No bell for Dylan again

2006, May 24th, Shillong, Meghalaya: The early summer rain drizzled outside the Shillong's State Central Library auditorium. As I sat inside, Lou Majaw, (aka Bob Dylan of North East) along with Lew Hilt and the father son duo Anjan and Neel Dutt from Kolkata crooned 'Chimes of Freedom'. If you can't meet the reclusive legend in your life time, Majaw and the gang of Dylanophiles paying homage to the living legend in Shillong every year on his birthday is your best bet. That's beside the point. But Bob Dylan has been denied Nobel dues for literature again. And that pisses me off. No offence Thomas Transtromer, I am sure your work is great, haven't read any of them. But having heard the only sane voice when the "World Gone Wrong", and when the "Masters of war" who build the big bombs... told us that "I shall be free"....

Sangma gone wrong again

6IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Sitting in Delhi, watching the UPA savour its surprise victory, it's too far fetched to do a visual thinking about the losses and gains in the remote North East. However, being a keen follower of the state of affairs in the region, I am compelled to do a post mortem of how P A Sangma, has been courting the national media over the government formation just ahead of the D day. Sangma, in his wrong senses courted the BJP, taunted Sharad Pawar to renounce the Congress and to tilt towards the Advani company. But the UPA's moment of truth proved Sangma wrong again. Of course, nothing new in that. The 'Grand uncle from the hills' has been getting it wrong again and again and again. These political blunders committed by P A Sangma; perhaps the only national face of the North East India at the mainstream is....

More about Mike Sangma

Graduate in Mass Communication from St Anthony's College Shillong and a Diploma in Journalism from IIMC Delhi, Mike started his career with ANI. Later he shifted base to financial capital Mumbai where he worked with Times Now as a business reporter. It was in Mumbai that that his fascination with financial news really started. Mike has been with CNN IBN since 2008 and churns out business reports that affect the average viewers. Inflation, Sensex crashing, Satyam fraud, subprime crisis and all. Worst thing he has ever done as a journalist? Stalking Ratan Tata for a byte on Jaguar Rover deal at Bombay House in a tinted car and being hauled by Mumbai police for the crime. He also keenly follows what happens back home in the North East and fancies his chance of becoming Meghalaya's CM one day. CMs are changed every 6 month in the state and he is hopeful that at this rate his chances are bright. When not working Mike loves listening to Bob Dylan croon. He boasts of the entire collection of Bob Dylan's Album. These days he also slogs out at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi on the weekends with the intention of acquiring MBA degree he thinks will help in number crunching better. Mike also wants to write one day. Big deal! Everybody wants to be a writer but no one wants to write.
