It always makes my heart swell with pride when we are called a big Muslim population nation-a fact that many of us sometimes seem to forget. We are the third biggest Muslim nation in the world, far ahead of Iraq or Iran or Afghanistan or Malaysia or Bangladesh or Saudi Arabia.
But it is also a fact that scares many. They are the ones who project the infirmities of a few Muslims on to a whole community. A population that is inherently Indian. That is what makes India India, and that is what made India.
Talk about terrorism and the modus operandi is simple. The ones who have the larger picture in mind, the ones who are devious and could have any one amongst several objectives in mind: weaken India's economy, slow down India's rise to big power status, get India's democracy to falter, make its people fight one another, direct its realignment to certain powers.
Terrorists do not believe in the ideology of religions: they believe in selfish motives, professional or political. And they tap into age-old latent fears.
Those who act out terror - call them the instruments - happen to be shown the small picture. And that picture fits religion into a hallucinatory jigsaw solved for them. They are people with wants, desires, anger, sadness, strengths and weaknesses. Like you and like me. And the handlers tackle each one of these sentiments to their advantage.
Make them desire the greatness of certain elements of their faith, make them want to be famous, notorious, well known. Make them angry against the other as there is always a sample of crime against a community that can be magnified to make it appear universal, make them sad at instances of loss that their community has suffered, tap the strength of their youth and their skills, and make up for their weaknesses by giving them power - weapons, money, training, confidence and a group to belong to. And then show them a direction. Now repeat this heady mix over and over again. Till it becomes a way of life for them. And then make them live the life. Make them doers. And they do - over and over again. And they have done it again. In Mumbai.
They are to blame. For sure. For they did not have the rationale to be wiser, to see through the haze that was created around them. Punish them hard. But don't stop at that. That is where we as a nation have faltered, time and again. Not tracking back far enough to where it all begins. To the power centres whose operatives live in opulence, plan big and smart.
They are the ones who breed terror. And they put a whole gulf of buffer between themselves and the terror instruments in widening arcs that are highly sophisticated, educated, suave, selfish and dishonest close to the power centres themselves and gradually lose sophistication and increase in extremism and base feelings towards the periphery. The terrorists that we see are at the periphery. The real terrorists are far removed and will always remain powerful and smug till we figure out how to get at them. Get to them.
The logic of terror in India is simple. Carry out a terror strike with suitably prepared Muslim terrorists. The names will jump out sooner or later. The government will be called weak. Opposition political groups will demand stronger laws. Those laws will lead to arrests, roundups, detentions and torture by an untrained section of the law enforcers. Again mostly of Muslims. This will again prove the original premise that the state, that India, is against the Muslims. A few disgruntled youth will again be ready to be recruited to carry forward the agenda of teaching the state , India - a lesson. Once again there will be reprisals and the cycle shall repeat itself. Over and over, till India begins to erode, wear out, die.
There will be instances when the bigger innocent population will be caught up in the crossfire. And when they shall try to make sense of it, try and come to terms with their loss and grief, the recruiters will be ready with their brand of explanations. And the recruiters will recruit to all sorts of groups. Muslim fundamentalist, Hindu fundamentalist and mushrooming new entities. The power centres will drive the Mercs and live in the world's finest, while the instruments will put on the backpacks and wear Versace emblazoned T Shirts and gun down innocents.
While terror in Mumbai was underway 'The Economist' commented: Its assailants, still holed up in the city, would like nothing better than to provoke a backlash against Muslim inhabitants-which in turn would help to radicalise India's vast Muslim minority. Long after India's commandos have killed or captured the last of the terrorists that is how they would still hope to win.
Let's break the cycle. Let's get smarter.

All you need is two prong attack on Pakis' US from the west going after Bin Ladin and India from East taking out terror centers. This has to be concerted effort with such unforseen force. You are very right jyoti, you have precisely specified terrorism, terrorist and the terror or the instrument.But these observations are not new we know the whole cycle but can we put an end to it? History says no. Indians face terrorism day in and day out with blasts happening in one or the other state every other month.We are sitting ducks and our leadership -old sitting ducks. We have to be precise and swift in our action. The perpetrator is well evident and the reason too- deal a blow to the country's financial hub and the rest will take care of itself.Now the ball is in the court of the Old Sitting Ducks can they take a decisive action against the country that thrives on terrorism or shall we say force Pakistan to close down all the terrorist camps and handover those wanted by India. keep fooling urself. Instead of finding reason in the overall widespread fundamentalism of the religions and ppl professing them. Which is for everybody to see. Honestly speaking, when I saw the title "Logic of terror", I never expected that your assessment would be so perfectly in line with the actual facts and occurrences around the globe.
Let me share something with you, I am an Indian, an Indian Muslim, brought up in surroundings where I always had friends from all backgrounds, all religions...in fact, I am finding it hard to recall at this moment which of my friend belong to which community as it was never a point to even take a notice.
I adore the culture of India, we have celebrated all festivals together, played Holi together, burst crackers on Diwali together, played Santa-Santa on Christmas eves...
It goes without saying that the terror strikes in the country should not be linked to any section in the society, it definitely is a "strategic plan" for a larger motive. Motive to destabilize the nation, creating anarchy, a civil war situation, all of which eventually weakens our democracy.
Unfortunately, the impact of such horendous acts are further integrated by extremist voices inside our country.
No matter which form of extremist appraoch is propagated, it is the nation that suffers.
Frankly, I cannot imagine India becoming an Islamic nation out of force, that is perhaps the worst thing that can happen to our country. Same with India going on and becoming a Hindu Rashtra with extremist ideas taking over the constitution.
Our current problems are actually more serious than meets the eye, we have a great challenge of saving the nation not just politically, but socially and culturally as well.
Somehow, we need moderate and liberal voices to be heard ahead of a "sentimental divisive slogan".
Also, I strongly feel that we Indians collectively fail to understand the meaning of the term PATRIOTISM. It remains confined to the cheer that we give to our cricketers when they perform well in a match or the whistling done while watching a war film in a theatre.
Hightime we realize how much the nation is in need of us, how we can collectively be a force to combat terrorism and extremism of all kinds.

In search of chances for global peace
This is a global war against terror. From 9/11 to 26/11 this planet of human abode is ashamed of its failure to curb demoniac force. The terrorism unleash catastrophes and relishes its victory over human blood. This globe has shown enough mercy and compassion toward terrorism. But this long restraint has sent a wrong signal to this evil force. The terrorists think we are really weak and spineless. Though they know they will never succeed to their goal but they can try hitting lives, bringing disaster, Damaging private properties. They think they are doing some jihad ( religious glorious act, the world spit on them) and double standard their patronisers are within us, come forward for them with plea of mercy. The masked people should be sort out, and mark them in public.
How long it will take to eliminate this cancerous growth of the disease for this planet? We common men are made of flesh and blood. We can not restrain ourselves from being struck time and again, our calmness, coolness and priceless patience has definite limit. If government forces, world leaders , big human right forces, institutions can not bring solutions, meaningful peace to protect each and every peace loving human souls let us give licenses to kill attackers and eliminate terrorists.
I am not against any race , colour, religion and other human values of common. I am against only all forms of terrorism. We believe we have power, we shall not attack, not allow attackers on us, to remain on our stand if our message of love fails than we can DO what IT EXACTLY DEMANDS. We are the victims of Terror mongers.
We still believe that our heart is humble enough, we have respect to all creeds, race, religion and other human values, and when we are in public we do not stand tall than others. Our respect for mutual relation is equal, and we stand colourful harmoniously in solidarity of human kind. But when you come in public and you boast your religion, race, colour, ethnicity etc are taller than other -- it means you are violating civic codes and norms, you are the root of evil. We are strong enough to weed out evil at least for the sake of mass and stop play havoc.
Let us consider (if needs be) sacrifice one to save thousand. We want license for arms to protect ourselves. We understand the use and responsibility of arms.
Let peace be fully armed to protect its modesty. We have respect for love. Love can yield fruits of paradise. But we also know no seed grow on rock, and seedlings have conditions of germination. You need the right climax on right track. You never go to wild beasts with out proper security and never ever preach love and non violence to wild animals.
Terrorists have no name , no relation, they are beasts of hell. Shoot them at sight. Who prevents you mark them, watch them they are double standard. As soon as you find them are terrorist eliminate, then and forever.
Today, it is clear who are terrorists, a few decades in past has documents who they are, from which religion they descended, which religion they practice and preach, which countries support them , where they find the resources, who are their helpers. The whole world spit on terrorism and on its very roots. The share also divided by their brotherhood. I hope history repeats. The religion will be destroyed by their own demoniac creature unless their own people curb and control. Do you remember Frankenstein, who created the monster! Some religious leaders are playing Frankenstein. They are defeated time and again, still they are with their evil design,
with thirst of blood. Vampires. The religion supports them I donât think the major part are proud when they feel the heat from global index fingers. If they want their lives be secured they should come clean doing some exemplary action and confession in public .
Mr Qureshi of Pakistan and other ministers of Pakistan, You may close your eyes and see none, all your expression say in other words that you are guilty and supporters of this most hatred crime against India and humanity. You may be under the pressure of your crime generating religious and political leaders, but we expect you should have least honesty with your neighbouring country. You sold yourself to other countries many times in past in the name of eliminating Taliban and al-queada. You deceived them. You are doing business in the name of curbing terrorism. You have rented your soil to criminals that attacked India time and again. From 1993 we have definite proof that you acted like cunning jackals. Your words and deed never match. You close eyes everytime a raising pointed finger of global allegations towards you. Andt it fuels anger in double. We are frustrated by your ISI activities and underhand connected with terrorism. You people are provoking the common people of the globe to resort for counter violence. We donât expect it from you.
We urge to world leaders to bring a pact of peace and take a stern action against Terrorism eliminating all roots and its sponsored groups. Try to divide intelligently religion and civilized government. Those countries ruled by religion oust them from the pact and peace process, mark them stop them getting benefits from rest of the world. No secular country should allow extra facilities to a religion be it a minor or major. ( let them help if need arises, in different way, never acknowledge any religion above law and supremacy of country, It can keep every one equal in rank)
In Terrorism, you can not deny that religion has no part. It is main root. When you deny you are denying the truth. We must not forget the truth. Taliban and alquida had based religion and its scriptures. And it started ruling with barbaric way of terrorism. Now their path are accepted in all countries wherever that religion exist and spreading terrorism. If we close our eyes we are deceiving our selves. We kept our mouth shut for long and tried to correct themselves but result say we are complete failure. Many years are lost. And how many years shall we be spending under their mercy? We want arms licence to protect ourselves if you world leaders can not eliminate terrorism, give us our human rights back to us. In the name of civilization no one can snatch our right to protect ourselves from enemy when leaders of most are basically selfish and not coordinated, depends on vote bank. we have no more faith on government it fails time and again. And there is no system that assures punishment to corrupted leaders, responsible leaders and government .

Every religious temples. The leaders, preachers , priest that speak alien language, has no respect for its country, that boast its superiority above others, are suspicious. The religious institutions should be monitored by government and security force
