Argentina in 'messi-merising' form

1IBNLive IBNLive

Argentina have showed that they are an attacking football team that is able to fight off even the best of opponents throughout their time in the World Cup. The two-time champions destroyed more than average looking side South Korea 4-1 on Friday.

If this side keeps on playing to their potential, I have no doubt that World Cup is up for taking for this wonderful Maradona side. The team, which, likes of Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Kun Aguero, Gonzalo Higuian, Angel di Maria, Javier Mascherano has every ability to destroy opponents at will and there will be only few people who will not term them as the favourites to win the title.

Agreed, Argentina so far have faced weaker sides in Nigeria and South Korea who are no where near the class of this Argentina side and they will face stiffer competition in the upcoming rounds but with Lionel Messi in such mesmerising form, it would be difficult for any opponent to stop him. This man with his pace, agility and intelligence runs through opposition defence with ease.

Diego Maradona has given him a free role and he runs all over the field with astounding speed and control with the ball. In fact from the look of things so far, there seems only one way to win the ball from Messi and that is to foul him.

In mid-field, the likes of Di Maria, Mascherano, Rodriguez give an edge to Argentina this time around.

Up-front Carlos Tevez has struggled so far to make a mark, but Messi and Gonzalo Higuain have more than made up for him. Higuain was at right place at the right time against South Korea when he picked the lose ball to slot it home easily and in process bringing first hat-trick of this year's World Cup.

Diego Maradona's son-in-law, Sergio Kun Aguero played a superb cameo against South Korea where he came close to scoring 2-3 times. Atletico Madrid striker should be used more often as he also looked in the same mould as Messi.

Argentina's defence looks bit of concern for me, likes of Walter Samuel, Martin Demichelis, Gabriel Hienze have not been that solid at back. It was Martin Demichelis' mistake which led to the only South Korean goal.

Argentina has 23 top players in the squad and they're ready to put on the jersey and work on the pitch. This team definitely has the making of the great team and lifting the title after 24 years.
