What's common Between SRK's daughter and Madonna?

Any guesses? Well...

Recently, Shahrukh Khan got a summon from the Jaipur high court for smoking in public at an IPL match.

Déjà vu, ain't it? Can't help but remember that a few years ago, how he was told that smoking was uncool by the then Union health minister Ramadoss, when he was 'caught in the act', again at an IPL match.

And just this February, when an HT survey called him one of the top role models in the country, it was a little girl who asked 'the most sensible question'. None other than SRK's own daughter.

"How can you be the HT survey youth role model if you smoke?" Shahrukh himself tweeted, as his dotty saying. He was apparently reprimanded by the lil' one who wants him to quit smoking.

While one may get awed by the superstar status, I'm rather impressed by his lil' one. Smoking is uncool, she says, and someone who is an addicted smoker, cannot be rated as a top role model in the country. She loves her daddy but she doesn't want the wrong message to go out. She made him say (rather tweet) it aloud- "all the youth out there, please do not smoke".

And if the star-kid Suhaana cried Daddy uncool, just more recently, it was another star-mommy who echoed a rather concerned tut-tut. None another than Madonna.

After pictures of her daughter, Lourdes, smoking with her pals, were snapped by paparazzi in New York, she sharply denounced the 15 yr old for smoking and she seems to blame it somewhat on her own parenting.

"I'm not as tough of a mom as I should be. But cigarette smoking I'm not very fond of - for anyone." She said. Madonna herself quit smoking years ago.

So what do you think about it? On one hand, the 53-year-old goddess of pop declares that gone are the days when star status was about posing with a cig or a cigar. And on the other, India's most-popular-star-kid, declares that an addicted smoker cannot be our role model! Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!

Do you agree it's no longer cool to be smoking? Respond right here or you can also write to me directly at shalini12in@gmail.com.

More about Shalini

Was the kid lost in science books at school, practically lived in the science labs at high school but that love affair diverted to mass media studies during graduation. When you have a combination like that, there plops a health journalist. And after 6 years of work now, she still feels she hasn't talked enough about YOUR health - all that you want to know & need to know on pandemics, major public health concerns (tobacco products must be banned!), new miracle medicines & treatments on the horizon to drugs that should banned here & now…And more importantly, about the people behind these stories. The real reasons, real inspirations. Constantly complains that not everything can be said in a minute & a half. Hence this blog – takes you behind the scenes, beyond the bytes. She loves to cook a good story but once off the screen, can’t cook a thing in the kitchen to save her life. Finds it equally impossible to keep a cupboard/desktop tidy. Is a known bookworm, blog-worm (if that’s a word) & a chai freak!
