My money still on Samba magic

With the first ever FIFA World Cup in Africa set to unfold, Brazil are once again seen as one of the strongest contenders to win the greatest prize in football. Traditionally, Brazil has boasted of super-abundance of talented, flamboyant players with a physical structure necessary to overcome tactically disciplined European sides.

Not only have they won tournaments in the past, they have given the world football some outstanding players in the form of Pele, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and many more. From the current squad the likes of Kaka, Robinho, Lucio do not need any introduction.

But this World Cup, it won't be easy for the Samba boys at all. Looking at the final Brazil squad, it's not going to be easy this time around. They lack an all-out striker which they used to have in form of El Phenomeno (Ronaldo) till last World Cup. He could have run riots any day in the opposition defence.

Luis Fabiano is a good striker who has had an indifferent season. Robinho, as talented he is, has been playing in Brazil for months in a league where pressing the ball is almost non-existent. This can really come and haunt them in the South Africa.

I still can't believe Ronaldiniho and young striker Pato, who is already being compared to Kaka, are not in Brazil's World Cup squad. I am sure coach Dunga has missed a trick or two there. These two attackers could have given a really hard time to the opponents in South Africa.

Brazil's group G is the 'group of death.' They have to face teams like Portugal, Ivory Coast and Korea DPR. Keeping Korea aside, it could be any of the two teams that go through. Both Portugal and Ivory Coast has some special talents in their teams and can give Brazil a run for the money.

Brumer Elano is a good player capable of moments of magic but lacks consistency in his game.

Kaka who is one of the best in the business is coming in with recent injury spells with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Filipe Melo is a talented midfield enforcer but endured an awful season with Juventus.

But in defence, Dunga has got some fantastic talent. Players like Lucio, Maicon and Alves are three exceptional defenders and Gilberto Silva is phenomenally experienced and can be used as a substitute, keeping his age in mind.

This Brazil team is a good one for sure, but I am not sure of it having the makings of becoming great one. If they do make it through to the next round - let's suppose in second place - they could well be playing this year's favourite Spain.

Though it's not going to be easy for them this time around but I still have my money on Samba magic as in the past their team has shown that they save their best for the biggest stage.
