Sightseeing with Eyes wide Shut
Call me elitist if you will, but I believe respect for history in specific and people in general needs to be made a prerequisite for entry into historical monuments. There I was in the famed Wodeyar palace grounds in Mysore enjoying and overwhelmed by its grandeur, when 2 tourist buses came to a screeching stop in the parking area. Out tumbled a pack of tourists armed with mobiles, caps, cameras and sunglasses. Rushing to enter the palace, practically elbowing my Mom and me out of the way, onward they rushed in their haste to add 'Mysore Palace' to their list of places visited during the holidays. And I am not being harsh at this point. As I for a fact know that this bunch did not see a thing inside the palace-this with eyes wide open. Yes I can see you snorting with disbelief and saying "Don't Be so judgmental"....
When the Transformer caught fire....
There I was waiting for my pick-up to come at 10:30 pm( I'm in the night shift you see), when suddenly I hear the distinct sounds of "Snap, crackle, pop"... Fire??? You guessed right..I rush to my verandah and am greeted by the not-so -happy sight of the huge transformer in front of my house enveloped in fire... Ok I'm exaggerating..It was a small blaze, but hello it was a transformer after all. I've noticed that fire has something extremely hypnotic about it( No, I'm not suicidal or touched in the head{and while i'm at it who says touched in the head anymore anyway????})...Ok to get back, I spent a few minutes gazing at the fire, what started out as a tiny spark in one of the cables , grew to three seperate mini-blazes, then it dripped(It looked like it was dripping) onto the dry grass below... Cut to blaze....
Super- powered humans!!!
I have always been fascinated by superheroes..always wanted to have a secret power...always wished that I could fly or become invisible or at the very least know awesome action moves... But eyes-screwed-up, clasped hands prayers for special powers dont always come true... Good only, like they say here... 'cos somehow I think India's not ready for a superhero... " What do you mean?" , you may ask..."We have had Shaktimaan", you say...but thats about it... Can you honestly see a Superman or a Spiderman roaming the streets of Delhi or Mumbai rescuing people in peril? I cant and thats probably why our first high profile indigeneous screen super hero Krrish has decided to debut on the streets of Singapore and not India... And this is why I think Krrish chose Singapore... (No, its not because the Singapore tourism Board paid big bucks to Rakesh Roshans' FilmKraft Productions...thats just one of....
