Can Narendra Modi fulfill people's wishes

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

The new government has to face many challenges and fulfilling wishes of the aspirational class is one of the main challenges of the "Modi Sarkaar". After an overwhelming support the BJP leader thanks to his image of a development agent and his famous campaign war cry 'Ache din aane wale hain'! Modi could be compared to Aladdin's magic lamp. Everyone is expecting the PM to cast a spell and help them out from the doom and gloom. And this is not going to be an easy task. In his first emotional speech in Parliament he clearly stated that in 2019 he would present a report card so that people can assess his performance - a sign that he is eying 2019 already. Narendra Modi has made many electoral promises to resolve problems like internal security and terrorism, it will be interesting to see how Mr Modi takes....

Dhoni's captaincy under cloud

2IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

The Indian cricket team captain M S Dhoni has forgotten his winning ways and spirit, it seems. He has started losing the battle of late. It was under his captaincy that we won the inaugural ICC World Twenty 20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup 2011 held in India. We were even at no 1 position in Test cricket. We were on a roll in all the three forms of cricket under his hegemony but a decline has now started. Recently, we lost the ODI series against our arch rival Pakistan despite his good performance. We lost the Test series to England last year. In 2012, ICC T-20 World Cup, we couldn't perform well and the West Indies won the cup. In all three formats of cricket we are far behind from the position we were once, when the going was good. Team India's top....

Sachin's retirement from ODIs marks the end of an era

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has decided not to play One Day cricket any more. He will continue rendering his services to cricket in the form of Test appearances. Just moments before the selectors were to name the squad for the series against Pakistan, Tendulkar informed the Board's President about his decision. He leaves behind a colossal record that will be virtually impossible for future generations to break. It's the end of an era. Twenty three years back, a young Tendulkar made his debut in Gujranwala against Pakistan and rest, as we all know, is history. In India, cricket is religion and Sachin has been our god. India has very few sports legends like Milkha Singh in athletics, Dhyan Chand in hockey and Sachin in cricket. He has been and always will be a precious gem of our country. Sachin Tendulkar re-defined the art of opening One Day....

A visit to India International Trade Fair

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

I still remember my first visit to the trade fair. That was when I was in the third standard. I had visited the fair with my dad and mom in 1993. We went to a toy pavilion. we saw so many toys but I liked one small guitar. There was a mad rush on that day; there was no place to stand. We couldn't buy the guitar and when we came out of the pavilion, I started crying. I told my dad that I wanted that guitar and threw all the tantrums that a child can. My dad went back inside, purchased that guitar and came out with it. Finally I got my guitar and I went back home playing a 'tring tring' tune on it. That's how my first trade fair visits ended. When I grew up, I started going to the trade fair with my friends. At....

Battling dengue, the day killer

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

Dengue, the epidemic caused by mosquito bites during the day, has affected all parts of Delhi and many other parts of the country as well. I know many cases myself, in my residential colony and office. I know of some colleagues and some in my colony who have survived the epidemic. Every day, I come across government notices and awareness notifications in newspapers and on television, detailing the measures to be adopted to prevent contraction of dengue. Fumigation is promptly carried out by MCD in my colony - twice a week - but more work needs to be done taking into account the magnitude of the threat. The number of people being admitted to hospitals is increasing every day. Shortage of beds is reported from almost each government hospital across Delhi and has resulted in the rush being diverted to private hospitals. Even private hospitals are finding it difficult....

Windies have won the T20World in Gangnam style but is that enough?

0IBNLive IBNLive Google Buzz

It was a joy to watch the West Indies win a world title after 33 long years; the World T20 win by Sammy and his men surely takes us back to those glorious days of the men from the Caribbeans at least in glimpses. We have seen West Indies team's victory in 1975 and 1979 World Cup under the captaincy of the great Clive Lloyd. But then the slide started with 1983 World cup when the then minnows, India, under Kapil Dev, beat them at the Lords. Much has happened since then in West Indies Cricket. Many greats have come and gone....Brain Lara reigned supreme in a team which craved for more match winners. Windies cricket have passed through some of its worst turmoils ever. Rampant corruption and maladministration even got the players revolting. Finally, the T20 victory could just be the light they need at the....
