The Week That Wasn't @ 150!
To understand the idea of The Week that Wasn't, we have to travel back a few years to about the pre-Mohenjodaro and Harappa period. This was a difficult time for television for many reasons. For one, there was no electronic media. In fact, there wasn't even any print media; just sexual comments on low-cost housing walls, and above all Rakhi Sawant hadn't been invented or put together by surgeons, whichever came first.
Let's now move on a few years to the actual birth of the show. This happened due to the union of two important units, Rajdeep Sardesai (Editor-in-chief, IBN18 Network) and four glasses of vodka. This led to a chemical equation which caused Rajdeep to alter his fluent thought process for a little while. In that few minutes Rajdeep ordered three things: (a) Wonton soup (b) A plate of honey fried chicken (c) And a political and news spoof. Two of these he regretted immediately, though it must be said that till today he continues to be a big fan of the soup.
Next came finding the right men for the job. None of them were available so he settled for Kunal and myself, along with a little more soup. Now, a word about Kunal Vijayakar and Cyrus Broacha. Kunal has years of experience as an investigative journalist. He has 4 award-winning features entitled (a) Are all penguins gay? (b) Did Hitler wear undercover? (c) Who is God's mother? (d) Who came first -- Babar or the egg?
Since Rajdeep had not seen any of these, he decided to go with Kunal. After asking 147 actors and hosts all who said 'No', Cyrus was chosen as 'the anchor'. His claim to fame included a 325-pound bench press, a letter of recommendation from his father and 3 Labrador puppies called Einstein, Newton, and Archimedes.
The two, then artfully committed to use their originality to the fullest. This they did by stealing ideas from the Jon Stewart show, Conan O'Brien, David Letterman as well as Sanjeev Kapoor's Khana Khazana.
Now, after 150 episodes of The Week That Wasn't nobody even remembers Mohenjadaro Harappa or Rakhi Sawant. We the Literary Society of Kanjurmarg East, salute the The Week That Wasn't on 150 episodes "may they do a thousand more".
