So much in the name of change
Post 26/11 young Mumbaikars stood up outside the Taj with candles and posters, each one who mattered and is heard was on the panel of talk shows, media asked questions, all this was done because it was time people wanted to live fearlessly so they wanted some constructive change! Yes we did say that we need CHANGE but what we meant was for better! When people said that its time for heads to roll they meant that we deserve better leaders, those who could lead us, secure us, help us, work towards progress of the city and the state and answer us! And one week later when the anger is settling down we have an anti climax Chhagan Bhujbal replaces R R Patil and Ashok Chavan replaces Vilasrao Deshmukh. WOW so much in the name of change!
A quick reminder, Chhagan Bhujbal started his political career with Shiv Sena, fell out of the party in 1991 and now is with NCP, Oops now is our Deputy Chief Minster! Same Bhujbal who was the Deputy CM in the first Congress NCP government he had to step down from his post after his name was linked to the multi crore Telgi scam. Now he will try and lead us once again. So do not be surprised if ten years from now Vilasrao Deshmukh reappears as our Chief Minister once again.
Pranab Mukherjee and A K Anthony announced that our new CM is Industry Minster Ashok Chavan, son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister S B Chavan. I don't have anything good or bad to say about him because honestly he has never made his presence felt, in fact I have interviewed Chavan many years back, he had less to talk about at that time. But if he had said something that would make an impact I would remember it.
Many will say that I have become cynical and am not even giving these leaders a chance to prove that they can get change. Who am I to not give them a chance? What say did someone like me have when Bhujbal and Chavan chosen for such responsible posts. My only input was when I cast my vote the last time and trusted the Congress government to do better.
Whether I like it not but our CM and his deputy have all the time to prove themselves, now we all sit back and wait to see their actions, fortunately now these men know that they are being watched, they will never forget what happened to those who they have replaced.
We always ask why not have young leaders? But where are the young leaders? By the time Rahul Gandhi, Omar Abdullah, Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Milind Deora reach a position where they lead the country they will be yesteryears politicians. The next generation will ask the same question, why not have young politicians?
If change has to happen it should happen NOW! If young leaders should take over they should take over NOW! NOW is the time we need them. Not later in the day, not tomorrow.
