IPL spot-fixing: the big picture

Do the IPL spot-fixing incidents involve just players and bookies or are there more powerful stakeholders involved? Is over-commercialisation of a sport to blame for what is happening? Has infusion of big money and corporate greed worked to the detriment of the game?
