The Indian in Me
The Indian in me...
The Indian in me wants to see India shine,
But then I realize that the country is probably not mine;
India belongs to the Kalmadis, the politicians, the rich and the strong,
Who despite their proven corruption live happily and are on a song;
India belongs to the dynasties, the Gandhis, and the youth icon,
Who despite any significant contribution to India is already anointed as our future PM;
India belongs to the "seculars" who prefer one religion over another,
Who create fissures in the society by spitting venom against each other;
India belongs to the ruling party, the bureaucrats, and the CBI,
Who can misuse power at will without any hue and cry!!!
The Indian in me wants to see India united,
But then I realize that our motherland is actually divided;
Where love for caste, region, or religion is more than the love for India,
And where divisive issues are blatantly exploited by our pseudosecular media;
Where MNS workers beat the UPites and Biharis as if they are terrorists from Pakistan,
And where our brothers from northeast India are still wondering if they belong to Hindustan;
Where there still exists the great North Indian-South Indian divide;
And where pride for one's state and language is more than the national pride!!!
The Indian in me wants to see India rise on the global platform,
But then I realize that our foreign policy blunders are becoming a norm;
Where our FM is publicly humiliated in front of world press,
And where our PM's policy of "talks with Pakistan" is in deep mess;
Where our self interests are compromised more often than not;
And where our subservience to US is increasingly becoming a national blot;
Where Jairam Ramesh criticizes his own government in hostile Chinese terrain,
And where our PM's hurry for nuclear deal seems more for his legacy than for India's gain!!!
The Indian in me wants to see India safe and strong;
But then I realize our internal security policies are all but wrong;
Where an ally of Government shamelessly supports Maoists violence,
But still our PM and future PM maintain their frustrating silence;
Where stricter laws to counter terrorism are vote bank driven;
And where our government's penchant to protect Afzal Guru is a given;
Where Sohrabuddin is anointed a "secular martyr" and victim of anti-minority stance,
And where despite years of backstabbing our government is still ready to give Kashmir separatists another chance;
Despite our corrupt political system and paid media;
The Indian in me is still hopeful of a united and stronger India;
Dear Indians!!! It is we who are responsible and only we can change this trend,
And shape our India of 21st century with happiness of perfect blend!!!
