My magical date with designer Sabyasachi
Here we are, talking about the last day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week that was high on many things besides fashion including drama, good music, bad music, great clothes, not-so-great people, some newfound friends, bumping into old ones, lounge parties, great company and much more. Sharing gossip during lunch, smoke or a glass of wine had become a habit to most of us. Strangers became friends and everyone let their guard down as they opened up and exchanged notes on how life is on the other side of this multi-faceted industry. Life at fashion week is like an unknown zephyr. Every moment brings with it some mixed feelings and yet enchants you like never before. Day five started late. Lesser shows, lesser people in the beginning. And then it builds into this humongous cloud of crowds swarming the venue, buyers and designers making the last....
Waiting for Kolkata's magic-weaver Sabyasachi
As the weekend started, one could feel the increase in numbers of visitors at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. I couldn't walk two strides without being jostled around by those who seem lost at fashion's current destination. The last leg of the week, as expected, gets more busy, crowded and hectic. Music once again floored me. Starting from the dreamy 'kesariya balam' to techno beats, day 4 turned out a foot tapping one for me. One could see people loosen up a bit, even though, most complained about the collections that were nowhere autumn-like and the colours could be worn in Miami alone. Rimizim Dadu's show was one of the most entertaining and the clothes made sense. Proceeded to the 'chaat' stalls outside the venue after the event. Don't have to repeat why. Couldn't bear the sad food anymore! Even the 'chaat' stalls are....
Day 3 of fashion week and monotony is setting in
We are halfway through the fashion week and monotony was setting in. I saw the same faces, similar tired expressions as many burnt the midnight oil to finish stories and ran all over the venue for bytes. While chatting up with some new found friends, I discovered I wasn't alone. The shows were more-or-less on time, but I could see how the front rowers are now getting fidgety, they walk out in the middle of the show, Yes! Please explain why? Anyway the PR brigade is so hell bent on the name tags pasted on the stands and some people would kill for the coveted front row. It's comical to see the tamasha over and over again. C'mon guys, you can smile and be polite! Music can be a disaster too. I discovered the wrong way yesterday. In this particular show, there was none, Just some screeching sounds....
No talking on the first row please!
After the enthusiasm and adrenaline rush of day 1 at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, day 2 began on a tad less happy note. The shows started really late and the crowds got pushier. Newbie designer Ankita got the audience asking for more and left many of her seasoned colleagues various shades of green. The most peculiar thing that happened to me was sitting next to some of the socialites in one of the shows. It was such an OMG experience! They continued to chatter away even after the show started. As models appeared on ramp, one could sense the attention wasn't on the clothes, but the lost youth. Some even had loud comments to make. Sigh. Pardon my crabby mood but isn't it annoying when people (in the front row) noisily chew gum? Ooof. Please spare us the horror. Music was....
It's chaos at fashion week and I'm loving it!
The first day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is over and I'm ready to hang up stilettos! The venue (Pragati Maidan) seems to have amassed all the glamour from the country as the week is thrown open to models, designers, fashionistas and the who's who from the industry. The regulars from the media are sniffing around for the hot stuff and you could mistake some of them for models. And then there are those who claim the rights to the front row by virtue of their being first and second cousin's of the stalwarts. It was 'Hit me baby one more time' for people like me who have been seeing the tamasha over the years. Gawky uncles who refuse to switch off the flash of their mobile phones as they click photos of models on the ramp to the wolf-whistling paparazzi, there is....
Women's Day: The Lipstick Jungle
Matching my shoes to the bag every morning as I rush to step out for work is a chore that I perform almost fanatically. Even though most of us would not want to admit, fashion is always at the back of our mind. Love it or hate it, fashion is a vital component of every woman's life. You don't need Jimmy Choos or Pradas to make you a sinner. I think I ran into an angel who was oh-so inclined towards fashion while I was on my way to school and since then this is an indulgence I can never get enough of: the touch of silk, the shine of pearls or the feel of leather. You can swipe plastic with your manicured hands at a boutique or bargain your lungs out on the streets - the thought of how to wear and what to match always....

More about Kanika Mehta
Busy juggling her many hats when she isn’t stalking Lady GaGa’s social life on the internet. Hovers around the lifestyle beat a tad more often than she ought to. Guilty pleasures are coffee, chocolate and Bollywood kitsch (but do read the warning on the label before you combine the three). Kanika is saving up for a couture vacation. The team's favourite chatterbox, she can go on and on about movies and liqour.
