CAT 2012: How to go about preparations

CAT 2012 will be held in 42 slots between October 11 and November 6, 2012. Professionals from Triumphant Institute of Management Education (T.I.M.E.) will counsel students on the matter.

  • sir what is requird qulification for me after complition of engineering ....m doing production engineering.... Asked by: shyam
  • If you mean what is the qualification required for CAT, you only need a graduation. 50% in any graduation will make you eligible to write CAT.
  • Sir, do IIM A,B,C apply the set formulae i.e application rating, weightage etc. for shortlisting or do they look at the profiles as well? Asked by: mohit
  • By profile, if you mean any thing else other than acads & work ex then, no they dont. They only look at CAT score (this plays a major role), work ex and acads. Work ex is not compulsory as freshers also get through.
  • number of attempts in both the sections to be sure of a call from iim-a?? Asked by: raju
  • Answered a similar question earlier in the chat. Please refer to it.
  • i took CAT'11 and got 97%ile.. got a good job via on campus placements.. so decided to earn a work-ex of 2 years.. when do you reckon would be a good time to start my preps for CAT-13? PS- I am taking CAT this year as well to keep in touch with the topics (have solved all TIME advanced- handouts) Asked by: Hushmian
  • Earlier the better. There are people who start 1.5 years ahead.
  • As per the records how many marks are related to how many percentile not exact one but approx. Asked by: Ninad
  • Ninad...this is not the same for every year. So, this info will not be of any use to you, but will distract you unnecessarily.
  • I am preparing for CAT13 but not sitting in any of the exams this year as i have a speculation that it might demoralize my confidence level, what should i do? Asked by: Rashu
  • It is advisable to give the test this year, to get a feel of the paper. There is no question of getting demoralised, as you are not giving the test with 100% preparation
  • sir i m doing engineering..... and i want 2 start preparation for cat 13 ..i dnt knw how to start.....m not capable to paying...fees...of classes plz suggest me what should i do..? Asked by: harshil pabari
  • Find out when a Talent Search Exam is being conducted by the CAT prep centers is conducting in your city. Take the test and a good performance in the test can bring you very good discounts in fees.
  • my accuracy in both the sections is not much in the mocks but i tend to feel that whatever i have attempted is correct (atleast in english) therefore i try to attempt all possible questions.should i continue the same approach hoping to get more right than wrong or should i reduce my attempt? Asked by: rajesh
  • First, lets get some data to support/contradict your feelings. Check your mocks. In the mocks that you have taken, how was your accuracy? In the questions where you felt you are confident, how was your accuracy? If both these number are high, then there is no issue and you need not reduce your attempts. If not, there could be an issue and youe need to relook your attempts.
  • What is the approx min numbers of questions that one should look to answer & how can I improve my reading comprehension skills??Can you suggest me any books to read?? Asked by: Dinesh
  • There is no one number that anybody can quote to respond to your question. The answer depends on various parameters - difficulty level of the paper, your academic performance, work ex, the IIM you are targeting etc. Even if one can arrive at such number, it is advisable to go to CAT with any such target on mind. Such a target will only exert pressure on the candidates and pull them down.
  • i the spur of the moment i make a lot of calculation errors.should i now practice more questions or revise the concepts in remaining week r so?? Asked by: ramesh
  • Calculation errors have nothing to do with practice or conceptual understanding. To reduce such errors, a cool and calm mind is what is required. Make sure you do not let your mind run ahead of you and that while you are solving the question, you focus only on that question and not on the last question or the question that may come after that.
  • Good afternoon sir, i will be taking CAT on 11th Nov,what should i do 1 day before the exam? Asked by: raushan
  • The day before the exam, relax. Do nothing even close to taking mocks. If you think it helps, make a list of important formulae and go through it
  • WHAT SHOULD I AIM AT MAX ATTEMPT OR MAX CORRECT ENTRIES THAT IS TIME DIVISION Asked by: NNNN
  • Both are important for a good score. The problem is that high accuracy kills speed and high speed dents your accuracy. So a balance is what is needed. Question selection plays a very important role here - easy questions need less time and hence give you more speed and also help your accuracy. So, try to answer all the easy questions in the paper, with out mission out on them. Once you exhaust all the difficult questions, gradually move towards questions of higher difficulty.
