The fact is, when most of us buy a computer at the store, we pay not just for the electronic hardware, but also for the Operating System (OS) software that makes the hardware work. Most of us use the Windows OS, and a genuine, latest version of Windows 7 costs upto twelve grand. What if you got an OS, that does everything Windows can. For Free. Tempting? But of course - most of us don't buy genuine software. Slip five hundred rupees to your friendly neighborhood computerwala and he'll come home and install a pirated version of Windows for you, won't he? Yes. But tech gurus say such pirated copies come pre-packaged with all sorts of computer viruses. And of course, once you're on the net - it's full of viruses designed with lots of love, to wreck PCs that run on Windows.....

Indo-Pak schizophrenia over IPL

Indo-Pak cricket, like diplomatic relations between the two countries, suffers from acute schizophrenia. Rewind to January 1999 when a Chennai crowd gave a standing ovation to Wasim Akram's men after they had just beaten India. Six months later, the two countries met again in a world cup match against the backdrop of the Kargil war and fans of both sides abused each other. In 2004, we were treated to a Pakistani crowd singing, "Balaji, zara dheere chalo" every time the Tamil Nadu fast bowler ran in to bowl. Eight years earlier, I had watched a Karachi crowd hurl bottles on the field when their team lost to India in a dramatic last over. Two years ago, Sohail Tanveer was the toast of the inaugural IPL after starring in Rajasthan Royals surprise triumph. Education through home schooling, an experiment

The rising fees, the astronomical donations, the lack of individual attention, the sky rocketing cost for extra tuitions, the lack of time for extra curricular activities, obesity, the sedentary lifestyle right from the start, etc--all these lead me to question the educational system in our country and where our Gen-X is heading to. When people come over to your house or if you catch up with people to lounge your weekend with, the most common line you hear is "when we were young". This statement is always seconded by negativity over the present situation of our kids and their education. Gone are the days that you could tell your kids that you worked your lives off for them because your kids seem to be busier than you. You start your day by going work and end it in the evening by unwinding with a drink,....
