What BJP Should Do

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

With the triumphant electoral win in Gujurat last year and in Karnataka now, BJP must ponder as to where its strength and weakness lies. As a party which started its fledgling years as a political arm to RSS; when it was dependent on RSS and its Parivar for organizing and conducting grass root level politics, it has now grown into a formidable opposition party and proved that it can provide an alternative to Congress. What is clear is that if BJP has to come back to power and maintain its UPS - 'Party with difference' - than it must nurture leaders like Narendra Modi and Yeddiyurappa, who have regional presence but have national vision, in long run.

The problem with BJP and RSS is that they don't encourage competent individuals to come above the collective organizational leadership and prove their mettle. Paradoxically, in this aspect they are alike to their....

WHO WON?

3IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Karnataka has voted for a stable Govt. this time. It has voted against the family politics, it has voted against opportunistic politics, it has voted against the babudoms, it has voted against the Long time no see kind of politics, it has voted against "You say what you say, I do what I do" kind of politics, Karnataka has voted against any logical caste equations, Karnataka has broken the barriers of regional politics. It has dismantled the taken for granted peoples' hopes, aspirations and has left them in a vehemence of heart broken condition.

Bangarappa and his two sons losing the elections outright in 'their own' backyard is a straight rejection of family and babuism politics by the so called leaders. Bangarappa losing in his own backyard means that one can not 'rule' the land, but just has to serve the people.

Devegowda and his party have been beaten up cats and....

Karnataka Elections & it's aftermath

2IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Question asked by CNN IBN is valid question. It is very difficult to state that will this election victory revive fortunes of BJP during 2009 General Elections? May be or May not be? Each time election is lost by either of the two national parties, each time this question is asked. I suppose in politics no one can be ruled out. Yes, one thing is certain that the communal tag, tagged by Congress and friends will not work anymore.

I personally feel it is still 50-50 chances of BJP coming to centre. It is not fair to talk of election 2009, as many more state elections are still to take place in 2008. All the elections are really big onces. Even if Congress wins 2 out of 3 states in next coming State elections, same questions will come up. Same CNN IBN will ask how will effect centre. Basically, it....

BJP has to ensure 120+ seats

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

BJP has done well to secure 110 seats and more importantly, more than the Cong and JD(S) combine put together. Unfortunately, even though the arithmetic is met, it is still not an easy situation for the BJP. They would need the support of at least 10 more MLAs to complete their term. Hopefully this sort of tight situation will force them to give a good governance so that they go from strength to strength a la Gujarat.

It would be a bit premature to argue that they have the momentum going into the General elections. History has shown that usually in states the fate of parties has reversed if there is a General election within 1-2 yrs of acquiring power in the state. However, the BJP to its full credit seems to mastered the art of electioneering and is leaving its rivals a distant second in planning and doing the....

ANY WAY : PROVIDE GOOD GOVERNANCE

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

The much awaited Karnataka Assembly election result has provided a great relief to all. It is heartening to see that the majority of voters have preferred a stable Government as against the pollsters / political pundits prediction of a hung Assembly. In my opinion poll study in April (Karnataka Blogs published in your esteemed blog), I had said that the polling may not cross 68% and predicted comparatively more popular votes to Congress concluding that "Both the Congress and BJP will have a close fight and the party which greases the election strategy wheel with good backward and forward linkages with voters and the central leadership respectively, will emerge as the topper on the day". It has been proved that, any opinion poll, that is made with good 'reality check' in the field can clearly predict the outcome.

Evidentally, BJP with a vote share of 33.9% could get 110 seats....

Agenda before the New BJP Government

1IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

BJP won the elections on issues like price rise and terrrorism. Important issues - but, can the new government do anything that can contain the twin cancer affecting this country? HARDLY.

The two issues above will remain the core concerns of the voter in the days to come and will definitely will be issues on which the next elections will be held.

The one area where this government can do wonders is translating the central government's social sector initiatives in the state. There is enough budgetary allocations and if the BJP government can ensure that it touches the last (wo)man, then they can start dreaming of a second term.

Instead of trying to recreate a Bangalore in Hubli or Bijapur, and try to attract IT industries in each city, the new government should conciuosly build a new industry in each district and have completary core comptency take over. That will create a large....

Psuedo secularism everywhere

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

The educated class of India, which hardly cares to vote, is deeply aware and pessimistic about the heavy dose of psuedo-secularism on the platter of politics or the media. The uneducated/illiterate impoverished voter class has been getting fooled since generations.

I am not sure if BJP or NDA will form the next Government at Center. Not sure if it will win the elections in Madhya Pradesh and elsewhere.

One thing I am positive about is that the BJP will make more and more inroads in more and more states/cities/constituencies as the dose of psuedo-secularism gets heavier. It might take decades, it might be post-Advani and post-Modi era.

Political fights will always exist. But over the last decade or so, the electorate has given one signal that the psuedo-secularits need to get alarmed about. Dont push us into a corner.

Media too needs to be shed its psuedo-secularism. Badly. ....

The Price of Inaction

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Another Cong bastion falls to the BJP. Only the strategically blind or a die-hard Cong lover would have not seen it coming. There were all the ingredients ready to make BJP the single largest party in the elections,,if not given them an outright majority - JD(S) playing greed politics with both camps, Cong not even putting up a CM nominee rather playing with a pathetic divisive tactic of putting up disparate community figureheads. But more than all of this, i feel two issues have consistently thwarted Cong in almost all state elections in the last 2 years - Weak response to Terrorism and lack of economic reforms. Irrespective of what the LEFT may shout at the Cong/UPA that anti-people policies are hurting the Cong,,we see that even with all the populist NREGA, Farmer Loan write offs,,we still see Cong thumped out of power in states. The analysis is simple and....

SECULAR VOTE FALLACY & SHIKARIPURA RESULTS

6IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

One of the rationales given for Congress defeat in Karnataka poll is split in "SECULAR" vote. For those giving this explanation, will you please look at the result of SHIKARIPURA? This clearly proves the fallacy in this explanation. Do not look beyond SHIKARIPURA to find answer for this. If they are serious about the real cause it do not need more examples and explanation.

It needs lot of honest introspection and open mind to accept things rather than finding limb excuses. It is surprising that nobody in "High Command" has accepted responsibilities for five defeats in assembly polls so far. This does not look like honest and objective introspection.

Hope from Congress

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

I feel that the congress should behave like a responsible opposition. From the reports comming from the JDS, they are willing to form the government.
Congres just dont do that blunder as Gowdas are well know for Backstabbing. After 10-15 months they will show the true colours.
What the congress will do if the JDS removes support after 10-15 months.
People are matured enough now. Just dont take the support of the shameless JDS. ....
