Independence Day Speech

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Each Independence Day our Prime Minister and Pakistan's PM talk a lot about security, fighting terrorism and fruitful dialogue. Historically, it has only gotten worse. Day by day the blame game has become a mere excuse to get away from the responsibility of having to end this. Exchange of dossiers does not seem to end. It is even more difficult to imagine the reason behind Pakistan's inaction when all evidence is in plain sight. It's like they (and we) are saying, "Yes I have pulled the trigger, but I don't know where the bullet had gone." And what exactly is India waiting for? Are we still waiting for the day when Pakistan will admit openly that they are the culprits and every attack has been executed from their soil? If this is what we are waiting for then we might as well be ready to face another....

BJP...Wake up!!

12IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

What a remarkable result the 2009 election has given this country! Surprise was the common emotion to every politician, whether they won or lost. The media did predict that the UPA will come to power, but not that confidently. Even the winning Congress was shocked to grab 205 seats on its own. On the other hand, the BJP received a huge jolt as this time their performance was worse than the last Lok Sabha's. What exactly went wrong with them, may take time to figure out. So many people predicted a hung assembly that the BJP felt confident; in spite of their internal clashes and ideological differences. First Arun Jaitley was highly upset with Rajnath Singh over the Sudhanshu (tentwallah) Mittal issue. There were those in the party not in favour of Advani as PM. Narendra Modi too, smartly sent the message (through Ambani) that he can....

Lessons from a shoe

3IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Jairnal Singh's throwing a shoe at Chidambaram has raised too many issues. Media ethics, anti-Sikh riots. Almost every media house and politician has blamed this act of the journalist. Politicians didn't like it but the way they put their views forward, (BJP and SP) proves that they are trying to gain political mileage. Almost everyone said that they condemn this act of Jairnal Singh, but also linked it to the emotions of 1984 Sikh Riot victims. Everyone knew that condemning Jarnail Singh alone might cost them Sikh votes given that the election is only about a month away. This issue has once again raised the spectre of 1984 riots for Congress, and more specifically, for Jagdish Tytler who has not only got a clean chit from CBI, but also has ticket to to the polls. Now this incident has forced the Congress to reconsider the decision of....

Indo-Pak vs Terrorism?

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

India and Pakistan are facing big problems. Both are badly hit by terrorism. It seems they are competing with each other, facing terrorist attacks and boasting about having worst attacks. Pakistan has claimed that the attack on the Lahore police camp is similar to the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. India, in its turn, has denied this comparison. I just wanted to ask one question. Is this the reason for which we got separated? If you will listen to the experts -- the economists and the analysts -- they say that both countries have the potential to become superpowers. But I don't see anyone speaking of tackling terrorism. Everyone is coming up with a different solution and no one knows how to execute them. In fact, both countries have made terrorism a big political agenda. It seems as if without terrorism politicians have nothing to fight over. In Pakistan....

IPL vs Election

5IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

IPL vs Election The much anticipated Indian Premier League has finally found its venue -- South Africa. Putting an end to a long debate between the UPA government and BCCI over organizing IPL during election, Lalit Modi made a mid way. But this has become a central point of argument for politicians. They have found it very good election masala. On the one hand BJP and other political parties made a huge hue and cry and blamed the UPA government for failing to organise this big cricket drama (IPL) in India. On the other the Congress raised the issue of security concerns. The decision of Lalit Modi might have disappointed the cricket fans of India, but somewhere down the line it can be said that the UPA government has taken the right step. We can still remember the Mumbai tragedy that took place during England's tour to....

Varun yeh tune kyun kiya?

2IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

These days Varun Gandhi is in the limelight. Everyone knows the reasons. The whole of media and the election commission is after him. What will happen to him? No one knows. But he might pay a huge price for his derogatory remarks. On the one hand the Congress is in full flow to reap the benefits from his debacle and on the other BJP is on the defensive trying to distance itself from the whole controversy. But has anyone thought why Varun Gandhi did such a foolish thing? Especially when the election is not far away? He is not a child. He knew well what he said and that too in a public speech. His speech proves the level of cutthroat competition necessary to survive inside a national party like the BJP. Let's agree that Varun stands practically nowhere near his cousin Rahul Gandhi. Have a....
