Another Osama: will natural resources be a reason?
Beaming all over the Indian media is the Pakistan flag freshly branded 'the suspect state', after the much rejoiced and equally condemned Osama killing. Pakistan, with the second largest Muslim population in the world, is also a perfect haven to the famous hardliners the world has seen. This country is listed as one of the most dangerous regions in the world. With the economy dependent on support and the strings of governance being pulled from elsewhere, the state sometimes has to oblige to favors by weighing the odds. Islam is the fastest growing religion and also strong enough to steer way for its people. They coincidentally also hold their homes atop the global black treasure called Petroleum. Hence their lives are prone to drones or foreign forces controlling them. The price that they pay comes in the form of casualties in or around their household, making them....
MJ's death and conspiracy theory!
Every time somebody important passes away, there is always speculation. More often than not these are reactions by people trying to overcome the shock. When you reflect on it, the underlying aspect of it is the fear in people who want to convince themselves that they are on earth forever. Too many people think of security rather than opportunity, more people seem to be afraid of life than death - James F Bymes I like the concept of DEATH; it is truly an intellectual concept - Steve Jobs (during his speech to a bunch of students passing out of Harvard Business School) In spite of all the quotes and people claiming they are not frightened of death, the truth always seem to be otherwise. Like Steve Jobs mentioned during his aforementioned speech, he says "Even those who want to go to heaven, don't want to die to....
Indians will never know what recession is
Every news report has something credible to say about recession these days; I always refer to India from a different perspective. You will only hear how the global recession and how it is affecting us; however you will never hear about India going through recession. (I agree; we are a young economy, which only opened up to the world in 1992) Here is one reason why our economy will do well. (There are plenty of reasons which we will explore one at a time; this article will explore one of those unspoken factors of our economy). Please see the list of National holidays in 2009 Indian Holiday Calendar 2010 JAN 01 Friday New Year 04 Monday Muharam (Al Hijra) 05 Tuesday Guru Govind Singh Jayanti 14 Thursday Tamil New year, Pongal, Makar Sankranti 20 Wednesday Basanta Panchami 26 Tuesday Republic Day FEB 12....
IPL Controversy — Friends of foes
The past always dawns on you especially sooner if you are influential, powerful or have a lot of bling. The controversy between Lalit Modi and Shashi Tharoor has been brewing for a few days now. All in the name of the IPL stash. The IPL is a rendezvous of sorts and not based on a Team Rendezvous. One of India's most successful franchises, the IPL has become a treat for our cricket-hungry country. The IPL owes its success to the persistence, determination and idea of Lalit Modi. With premier league teams being fancied by the wealthy and affluent, who have a look for the game and for cash it brings in, the stakes are high. The personalities involved in the spite, have had a commendable run in their respective walks of life. When at a time political king makers held the game, Modi paved....
Road Con-sense
India is a nation which has the laws by the book. However, there are several which are written by our own people. This is to either to entice some self or to prove superiority or just for convenience or is it just because our police force is not competent (subject to debate) or not enough in number. Post-1995, with spending power hitting a high, the modest and humble turned flamboyant and arrogant. Suddenly there was a need to establish a foothold. The revision of loan procedures simplified, to an extent where bank professionals began begging on the phone for giving a loan or an executive trailing you on the road for a credit card. With this houses and cars were considered main targets. Then the not-so-busy hundred-feet road brimmed with traffic and demanded flyovers. Then the ever-closed eye of the law became even blinder instead of getting....
Cruiser CRUIZE: Chevy’s New Baby
Of late, General Motors has been on a market recovery mode, offering service where no carmakers have gone, a three-year or 100000-kilometre warranty. First of all you would like to go back to the Chevy dealership again unlike a Ford or a VW, because of the pleasant atmosphere and the courteous staff who make you feel at home. Then you would like to take a look at Chevy's new baby the Cruize. The Chevrolet Cruize is unlike other Chevy models - a Korean by design but the front reminds you a vintage growler driven by Mel Gibson in one of his movies. The engine is a 2-litre 2000-cc VCDi also available in the Optra Magnum. Emits on the raw power of a 150 BHP engine and throws out 370 Nm of torque. So this is quite the car you want to get your hands....
The power of religion
When we first learnt religions in school we were educated on the main religions and whom they worshiped. What struck my fancy was when my teacher listed "atheism" as a religion and said that this was practised by people who were not associated with any religion or rather did not believe in religion. I wondered for quite a few years and ridiculed the idea in my mind. With technology questioning the basic rules of religion, atheism was imaginable. One day while I was pondering over the existence of God, a wise man came up to me and quizzed me on my thoughts. He did not have a direct answer to my questions however he quizzed me in return asking, "Have you seen or felt God", my reply was an obvious "NO". He said if I haven't seen or felt the divine force, why did I believe it existed.....
Education through home schooling, an experiment
The rising fees, the astronomical donations, the lack of individual attention, the sky rocketing cost for extra tuitions, the lack of time for extra curricular activities, obesity, the sedentary lifestyle right from the start, etc--all these lead me to question the educational system in our country and where our Gen-X is heading to. When people come over to your house or if you catch up with people to lounge your weekend with, the most common line you hear is "when we were young". This statement is always seconded by negativity over the present situation of our kids and their education. Gone are the days that you could tell your kids that you worked your lives off for them because your kids seem to be busier than you. You start your day by going work and end it in the evening by unwinding with a drink,....
