The Maha saga

4IBNLive IBNLive

Ok...so after days and nights of will they won't they, was he, is he - Shoaib and Sania are ready to take the plunge.

But only after everyone has concluded that Shoaib is a liar and cheated Ayesha, or Maha, or whatever her name is.

The clinching evidence apparently is a stained garment of hers. But then she isn't Monica Lewinsky. Then why on earth would she "preserve" those clothes as proof for some future event when she might need to pin Shoaib down?

But still, she seems to have a degree of public sympathy.

A colleague wondered why a respectable Muslim family would wash their daughter's dirty linen in public if it wasn't true?

But why then, did they keep mum for so many years, and not settle the matter when the media glare was not on them. Why didn't they save their daughter this public embarrassment?

I saw a video clip from 2005, when the Pakistani cricket team dined at Ayesha's Hyderabad residence.

The journalists requested Ayesha's dad to call her for a photo op with Shoaib.

Her father replied - she's not in India, she's in New York.

A lady reporter said - Sir I just spoke with her on the phone. she said she's at home, down with mumps. We won't trouble her- we'll just click a photo.

Her dad retorted - no no she's not here - who told you all this? she's not here.

This is 5 years before the controversy.

It's clearly not a black and white case with one party guilty, and the other, victim.

And as long as Sania and her family know the grey areas...it's ok.
