As the graph of crude oil goes higher the pockets of a common man started loosing up........everybody is complaining for the higher fuel charges........some says its governments manipulations to earn revenues and some says its all about making huge profits for the oil companies.........and some says its all about politics first raise prices then request state govts. to reduce taxes......... (as lok sabha elections' coming near)
But there is a huge question arises 'Can we control this'??? If not then why we are shouting........?? If government has decided that it is going to hike the fuel prices then no body can change this decision (and every one knows that).
Over the weekend, I filled up my car's fuel tank, and I thought fuel has become really expensive after the recent price hike. On my way to back home I just stopped at chemist shop to take a small bottle of DETTOL. He demanded Rs.20 for 100ml bottle. I got shocked when I realized that the simple antiseptic solution of daily use costs us about Rs.200 per liter. As I reached home I started comparing other common liquids that we use in our daily life and did some quick calculations. The results are eye opening and just after that I felt a little better. (About fuel prices). Have a look to some of the calculation I made after looking to the results below - you'll be surprised at how outrageous some other prices are!
Coca Cola Rs.61 per liter(330 ml can: Rs.20)
Dettol antiseptic Rs.200 per liter (100 ml Rs.20)
Radiator coolant Rs.320 per liter (500 ml Rs.160)
Pantene conditioner Rs.413 per liter (400 ml Rs.165)
Medicinal mouthwash like Listerine Rs.450 per liter (100 ml Rs.45)
Red Bull Rs.500 per liter (150 ml can: Rs.75)
Corex cough syrup Rs.570 per liter (100 ml Rs.57)
Kores whiteout Rs.1000 per liter (15 ml Rs. 15)
Cup of coffee at any decent hotel Rs.600 per liter (150 ml Rs. 90)
Old Spice after shave lotion Rs.1750 per liter (100 ml Rs. 175)
Pure almond oil Rs.2720 per liter (25 ml Rs. 68)
And this is the REAL KICKER...
HP deskjet colour ink cartridge Rs.90476 per liter!!! (21 ml Rs.1900)
Now you know why computer printers are so cheap? So they have you hooked for the ink!
So, the next time you're at the pump, don't curse our honorable Petroleum minister - just be glad your car doesn't run on cough syrup, after shave, coffee, or God forbid, printer ink!
It givs a better feeling! Isn't it??

Let us switch off all the communistic grey cells in our brain and start assuming ourselves as finance ministers and the like, for sometime, who are responsible for fixing the price of oil/fuel. With the increasing rich-poor divide in mind, the govt has increased the price of petrol/diesel/lpg but not kerosene. The govt is expected to take the pain for the poor but certainly not for people who were buying petrol at a rate only 5rs lesser. Of course the middle clas is the worst affected. As per god's design of the world we cant wish for rain and the rainbow for long. The only alternative is the public transport. After all, even god cant help one if the one does not help himself. ...
ReplyI have read the blog and understood......but most of the readers have taken it otherwise...........the writer is just giving a comparison of per liter prices just to give a relief (temporary) to himself from the petrol price hike........I think people need to again read it carefully.........before commenting....... ...
Replythe comparision looks cool but a bottle of dettol runs for quite sum time where as a litre of petrol evaporated into thin air within no time and if u own a four wheeler its worse. So the fact remains that petrol still remains expensive and unless the govt stops earning through petroleum products the economy will continue to take the bashing ...
ReplyPetrol is not Coca Cola, coffee or pantene although you are right that people using these expensive products don't ought to complain about fuel prices. Crude Oil is linked to almost everything in economy, from being used in vehicles of transport to earning huge revenues for governements petrol has a far greater grip on common man's life. So I believe you should rethink the point put in this article. ...
ReplyI agree to all the persons who says how much comodities we use per day??.........I am also a victim of high fuel prices and my calculations are just a comparison of rates of liquids per liter we use.......some friends taken it otherwise......I am triying to gather calculations of misuse of the funds by government in providing facilities to politicians......... ...
