BJP...Wake up!!
What a remarkable result the 2009 election has given this country! Surprise was the common emotion to every politician, whether they won or lost.
The media did predict that the UPA will come to power, but not that confidently. Even the winning Congress was shocked to grab 205 seats on its own. On the other hand, the BJP received a huge jolt as this time their performance was worse than the last Lok Sabha's. What exactly went wrong with them, may take time to figure out.
So many people predicted a hung assembly that the BJP felt confident; in spite of their internal clashes and ideological differences.
First Arun Jaitley was highly upset with Rajnath Singh over the Sudhanshu (tentwallah) Mittal issue. There were those in the party not in favour of Advani as PM. Narendra Modi too, smartly sent the message (through Ambani) that he can be the next PM. Allies left, and the so called NDA was left with a few BJP and few small parties, thanks to Nitish Kumar for remaining with BJP. The most shocking news came when Orissa's BJD, one of the BJP's oldest allies, dumped them just a few months before the general election. Jaitley had said that this will cost the BJD and the people of Orissa will throw Naveen Pattnaik out of power. The exact opposite of that happened.
One thing has been cleared up -- you can not play politics over what happened 10 or 15 years back. People of India have proved that politicians can no longer fool them by playing regressive politics. They simply want development. The so-called caste equation formula is not going to work anymore. Thank India for not choosing a party which only knows how to blame others even after defeat. It's high time for the BJP to accept defeat and stop playing politics over the Ram Mandir issue. Become modern and learn from Rahul Gandhi. It's because of him that the Congress has done so well in a BJP dominated state -- Gujarat.
One may feel pity for Advani as his last chance of becoming PM has vanished. But this is his punishment for what he did in Ayodhya. Modi may be next. No doubt, he has done good work in Gujarat, but it is time he came forward and embraced accountability. Show the guts that you can do well without playing Hindutva politics. Most of all, the BJP's use of Vajpayee's images without embracing his ideals spoke volumes about the party's disconnect from reality.
Time to do some housecleaning.
