Karnataka Express: The big fight for 28 seats
After a great deal of cat-and-mouse game among the three principal political parties for fielding the 'right' candidates, the battle lines are almost drawn for the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The three-way polarisation of voting will be so sharp that unlike neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Karnataka may again find that it will be filling the numbers in Parliament without a decisive say or share of power in the next government. Having captured power in Karnataka for the first time on its own, the BJP's mascot Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is under pressure to deliver more than 18 seats the party won in 2004. If it was the 'Vajpayee wave' which helped the BJP to do unexpectedly well last time, the party is banking on incumbency now to capture as many seats as possible. Do-or-die battle For the 124-year-old Congress party, it is a do-or-die....
