though this is victory for BJP in Karnataka, it is real victory of Mr. Yediyurappa. who single handedly revolutioned the Saffron Party in Karnataka, a True Son of the Soil with humble, non-corrupt image & pro poor person. (not the son of the soil like Deve Gowda who amassed wealth in the names of the sons/daughter/in-laws and say he is real son of the soil)
Karnataka is lucky to have a chif minister who walks the talk. He may look agitated, but he is straight forward which quality generally politicians lack.
I am not in bangalore to witness tis Great Suceess. All the best Yeddi & BJP. ....
Karnataka verdict
I am happy that BJP could finally make it to the post atlast. Mr Gowda should have had more sound thrashing than what he had. Their family had taken Karnataka to be their personal kingdom. As for Congress, the grand old dame of India, please rise from your petty politics, project a young leader, get rid of your factionalism(I am not sure whether they can do this though!) and try to help in the progress of the state. Mr Dharam Singh and Mr Kharge , you have got elected so many times, yet your constituency remains most backward, wake up and do something now.
Dear BJP,
Don't squabble and squander your opportunity, make Karnataka a better place to live in.
God bless ....
Urban India
I am a non resident indian, and I always feel why people who matters (i.e. educated) why they dont vote?

Best wishes to all the people of India and hope we emerge as super power sooner than later...

STOP the runaway riches of mines and real estate
Whoever comes to power it's important to protect the interest of the state and people by stopping the runaway riches from mines and real estate. Two most important things:
Help the urban poor with housing in Bangalore thru BDA and come down heavily on all the real estate guys who have encroached thousands of acres of land.
Save the environment of Bellary by containing the mines to licensed areas. U know, i know and everyone else knows - more than 80% of mining is illegal.
Stop the common people like me going thru the horrors of inflation by containing this black money sharks.

Karnataka with BJP- worry from TN
Its good that atleast karnataka will have a stable government now. But our worry from TN is Mr.Yediyurappa and his venture in Hogenakkal issue which should not become hot again after the elections.
We would have been happy if Cong had won the elections keeping the cong and present DMK linkage.
Nevertheless, congrats for BJP and lets pray petty politics will not divide the people of TN and Karnataka ....
Congress Blame game
To the panelists who are handling the election coverage pretty well.
In Gujarat Congress blamed the people saying they voted for communal forces. In Karnataka they are blaming the people for voting for caste lines. Will the Congress for once think that in a democracy it is the people who make the decisions and it is not their leaders.(I think that era is over with Indira Gandhi) . By these comments can we conclude that the Congress doesnt pay any respect to the thoughts and mood of the people at all ?

Test of absolute majority
If the current numbers
BJP 108
Congress 71
JDS 37
Others 6
were to be the final results, and still BJP can not make the government, then we need to question our constitution.
It is clear that the Karnataka people have given the mandate to BJP. However the Congress can bypass the mandate by joining hands with JDS. And what we will have then is a government which will be handicap of taking any real serious decisions. (This is what is happening with the Manmohan Singh government at the center - Left Parties with just 61 seats are essentially controlling all the decisions at the Center).
Coalition politics is good only to some extent. It can prevent dictatorial governance and also prevent regional neglect. However when it starts to hinder with tough decision making (read nuclear deal, petrol price hike),thats when it amounts to becoming a bane.
And if BJP couldn't form a government at....

Deve Gowdaji -Fitting Reply
Kudos to the karnataka electorate who had given a fitting reply to DeveGowda who had always played dirty politics whether it is in the days of Ramakrishna Hegde when they contested on the same platform and how Mr.Gowda ditched him at the end.Whether it is BJP or Congress in Karnataka atleast it for sure that the Political career for Gowdaji is at the end.I think he should take sanyas in politics for the betterment of Karnataka. The Congress should project young leaders like Shri Rahul Gandhi etc., ....
Karnataka's results show a trend, which is against Congress lead governmnet in the centre in the next Lok Sabha elections
It is indded a good news that people of Karnataka has given a clear manadate to BJP and taken out power from the opportunists(JD-S). This verdict also shows a trend, which goes against Congress led UPA to win the next Lok sabha election. I think price rise, terrorism are some of the issues, which people are taking seriously. Congress has to be careful now otherwise it has a tough time ahead. Mere projection of Rahul Gandhi as the youth ikon is not going to solve the problem. They need to decentralise some of the responsibilities to their respective state party units and evryhting should not be decided by centre. ....
Congress Strategy
First of all we need to give credit to BJP and especially Arun Jaitley for their outstanding strategy, Good Job. BJP has been winning only of their strategy and deep grass root workers. Congress should develop grass root workers and give away strategy of encouraging 10 to 20 leaders from each state fighting each other.
Sonia, it's high time you change selecting advisors based on Gandhi loyalty. Advisors should be selected based on their mastery of the game. ....
Com'on BJP isn't a party of the Lingayats!!!!
How many political editors and experts of Live TV News, have time and again said that BJP is the Party of Lingayats in Karnataka? It is also quite amusing to hear that one Cong. leader attributed BJP's win to catetist politics.
With 15% of voters (going by statistics through various experts) Lingayats alone could not have obviously, won the hustings for BJP. It had to engineer alliances across the social sections. Just look at the number of reserved seats that BJP has won. This implies that the appeal of BJP has indeed improved among these sections. Wins in constituencies with greater than 20% Muslim voters, also shows that in a way BJP has been able to unite the highly divided Hindu population in this country. Politics is all about bringing people from across sections together through chords of ideology and strategy. BJP has indeed succeeded in that. Pity that its....
A motivating victory for sure
Me being a MBA student ..... apart from selecting my candidate by voting , i learnt a lot from BJP's victory this time .... be it their marketing strategies of the issues they were very committed to tell to the people of Karnataka and their victory keeping the congress and jd-s at bay ....i hope BJP's victory ll change the fortunes towards the positive side of the development ..... ....
Yippie Yeddy Set Go !!
A true eye opener to the greatness of Indian Democracy !! Fence sitters and opportunistic politicians who try old "secular" religious appeasing politics beware of the fast learning Indian Voter who cannot be taken for a ride or granted anymore by quoting non-issues but would vote and vote again parties and candidates who truly work to the development of the state and the country. We have great expectations in the BJP's south Indian account opening at Karnataka and hope to see a la Modi's Gujrath development in the coming days. ....
One party majority...finally....!!
At last some ray of hope for stability...Happy to know that the old man of Karnataka will keep silent until the next elections...still wonder whats running behind his mind...!!.

Think congress lost by not project a leader (Read Krishna..!!), ..hmmm.. again too many CM in waiting in Cong... would have expected a division sooner or later.
For now the infrastructure .. development....bring back good old bangalore...plzzzzzzzzz....!!

The success of BJP
It is time the so called psuedo secularist move away from the political scene of India and allow BJP to rule, not only Karnataka, but also the Country.Even,in the last general Election in 2004,Congress did not get absolute majority and they could form the Govt.,only due to the un principled and oppurtunistic support from the LEFT,which thought it as their golden chance to rule the country on proxy, with out any connected responsibilities. They blocked all progress and Congress did not hesitate to dance to their tune, only to protect their chair .Minority appeasement and vote bank politics practised by the Congress is only dividing the country and the minorities should understand the devious methods unleashed on them.Karnataka is a good start for BJP and they should build on their strength to capture Delhi in the next General Election. ....
Mad Max Of Karnataka

BJP may laugh now but suffer later
BJP would have got a majority in this Karnataka elections however the results shown are due to Hindu votes and I bet if any Muslim or Christian is happy about BJP winning.I feel bad for being a part of the state that encourages parties like BJP to take power. My advice to people of Karnataka is that be ready for more communal clashes in the near future as a result of this verdict. Its sad that thi hppene in South India. Thanks to my fate that I am now working in Tamilnadu and here I am safe, as such things will never ever happen.I appeal to my Hindu friends to give all other religions a fair chance to have a happy living by keeping such communal forces out of the government atleast in the loksabha elections. ....
Congress commits the same mistake again
From the Kartanataka polls outcome it is pretty clear that the Congress has failed to learn from the reason that lead to its fall in Gujarat just a few months back. Congress is like a favourite losing in the final of a sport event. BJP is like a underdog always raising above expectation because of strategy rather that its reputation. Congress should first try to put it a candidate as CM / PM in any election to install trust among people. Well now atleast Congress should re-think their strategy!!!!!! ....
Its good see CNN-IBN holding the spirit of 'Whatever it takes'
Hi all at CNN-IBN,
I am Biju, working as a software engineer in a leading IT firm. Currently I reside at New York. Its 3.03 am local time and i am still awake watching your live streaming about Karnataka Assembly results. So you can guess how curious i am about the poll results.
As Rajdeep mentioned, the momentum clearly is with the BJP. But the point i wanted to make here is different. I really felt very happy when Rajdeep said he and the IBN team admit that you got the exit polls wrong. That is a very good gesture from IBN team. This gesture expresses the spirit of 'Whatever it takes' in its totality. Keep it up and hold that spirit close to your heart.
Kudos to IBN team

Karnataka verdict is a synergistic effect
Karnataka verdict is a reflection of various issues. These issues are related to both rural and urban India. For instance, rural people are completely affected by the price rise and they have voted against it. In urban India, people are more educated and they have voted against dynasty politics, terrorism, and opportunistic parties. From day one, BJP was very systematic and handling all the issues carefully by its both center and state leadership. The other factor why BJP won is the state leadership; Mr. Yediyurappa is known to be a very popular leader among all. Also, BJP did not play its communal card and behaved like a secular party.
Congress did the as usual mistake by giving tickets to Gandhi-Nehru loyalists. Also, people are fed up by the same promises of congress party. In addition, Rahul Gandhi campaign was a complete failure. I think he needs some more time to become....
Positives out of KA poll results
After 4 years of uncertainity, we finally have a single party forming the next government. People can breathe easy as there won't be any pulse raising drama unfolding infront of TV Cameras anymore in KA like the way it did 6 months back when coalition government collapsed.
Here are some positives for Kannadigas from the outcome of the poll:
1> People can expect a stable government focussing more on issues pertaining to Kannada, Karnataka and Kannadiga for the next 5 years.
2> MES has been routed with none of the MES folks getting elected. Belgaum has given the befitting reply to all the MES folks, who for decades were trying to devide people of Belgaum on Kannada-Marathi lines .
3> Political parties such as AIADMK and MES - with published agendas totally against the good of Kannada, Karnataka and Kannadigas were routed by people.
4> People have given stern warning to all those who didn't....

Loan waiver fail to translate into votes in Karnataka
The verdict in Karnataka is a slap on the face of Mr. Chidambaram and the Prime Minister. The duo thought it smart to treat the rich wilful defaulters of farm loans (those having bungalows, a/c cars) as heroes of victims of nature and showered the benefits of loan waivers to them also which has boomranged. Let them remember that honest tax payers and loanees feel ashamed being treated as criminals by every successive Governments against the backdrop excellent recovery performance of bank loans by the SHGs consisting of the poorest of the poor to the exent of 99% against those bestowed with loan waiver. Both the duo and the wilful defaulters belonging to the rich should hang their heads in shame. The middle class and who attained the status of middle class from poorer sections after hard work cannot tolerate these nonsenses any more. The trend will be repeated in....
Stable government a distant dream?
oh! My God....the great KAR-'NATAKA' continues.
It is the term of Congress to have a 20-20 alliance with the JDS. Independents also will be a deciding factor. BJP will not make a government on its own this time. What we are looking for..a stable government, irrespective of party colour, will be a distant dream... ? ....
Sonia shall agree to sit down quietly in Opposition
Sonia shall now decide to be wise and sit down in opposition quietly... let Karnataka go to BJP and let Congress focus on General Elections. Any move on the part of congress to make a govt in Karnatka or break a govt being formed in Karnataka will harm them for sure.
Its a time to think rationally and look forward for cong.
Good luck to the winners and best of luck to the fighters :) ....
Development Karnataka
Why is Ms.Jayanthi blaming Communal forces etc., etc., Could she please tell us that inspite of many many years of Congress rule, why, other than Bangalore, Other areas of Karnataka have not been developed, inpite of their Big wigs having been voted to power from places like Bellary.
When they are fleeing from the nation they look forward to Bellary for solace and then forget about it.
It is development and nothing else, excuses like Incumbancy factor are just excuses, people are not fools, if you dont perform then you are out. ....
Mockery of Democracy
Can leaders like Jayanti Natrajan answer how can we trust the constitutional offices like governor and President office. Hasn't a time arrived when we need to put an amendment to our constitution banning the political people from holding the constitutional offices. These offices are grossly misused mostly my Congress but BJP is not clean either. ....

Karnataka Result
I am writing to say my views after watching an interview of Ms Jayanti Natrajan on CNN-IBN.According to her Congress still says that the mandate is not with BJP.Is congress still optimistic after getting defeated continously from past one year every time they have faced BJP ?I think now congress should start being practical and think something which benifit the country and not any individual. They should not support the senseless issues like Reservations as everything is getting wrong for congress and still they are shameless.
I agree with Mr. Prasad that the Governer of Karnataka should invite the single largest party to form the govet.
Well Done BJP n Well Done Voters of Karnataka. They now know that now no more fooling around would do,the voters need the govt. to tackle the major issues like Infrastructure, inflation & price rise etc. ....
KARNATAKA POLITICS - Thanks to IBN Live
Firstly I would like to thank IBN Live for providing unparallel coverage on the website, which make millions of Indians residing outside India get the latest results.
I have been glued to my laptop for last 3 hours to watch the development. I am extremly happy, finally we will have a stable Govt. Apart from Career the key reason I left Bangalore is due to pathetic infrastructure, bad governance but now with a stable Govt. I can expect situation to continuously improve. BJP being the first party to form the Govt. in South, would expect to do Good Job atleast to save thier credibility and to make sure they also able to do well in 2009 Lok Sabha Election.

Congress-JD(S) pact - with loksabha elections in horizon!
Despite the BJP emerging as the single largest party, I foresee a definite pact between JD(S) and the congress. With the lok sabha elections in the horizon this is but unavoidable and indispensable, given the obsession for a so-called "secular front". And BJP again will sit in the opposition despite having gained significantly in the electoral politics. It is yet to widen its basket when it comes to universal acceptance. ....
A new Beginning
Given the final contour of composition of parties in the new assembly, BJP should waste no time in putting together members who can support its governance model. The astute Arun Jaitely's commitment & support is needed continuously for this incumbent government to rally this crucial support in the numbers game.
Karnataka is crying for an administration which will focus on governance not on land grabbing. Yediurappa should also remember that to win two terms in succession you need to deliver and seen to be delivering.
I wish the government all the very best.

Not Congress defeat...but a BJP Victory
I am greatly pleased to hear that BJP is in striking distance but still worried about not making it upto magical number. if BJP makes it to magical number I will be a very happy man just by the fact atleast some party(JD-S) which is more interested in power than people had been taught the lesson.
I am confused a bit by Mr. Rajdeep's analysis reg. the congress defeat. He thinks that this is a congress 'CENTRAL GOVERNMENT' defeat which I disagree. These elections are mainly due to the breach of trust by JD-S towards BJP. So when the polls are conducted in such fashion, the crux of the election is trust and BJP has a clear advantage in this field.
So its not the failure of Congress Central Government but defintly the victory of BJP... ....
Let's hope for the best
Its amazing the way BJP have come to power for the first time in a south Indian state. One can only hope that they provide a stable government and with a lot of accountability. The Congress couldn't capitalise in this election due to a lack of leadership. Everyone knows that after every election, the leader of the legislative party is not elected by the elected members but "chosen" by "Madam" Sonia Gandhi. I guess the central leadership of the Congress Party must delegate all responsibilities to the local level.
Coming back to the BJP, if this trend continues then we know very well what might happen next year during the Lok Sabha elections.

Clear verdict
First of all thanks for excellent IBN live portal,
Despite the image of a progressive State, factors such as absence of a popular government, indecisiveness of bureaucracy caused lot of confusion and derailed the development of the state.I was worried about hung assembly again in karnataka during the initial counting phase, People of Karnataka has given clear verdict this time. Thats an exciting news.

A Saffron Beginning for South India
The symbolic and psychological underpinings of BJP's victory cannot be underestimated. It is a grand beginning for the party in the South. But, as Ramachandra Guha said recently, the true success of the party can only be judged on whether it holds its ground in the State for a long time. Uttar Pradesh, where the party's decline had been as rapid as its rise, has set a very bad precedent.
BJP should hold on to Karnataka like how they have held Gujarat, for these results to have a long term impact on other southern states.
It must be noted that the BJP's performance in Karnataka is not based only on its Sangh Parivar base, but also on caste and money. This therefore is not a 'typical'BJP victory and could very well be a flash in the pan.

Turn of BJP In Karnataka
From the leads and what is emerging, it finally seems that the BJP has been given an opportunity to administer Karnataka. Hope the BJP does justice to this opportunity and does not squander it away. What the next 5 years is needed in Karnataka and Bangalore in particular is to take advantage the state has of the lead it has in developing the sunrise industries of India -IT/BT.Hopefully BJP will be able to provide the administration and make up for the lack of develpoments over the last 5 years dut to unstability. ....
What BJP means to Karnataka?
AS a young citizen of Bangalore,Karnataka, I am concerned about BJP winning the elections.
1)They are power hungry, which might mean they are more intrested in making money rather than running the government.
2) Fight between yediurappa and ananth kumar which might lead into internal battle between BJP
3) BJP being a north karntaka party might ignore the southern karntaka where improving the infrastructure is the need of time.
4) Being the hindutva party, they might disturb the secular nature of the state. Muslims of karnataka are one of the most educated and well placed economically than other muslims from other states of the country.
But on the positive side we have seen congress and JD for all these years and Karnataka has never seen any plus points from these parties why not give a chance to BJP and see what they do? There is nothing to loose as anyways the other two....
People's mandate
Let the congress not misuse their position and try anything funny. At least for once let them TRULY respect the people's mandate... Let them remember that any attempt to subvert the decision of the people will only prove counter productive to them in the general election. As for the JD(S) it is time the gowdas learnt that their brand of politics can at best be termed petty. They are the ones that caused this elections and brought this expense on to the taxpayer. If anyone were to ally with them to form a government then they would be doing immense injustice to the citizens. ....

Thumbs up for Governer's rule
For all political parties E=MC2 where E= Elected M = Money and C = Corruption.
Living in Bangalore, I can very confidently say that the last few months of Governer's rule has seen more development then the last 8 years that I have been staying here. I would vote to keep Governer's rule. There are many advantages of this apart from getting the work done.
1. No wasting money on the salaries and benefits reducing national wastage permanently.
2. No wastage on maintaining the offices, cars, perks, and etc.
3. Reduced corruption as we don't have to put up with the misuse of power by vested interests.
4. Single point of representation for the people
Along with Governer's rule we should provide unlimited powers to the Lok Ayukta with proper checks and balances to keep the corrupt out of the system.

When will we learn?
After almost 4 years of suffering under a coalition government when karnataka, "our" state went to polls again, only thing I hoped for is a proper result, no more cheap coalitions, total abandonment of little principles whatever is still left with the parties. I wake up today look at the trends and I have only one complaint, not against the politicians, but against over own people. Even after so many years only 50% people think of going and voting, what else can we expect?, people really suck, shouldn't we be going out there and exercising our votes, if even 25% more of us had decided to go ahead and vote we would not be in this situation. ....
Sorry to see the initial trends
I am really sorry to see the initial trends. Deve gowda may be king maker again and may continue to spoil the image of Bangalore (in terms of development). I think it is the high time for every one (who stay away from voting) to understand the importance and plan to vote in the next general election. ....
Hung Assembly- whats the solution
Karnataka is heading for hung assembly. Everybody would agree that hung assembly is not good for any state or any government. Its high time, that some rules need to be formed to have stability in the government. These rules can be many and coming to get consensus will take lot of time. But the more time we take, the more delay will be there towards development. ....
Karnataka needs stable govt - Either BJP or Cong.
Karnataka needs to have a stable govt either of BJP or of Cong. We can't afford to have the political mess it has witnessed in last few years once again which has affected the growth of Karnataka as well as Bangalore. I hope and pray the BJP comes to power with a clear majority. We have had enough of Congress and JD('S'so called secular) mis-rule which basically has set Karnataka back by atleast a few decades. I'm regretting that I couldnt be in Bangalore during this election and cast my vote.

Of election dates, results and downfall of kingmakers
One would remember that the Karnataka Congress was not ready for an election in May. They took the alibi of delimitation in their appeal for September (or even November) polls. So, I don't expect the Congress to get majority this time, since they themselves aren't confident of it. The BJP planned to harp on the great betrayal by the JDS. As time passed by, it has lost out the sympathy factor. BJP would have preferred the elections to be held in January this year. So, it may miss out on getting majority for the second time running. So, the biggest beneficiary of the present dates of the elections would be the JDS. Not that they can achieve majority, for Gowda and sons are keener to be kingmakers. The elections are most likely to throw up a hung assembly.
The Congress has too many chief ministerial aspirants. Former CMs SM Krishna....

need of the hour, single party rule
I am of opine that let any single party should come to govern Karnataka State. It does not matter which party will rule correctly. When a person like Mr Gouda managed whole country as a Prime Minister, then no doubt any party, be a BJP or Congress or any party, they will definately govern better. I am of sure that any person, even headless, can also run the show better provided he should have a clear majority. Most of the Governemnt works are managed by burocrates and we at Karnataka have a team of best IAS, ICS & IPS in the country, they have vision & dedication to do smoething for their Karnataka.
I do not belong to any party but I support to Mr BSY as he has some vision and to do list. I am sure that if a chance is given to him he will bring back....
Lanuage and Election
Recently I was discussing withy my friend about the linguistic chauvinism which raises its head during elections "Outsiders are taking away the jobs from the sons of the soil." growled the Shiv Sena supreme Bal Thackeray and made an emotional appeal to the Marathi manus to vote for Shiv Sena to save Mumbai from outsiders specially the Biharis and Bhaiyas(Slang used for people from UP).The State of Assam is on constant boil over the issue of Bengalis and Biharis taking over the job from them. The recent IT boom in Bangalore has resulted in large scale migration of people from other States into Bangalore. As per recent reports around 70% of IT workers in Bangalore are non kannadigas. So the local population which has so far been famous for its "Kindly adjust maadi" attitude, is slowly losing its cool.So Deve Gowda has announced a reservation for Kannadigas if Janata Dal comes....
Do IPS officers in karnataka lack courage to protest?
I am referring to the issue of suspenidng the SP of Bellary. Can't vote even if I want to
This time around, more than people asking for votes there seemed to be a bigger propaganda asking people to vote. My parents for one, being dutiful citizens of a democracy have never missed voting in an election.
We shifted residence sometime in Dec 2005 with the result that we were now in the newly created Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency from Basavanagudi. The Election commission, the BMP and the state government made a good job of posting ads in the newspapers instructing people not on the list or needing a transfer to another list to fill out a form and submit it to the nearest Bangalore One centre.
My father dutifully filled out the form and on his next trip to the BDA complex on the ring road near Magadi Road took it along. There however, he was told that the box to drop those forms off had not been setup by the BMP. This....
Demanding Jobs for Kannada People
Hi,
I urge the new Karnataka Government to provide jobs (mainly in IT sector) to the ethnic Kannadiga people. I am bemused with the fact that most of the important folks who represent Karnataka in the media do not project this issue and demand for the immediate implementation of the same.
Many critics, theater personalities, environmentalists, people representatives talk about how to improve the infrastructure in Bangalore. I aint heard anyone speaking about implementation of Sarojini Mahishi report demanding for greater share of jobs for Kannada folks.
Karnataka is just not Bangalore, Karnataka is a great state, media should project Karnataka and not just Programs like "Battle for Bangalore", "Who will win Bangalore Mandate?".
I sincerely hope the new Karnataka Government will address my query and provide the solution swiftly and amicably. ....
Shut the door to Cheaters
Dear voters shut the door to cheaters for the petty politcs by some family member's ruled party. BJP deserves a chance since they were the largest part but were unable to rule the state. Congress has ruled karnataka for ~50 years and no development has been done. father-son's party is always against development. NICE project is in bad shape bcos of this party. See the fate of roads in the billages you will come to know what a party which ruled 50 yrs has done to them. This father is comenting police saying they r targetting a particular community in the name of terror! by this he is demoralising the police force also.. for petty politics.
GIve ful majority to BJP and then voters can judge who is better for the state.

All the migrants who are staying here from past 20Years dont have a sense to register there name in the voting list, still those shameless people want better infrastructure in bangalore...
Come on people WAKE-UP!!!!forget about the result, just cast your votes, i do agree most of the politicians doesnt deserve our vote but still we have to pick best....
Bangalore;s Glory
Indian dmocracy has acquird its own shape. Hardly Parliament and Assembly elections take place avery five years at a time. The politics of coalition and introduction of Aya Ram Gaya Ram, defections have made Indian election system quite frequent. The emergence of regional parties in the States and growing coalition politics have destablised many of the State govwernments. Karnataka is one of such State. Too frequent elections and coalition politics in the Stateshave been proving detrimental to the growth and development of the States. Besides this the philosophy of sons of the soil is also proving negatibve. Political heavy weight in Karnataka like Deve Gowda and his brand of politics is not proving healthy for growth. Karnatka has a glorious history and Bangalore today has emerged on the international map.
Thomas L. Friedman in his book The World Is Flat, at many placaedhas glorified Bangalore. If India has been known to....
Karnataka Governer THE BEST
The Karnataka Governer is the best and has been managing the adminstration for quite a some time single handedly.
We don't want a train of ministers to run the show. We require capable person and it is our Governer.
What a shame, time waste and our money wasted on banners being hosted at every nook and corner of the roads.
Government don't lay roads, drainages etc but only dismantle and cause inconvience to the public.
I would appreciate if our great Governer runs the adminstration, we can save on people money and time. ....
Stable Government in Karnataka
A crucial and important election is on in Karnataka state. After we have been witness to the high drama that ensued last year, it it high time that we, Kannadigas and our brothers & sisters living in Karnataka should wake up and vote for a single party that leads to a 5-year stable government in place. The 1st phase showed a low voter turnout in Urban Bangalore which is worrying. At the same time Rural Bangalore has impressive voting figures. We still have the second and third phases of voting which will obviously decide the election of a single future party and stable government.
I am an NRI living in United Kingdom and even though I am very keen to exercise my right to vote, I cannot physically be there to do it. So I kindly request all the people living in Karnataka to go out in large numbers to vote....
Better Bangalore
Preface: Before reading this article. I would like to make some clarifications. This article is not about explaining about Bangalore city as such. It tells about how Bangalore as compared to how it was ten years before. Moreover, this is one new found Bangalore. The definition of Banglorean used in this is a person living in Banglorean for more than one year. Software engineer don't include Managers and above. This is for Bangaloreans mainly.
Bangalore, the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear about Bangalore is "Software hub, Traffic Jams, constructions along the roadside, high cost of loving, etc". These were not there at the beginning. The impression is that once the software companies started coming to Bangalore, all these problems arise. To meet the requirements of the software companies the constructions started and still the construction is going on and hence you have "Traffic Jams".
Many Bangloreans crib....
Prevent low voter turnout!!!!!!!!!
Well as whole of India is following Karnataka Polls keenly, seeing the turnout here in the 1st phase of elections, I feel the people here itself are not interested. Thus, it has become an absolute essentiality to bring out a law to make voting cumpolsary. In that law people of the richer background should be denied passport if they do not vote, middle class people must be prevented from getting telephone or gas connections if they do not vote, lower strata people must be prevented from getting ration or BPL cards. Well this is the stage that should be implemented only when the voter rolls are perfect. Just like IT returns have to be filed every year, people should file their names with address and other essential details for the voter rolls. So with this I would like to conclude by saying that people do not care about whom they will be ruled but....

The mere best gift Karnataka can get from its people, is if all of us go and vote.Every vote makes a difference, may be for good, bad or worse. We have to make it work for good.Criticizing politician, is healthy. But criticism always need not be verbal,it can be expressed by voting against the person. This is the most powerful source we have.We get this opportunity once in while. Please go ahead and vote smart, make your vote talk. ....
First person view
All roads for journalists in Bangalore seemed to be leading to R.V. College in Jayanagar, where BJP senior leader Ananth Krishnan would cast his vote. I take pride in saying our channel (CNN-IBN) was one of the earliest to reach there. As an intern, this was my first assignment on polling day.
I was excited, and anxious at the same time to pull off this assignment successfully. The whole atmosphere was in a frenzy. Cops keenly observed every action of everyone entering, and cameramen of different news channels were getting ready for the action…each one vying to be the first to get that exclusive.
I was posing like I knew everything. I was actually nervous because I really never did this before. After a long wait, the man himself arrived and cameramen ran helter-skelter to shoot his arrival. Ten minutes later Ananth Krishnan came out with his family after having cast....
Why should one Choose the right candidate ?
One should vote for the right candidate irrespective of party.
Reasons :
1. All the parties are in same boat. No difference at all because same politicians are entering different parties. Also parties have given tickets to people who joined a day before the nomination date[Congress might be an exception here]
2. By voting for the right candidates you can enforce parties to select the right guys. Otherwise they will give tickets to people who have money and muscle power.
3. Anyway we cannot directly control which party will come to power; but by voting right candidates, we can ensure we have better MLAs.
4. We also need strong opposition in a healthy democracy. Can you imagine an assembly without strong leaders of all parties ?? Kumaraswamy, Yedyurappa, Siddaramiah, Bangarappa ?? It only means we need right people. e.g. You may not like JD-S... but will you choose Mrs. Mamta Nichani over Kumarswamy....
Regional V/s National party and the unbalanced Agenda
Its a debate which frequently keeps hopping our mind as much as a regional party bubbling in elections. The National parties like Congress has been holding the helm all through the years, with BJP and Janatha parties for a short time. Janatha party though a national party in beginning has little prominence else where, as being scattered around. The JD(S) cannot actually identify itself as a National nor a Regional and actually flips based on circumstances.
The smaller Regional parties like Kannada Chaluvali, Kannada Paksha, Raitha sangha have been coming around promising to play a prominent role. Only if they had grouped together forming a uniform strategy instead of an individual voice.
Why do we have to look at Regional party over National party atleast during the elections and why isn\'t making atleast a deciding factor towards making a government? Many a times we see the National party lacks in....
Bring end to the Electoral rule in Karnataka Please!
Hello,
Please bring end to the electoral rule in Karnataka please.I feel it's better we make Vidhana Soudha a prime destination for tourists and not for the political thinkers in the State.I feel we are better off with the President's rule in the State. If at all electoral rule comes in place then I hope a great political visionary like Mr.S.M.Krishna comes to the helm of the state politics.Only then we can synergize the growth in the State. ....
karnatakas nataka
\"we will wait for the leading party to approach us\". these were the words of former prime minister when asked about as to who will form the next govt. This is just the tip of the iceberg .The political party\'s here have made mockery of the democracy . This shows that these guys have only one thing in their mind that is to be kings and do what they have been doing their entire lives. The people here are tired of the coalition govt and will have only themselves to blame if they provide yet another fruitless verdict. ....
Who do I vote for?
Politicians are doing the rounds of what they know best: greeting, meeting and wooing the people. But in the midst of this madness known as elections, I, a concerned youth ask...Who do I vote for?
Indeed youngsters are dismissed as being disinterested in politics. Can you blame us? We see the same drama unfold every election. Promises made, promises broken...and while the Indian constitution -- I have great respect for it -- states that we are a secular country, every political party mocks that status.
I still remember how I was shocked when a classmate, in the midst of a huge debate, blurted out that the Congress was not at all secular. They woo minorities, BJP woos the majority. So again I ask...who do I vote for? If everything is just said and not done. Policies made to benefit some politician's son, balances thrown totally off-guard, who do....
Karnataka once again paving the way for a coliation government
It\'s not possible that a single party will come into power in Karnataka. Again it\'s going to be coliation government only. BJP is going to earn profit this time. S M Krishna has tried his best to attract the voters, but the truth is that Krishna is famous only within the Bangalore only. Outside Bangalore he has no influence. Even the price hike is going to create trouble for Congress and the BSP is also going to cut the vote from Congress quota. It will definitely help BJP. ....
Why BJP and not Congress.
Even after 50 years of rule, congress is still making same promises. We will give you water, electricity, roads, communal harmony etc. Congress has completely failed in all aspects. I am a marathi and i have seen maharashtra going down everyday. The infrastructure is in ruins. We get water only for 2 hours a day. Electricity is absent for 6 hours a day even in pune. The only motorway in the state was built by \"communal\" SS/BJP govt. Not a single inch is been added to it.
Congress\'s record of communal harmony is far worst than any other party in india. Maharashtra leads in attrocities against dalits. Khairlanjee is a glaring example. Not a single person is charged for this. Even a few weeks ago near aurangabad two dalits were made blind because one of them had an affair with a high caste girl. Congress acively supports militant organisation called Sambhaji....
Whom Should We Vote?
Whom should somebody vote?
Which party has the credibility to get the votes?
Reason for my questions is:
Congress: Nobody knows who is the CM candidate, probably if SM Krishna was the CM candidate I would have voted to congress because of his vision, the way he changed Bangalore in a span of 5 years(probably the only CM who bought the dreams of middle class people to reality by getting IT and the required infrastructure for IT even when his party was not in power at central) and his ability to handle situations(Let it be Rajkumar kidnap issue, cauvery water sharing issue, Hogenkal issue and we all know how the later goverment handled the issue of Rajkumar\'s death).
Since we don\'t know who is going to be the CM candidate it becomes very hard to vote, as the expereince we had in last elections is still green. Congress is losing because of lack....
Good Politicans
I see all kinds of bashing for all candidates. Somewhere 1 out of 10 there are few good people who really want to server the local community. There is so much hatered among politicans and this is further intensified by exterme coverage and news articles we get.
This will not highlight the good work or intensions done by few. Though there are not much instances like this there are really few like development of Piligrimage town of Nanjungud done by the local MLA. or development of parks in South and West Bangalore and solving water problems of Bangalore West.
Some MLAs should be give credit to whatever little effort they have put which sends the right signals to other people. Hopefully others will follow for earning respect and accolades from Media and public

We need better Governence!
Finally.. elections are all set to start.. well, We need better governence atleast now.. it is high time Bangalore city sees much needed development interms of Infrastructure, Traffic Management.I\'m sure we are going to lose out to other cities if this key areas are not looked into.. for all this.. we need honest people who should not have any scams attached to their names and willing to work for people.. looking forward to have a better working government.. ....
Karnataka Assembly Election Opinion on seats
The election in Karnataka is entering into a crucial phase. A quick visit to various constituencies reveals that most of the voters are still lethargic in their attitude towards voting. Nevertheless, a sizeable sections of the society from various walks of life have begun debating as to who will get into the Vidhan Sabha. The party volunteers, depending upon their commitments have begun wooing the voters with all kinds of promises. The larger the amount creased, the more deep the workers plunge into the work field. Their work might create in-built backward linkage with the voters resulting in latter executing their franchise in large numbers. But still the State average may not cross more than 68% polling !
It is unfortunate that political parties have started influencing voters with all kinds of “incentives”, in an effort to gain favour. Unfortunately, Karnataka is setting a trend of voters incentives, a disease if....
Promises that hardly matter after the election
Just as I start writing this I wonder would a new party really make any difference to this great state. Its been a while since things are getting worse and management seems to be hardly working on the future vision of this state. Yes a lot of political parties talk of vision for Bangalore but hardly anyone who can talk about how Bangalore as a global city can compliment the growth for the rest of the state. Most of the talks (cant call it a vision) is just a flowery image they want to create about Bangalore but there is something more that I would expect from the big guns. I would love to see a fullfledged project plan that can take this state forward concentrating on the major industries like agriculture, IT, manufacturing and tourisim.
We all know that Bangalore is getting flooded with more people coming in and more....
The Noisy Fuming Autos
Has everybody forgotten these words – “Noise Pollution”?
We are always very vocal about the Diwali crackers and the high decibels that emanate from the speakers. But surprisingly nobody has ever raised this issue of the noisy (deafeningly noisy) auto rickshaws that ply on Bangalore roads, in-fact saturate the Bangalore roads day and night. If scientifically measured I am sure most of these autos can handsomely beat the Diwali crackers by leaps and bounds. And the most important thing is that they travel along side with you when ever you are on road.
I am sure, just like the emission norms there are also some benchmark regarding the noise levels that vehicles should maintain. And I remember a decade back this used to be followed strictly and the offenders were booked in a regular manner. But surprisingly now you see so much of autos making noises that no civilized society can....
THE GREAT ELECTION DRAMA
I belive that a lot has been said and done about elections in karnataka, i think this time around people are more aware and they want to cast their vote to make the difference. People have had enough of the dirty politics so now we the people of karnataka will turn the things around this time..

How to make politicians work?
Karnataka goes to poll on May 10th and soon all Kannadigas are going to have a new government which will start with a host of promises to improve the quality of life for the common people and make Karnataka the best place to live in this country.
Thats what elections are all about isnt it? For people like us we vote expecting an efficient Government ruling our state/country. But hang on are we really getting what we hope for? Looking at the present Karnataka election and the major party\'s contesting it i dont think we can hope for an efficient administration in general emerging out of this political battle.
The reasons are many according to me but there are certain things which i would like to mention as to why i think so. Firstly all the party\'s are having candidates in excess of 5 members who are having past criminal....
Party with a difference????
If we could clearly observe the drama that happened for the last few months, it was very evident that Sri.Yediyurappa was power hungry. Even after betrayal from the JDS he chose to stop his anti-JDS rally and run down to bangalore to take blessings of Sri.Devegowdaji to form a government after the first breakup. He also went to the extent of changing his name to get the CM gaddi.. True that we have tasted the rule of JDS and Congress before, and BJP needs to be given a chance. But how could anyone vote for a party whose leader\'s aim is to become the CM and nothing more than that? Cant one serve the people without being the CM? Is the term \"Party with a difference\" just a wrong attribute to describe the BJP?

Harish Krishnan ....
Me a bangalorian too,
I am Here since the millennium. Came to the voter list only this time. This story is about a candidate of my area. Who said? “Guys in your area (all Apts) together there r about 5000 voters in the previous E list. Very sad to inform that only 5 voted in the elections last time. Don’t u feel ashamed to tell us u need a stable state govt this time ??? Vote first and then talk. “
I was ashamed to ask him more…Wake up guys we have to be a part of this largest democracy

HDK v/s SMK fighting Hard... Its advantage BJP
Indian politics is mainly divided based on Caste and Karnataka is not different from it. Since its formation Lingayaths and Vokkaligas have played a major role in all the government formation leaving few cases asides which largely got impacted due to pressures from central leadership.
This election also will see a Major tussle between these two Castes. B.S. Yeddyurappa has a Advantage over JD(S) and Congress because he doen\'t have competition from any other Major Lingayath leaders who can claim to become CM from JDS and INC. regarding Vokkaligas they will prefer to go with Kumaraswamy as they are not sure of S M Krishna will become CM or not.
In case of Lingayaths M P Prakash may not emerge as CM as he doesn\'t enjoy support from his own Caste.
Its all in all Advantage B S Yeddyurappa and BJP as they have manage to pool in large support base among Lingayaths....
Dear Next Government: Twenty Things That Matter Most
Elections to the Karnataka Assembly are round the corner & all the major political parties participating in this poll are busy bringing out their manifestos. In these manifestos, we come across \"Rice at Rs 2 per kg\", \"Free colour TVs for BPL card holders\" type of promises. It appears that the political parties are focusing less on areas which need to be addressed for long-term development & are resorting to mostly populist measures.
We expect the political party / parties that form the government, to work on solid long term initiatives & policy changes which can put Karnataka on the path of development in the long run. Kannadigas would like to see some serious work to be done by the government that gets to work from June 08.
Karnataka needs a government which has a long term vision of where we need to go & clarity on how to get there. Karnataka....
Nomination Process should be made Online
Nomination process should be made online so that we can save crores of rupees that is being spend on this. By doing this we can avoid drams that usually happen during Issue of B Form (The one which happend in Davanagere North Assembly resulted in No candidate for Congress).
To keep the spirit of Democracy we can have Internet Kiosks in each District for the candidates who needs help for using online version.
Advantages:
We can have back up documents in Images
Document Verification can be centralized
B-Forms can be auto generated by each parties and Issued to candidates online
Rejection of Nominations can be Avoided as the validations is done online
Public will be aware of all the details. ....
JAGO KANNADIGAS
All the voters of karnataka irrespctive of thier caste, religion, mother
toung must decide to vote for a single party majority.Last four years
of coalition rule has pushed the state backwards in all repacts. All
parties have good and bad candidates but atleast for once we have to forget the individual and vote for a party.Today after 60 years of
democracy we know all the parties, fortunatly there are no new parties. We
have to select from the major three parties only.
If again there is a hung verdict by us,we only will suffer. The power
brokers and mafias will run the state, please dont allow that to happen.
Go out on the polling day and vote for the best PARTY

Bangalore v/s Karnataka
Is Bangalore not in Karnataka anymore? According to some of the English news channels it seems so. I am following the Election coverage consistently on some of the channels, but lot of emphasis is given on Bangalore than the state as a whole. We need to understand something here. Karnataka is just not Bangalore and the English speaking, highly educated IT people are not the only residents of Bangalore or Karnataka.
As a Bangalorean and a Kannadiga, i do understand the problems of our city, but doesnt\'t mean that we just need to focus only on Banaglore ignoring the rest of the state. It is expected of the media that it should give an unbiased coverage of the events, but in this case we are disappointed that most of the focus is just on Bangalore. For instance, in one of the shows on CNN-IBN, where we had 4-5 under-40 politicians contesting....
How accountable are our Politicians?
How accountable are our politicians? Accountability wrt the Common Man problems or issues whom they represent in the Assembly!
The General Perception has been most of the politicians, spend most of their time either in Bangalore or involved in the day-today activities of their Business and other activities of their own. This phenomenon has been existing, a decade back or two decades back or and no different currently. There are some politicians who win the elections on thier money power and are quiet open in stating (in their private circles), \'i have spent money and have won, no body has voted me with out receiving the money for their vote, y the hell shud i go back till the next election\'.
Even today it is sad that most of the candidates, have a common communicable agenda - \'i wanna make my constituency - a model constituency, give full power, good....
How Youngistan should venture into Politics and adopt Entrepreneurial Style of Management and be the Change of Nation!
Looking at what happened, in the co-alition politics of Karnataka during the last term, here appears a tremendous opportunity for India\'s YOungistan to think Out of the Box, adopt Entrepreneurial Style of Management and be the model for the change in Indian Politics! So what is this all about? Looking at previous term, the JD-S having the lesser number of MLA\'s than BJP or COngress, was successfully part of entire term of 4 year part of the government. So, in a situation of hung assembly any body who stands a chance of adding to the numbers of Party1 or Party2 in forming a clear majority will have a vital role in the formation of government.
What actually is this? Out of 224 assembly constituencies, if Congress wins 75 and BJP wins 75, JD-S has option to win 40 and others 35. Again it is going to be a hung assembly.....
NO COALITION PLEASE
PEOPLE OF KARNATAKA HAVE SUFFERED FROM COALITION GOVT. CROOKS, UNASHAMED POLITICIANS LIKE DEVEGOWDA WILL GET ANOTHER CHANCE TO LOOT FROM BEHIND THE SCENE TO KEEP SUCH SELFISH POLITICIANS AWAY PEOPLE SHOULD VOTE TO A PARTY WHICH GIVES STABILITY FOR FIVE YEARS WITH PEACE, DEVELOPMENT AND UPLIFTMENT OF DOWNTRODDEN. I REQUEST ALL PEOPLE OF KARNATAKA DONOT GIVE A CHANCE AGAIN TO THIS SLEEPING MAROON ....
Indivisuality do not matter here.
Its clearly evident that no indivisual party will rule karnataka in near future, Thanks to the triple c factor (caste ,communal and corrupt). This state with high credentials seems to neglect the gruesome political turmoil in the past. The last few months when the governor was incharge of the state ,It appeared that stability has finally come .But all this caste ,terrorism based politics have resurfaced to take its toll on the state. ....
Karnataka Election
TOUGH TO SAY WHO WILL COME TO POWER. BUT I HOPE JDS IS ROUTED IN THE COMING ELECTIONS. ESSENTIAL THAT EITHER OF THE 2 NATIONAL PARTIES MUST COME TO POWER. ....
Karnataka Votres have lofty ideals!
Among the four South Indian states, the people of Karnataka(\"Kurunadu\"- lofty land)have been deemed to be very pragmatic, unassailed by appeals to emotions, always placing the interests of the land above their individual needs! The important landmark - \"Vidhana Soudha\"- was built in the heydays of uninterrupted Congress rule. They had made Karnataka an impregnable fortress of Congress.
They fell victims to the onslaught of casteism and suffered much.So after 1983, the voters of Karnatak gave a verdictwhich made three parties hope against hope of forming thengovt.BJP with 79 could not form the Govt.
The JD(S) with just 57 seats, madea big mouth about NOT joining with a communal party and let Dharam singh of Congress form a govt.
After 20 months, the JD(S) withdrew support and let the Congress Govt. resign! The voters of Karnataka know fully why this took place?
BJP\'s long hunger to form a Govt, in Karnata made it....
votes divided

How Pseudo are the current Electoral Process?
Having watched over the past few days, the way the parties have picked up the candidates, I start to wonder how pseudo are the current electoral process. Today I am gonna speak about the INR Ten Lakhs - the max budget a candidate is allowed to spend for a constituency. As we are seeing, amongst the COngress, BJP and the JD-S, most of the candidates seeking to contest have been Crore-pathi\'s. These people are from the backgrounds - Real-Estate, Mining, Liquor etc. In Bangalore itself the worth of candidates who are contesting from the different constituencies have been stagerring > 10 Crores. Two of the contestants are worth more than 150 Crores. The basis that these candidates have been given the tickets is that their money power could be used for the elections and also to rope in the party fund. When such kinda money is floating around, with the....
Karnataka needs stability
JD(S) kind of political parties love instability, because that ensures them maximum advantage. In the 2004 election the party got the least no. of seats and yet managed to rule the state. This time around they would be praying for a hung assembly so that they have some relevance in the post poll situation. My prediction for the parties is that:
BJP- 100-105 seats
Congress- 70-75 seats
JD(S)- 20 seats
Others- 20-25 seats
Ofcourse, a few seats here or there will happen but on the whole stability will elude Karnataka. ....
B.J.P MUST GET A FAIR CHANCE
Congress surely has shown neat governance in Mr.S.M.Krishna\'s regime. However Mr. Dharam Singh \"could\'nt do much\" due to his entangled powers that he shared with Karnatakas great politician.
However, Mr.Kumaraswamy showed progress as he was given a fair chance to do something for the state.
The trick that was played on B.J.P is very evident to all of us. It was rather a de-facto but evident prank which cheated the B.J.P of its chance to govern.
Lets give a chance to B.J.P. By this, it is not a chance that we are giving to govern us.
It is a mere long term thought of proving that we are in a democracy, lets show politicians that \"we decide\" and not them. ....
