The Karnataka porn scandal aftermath

  • I beleive that these things will keep happening as almost 40% of our elected class have criminal backgrounds with several cases pending against them. Is there any way we could churn the eligibility of candidates contesting in elections .. Else we will have to live with this kind of characters.. Asked by: mukund
  • There is a lot that can be done on the electoral front. Various proposals for electoral reforms are pending with the central government for many years. none of our political parties seem to have the political will to implement even a few of the important reforms, especially the ones that deal with the criminality aspects.
  • Greetings Sir.I want to ask where our country is heading?with our own leaders watching porn in the assembly, can we expect a good governance from them? Asked by: abishek
  • We certainly cant expect much from such ministers.
  • What would have been the amount and nature of punishment if the Speaker of the house had taken the action according to IPC? Asked by: sbh
  • I dont think the speaker will invoke the IPC. There are a separate set of rules that govern the conduct of members of the legislature.
  • The judiciary is the greatest hope for the country. Can i as a responsible citizen of this country, file a public interest litigation and appeal to the courts to take stringent action against this shameless ministers, one of whom is responsible for welfare of women and children. Asked by: manoj singhvi
  • In this case, since the incident happened inside the legislative assembly, the speaker is the deciding/disciplining authority. I am not sure whether the courts will entertain any such petition. But you could try.
  • Can you confirm it was porn clip and not a rave party telecast by news channel. The clip is hazy as shown in news channels. There was alleged rave party happening in udupi by karnataka tourism department. Is that true? Asked by: Sudheer
  • I have not seen the original clip. But I understand that the clip has been in circulation for sometime and now. It is , I believe, an indoor scene of a striptease and more. I dont know how you define a 'rave party'. On the island off the Udupi coast a music festival was organised. There are reports that a few of the participants indulged in certain uncivilised acts.
  • These ministers were violated the dignity of the house. They crossed all limits. The speaker who took instant action against independent MLA’s during No-confidence motion against Yedurappa last year. Why he is reluctant at this point of time. When whole world saw them watching prone movie in the assembly discussion. Asked by: vadiraj
  • The speaker himself is under a cloud after the Supreme Court ruling last week, which said, among other things, that the speaker's action was unconstitutional. So, I am not sure you can expect much from someone who is desperately hanging on to his chair after being virtually admonished by the Supreme Court. In my opinion the speaker has lost all moral ground to sit in that chair.
  • Are such persons should be permitted to contest elections? What type of service can public expect from these leaders? Asked by: vadiraj
  • Not only are they contesting, they are also winning their elections! What can you expect? very little!
  • Greetings sir. If the opposition members were caught watching porn clips , will not the government acted swiftly and taken punitive action. why this laxity. How do they try to convince us to vote for them in the lok sabha when elections come. We the people are torn between the devil (read congress ) and the deep sea (bjp). only thing we can do is pray to god to bless this great country. Asked by: manoj singhvi
  • You are right. But I dont that the situation is that hopeless. I think the people of this country need to get angry and react everytime these politicians do something wrong. I am not sure God can do much.
  • Wil this issue finally seal the fate of BJP government in Karnataka, without further help from the governor ?? Asked by: sundar1950in
  • One would have thought that the BJP would have a lesson or two after being forced to change its CM, but it does not look like it. A clear indication of a party and government without a strong leadership.
  • Will this episode be exploited by BSY for staking claim back on the CM's position ? Asked by: sundar1950in
  • All the three ministers who have resigned are known to be close allies of BSY
  • The incident is on the video and so far not alleged as fake or doctored since leaked on same day in the media. Will they claim now that the angular tilt to the camera was placed to give a wrong / disfigured view ?? Asked by: sundar1950in
  • Some of the claims made by one of the ministers in his attempt to justify what he was caught doing in the assembly were so ridiculous, that they could easily make any absurd excuses or accusation.
  • What is the message to the people of their constituencies ? Asked by: A.MISHRA
  • The only message appears to be that the people of the constituency can continue to suffer and the MLAs will just enjoy themselves, that too at the cost of the people.
  • Sir. BJP ,the so called Custodian of Hindu cuture and traditions, are very selective when it comes to the matter of upholding moral values. When ever there is a similar crime commited by other Party members they bay for their blood, and when it comes to them they conveniently escape under the mask of technicalities. The porn gate scandal in karnataka assembly is unheard of in the history of Indian democracy and it is a seroius crime commited by the three BJP ministers . Dont you think that speaker should suspend them as MLA's and not allowed to contest election for the next 10 years Asked by: Aravind.T.R
  • I am of the opinion that the MLAs should be removed from the house.
  • This is kumel from Bangalore. My question is just very simple, If the same thing A COMMON MAN does then want is the punishment for him? I know watching porn is LEGAL in india but then if he watched at same place where you did then? Asked by: Kumel
  • I am not very sure about what the law says. But that has no bearing on what the ministers did in the assembly. remember, they are sitting in the legislative assembly, being paid huge amounts for their time and effort from public funds, with all sorts of perquisites again from the public exchequer to work for the people. we have all heard of the obscene amount of money it costs to conduct these assembly sessions. also there is a sanctity attached to legislature. This has nothing to do with the law that is applicable to the common man.
  • Will Congress benefit in elections post this porn scandal? Asked by: kishen
  • The opposition parties will benefit, certainly. But the Congress needs to put its house in order. They are just not looking fighting fit, what with all the groups, lobbies etc.
  • What Next for BJP in Karnatka, will it impact BJP nationally since they have proved that they are a party with different in all aspects like corruption, scandals, moral policing, attacks on minorities, sex scams and what not ? Asked by: aggy
  • Nationwide, and for that matter internationally, the BJP's image is in tatters. so, yes it will affect it outside Karnataka as well, since this incident has got more press and TV than on expected. The BJP government in Karnataka is just limping along with no real purpose, apart from just hanging on. The difference is seen actually in the fact that ten ministers, including a CM, have been sacked for one scandal or another since they formed the government - a record!
  • Can the BJP come out of the crisis that it has put itself in ? Asked by: nairkaran@in.com
  • It certainly can. But I do not see any signs of the party making efforts in that direction. There is complete chaos within the party, no sense of discipline or order. The Chief Minister does not appear to be control of his cabinet. So, I think there is a desperate need for major surgery.
  • Is there any possibility for earlier election in Karnataka ? Asked by: Hari
  • This is a difficult one. all I will say is , with every setback of the sort that we have just seen, the government is weakening, and hence the probability of elections increases. Also, the BJP in Karnataka has never been as divided as it is today.
  • While it was an unbecoming act on the part of the ministers, for which they have been asked to resign, we must appreciate BJP for the quick actin initiated by it to save its image. Black sheep are there in every party and what is to be appreciated is the quick action taken against the black sheep by the party high command. Some parties remain unmoved even when of their members indulge in major impropriety. Asked by: vsethumadhavan
  • Yes, there are "black sheep" in all parties. But Karnataka the BJP government has been suffering setbacks with scandals of one kind or another surfacing at regular intervals over the last few years. With regard to the latest incident, the BJP had no alternative but to sack the ministers. their act was indefensible.
