Defence Minister A K Antony and Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor were not present at the events marking tenth anniversary of Kargil at Drass. Comment.

The prime minister was present at the function. There was no need for the defence minister to be present, if he had any other work to do. This must have been known to the prime minister too, because no minister would have skipped a programme to be attended by the prime minister.
But, the question of Army Chief not present can be raked up as an issue for journos who don't have any other work. Common there should be some proper reason for him to skip this event...
The prime minister of the country who is the most powerful person in this country and his presence there explains the significance of the event.

The PM should have gone to the function at KARGIL marking the 10th anniversary. The families of the dead soldiers and men who served there would have been happy to meet the PM, Army Chief and Def. Minister. What a let down!

Highly Improper. Antony in LUNGI does not deserve to be Defence Minister of India. Antony should be given porfolio of Rural
Development.Ask him what Development is in Kerala !!!!!!!!

It is because of channels like you that the present government is able to get away with unpardonable actions like skipping Kargil Vijay Diwas. You are asking this question today. For last FIVE years, the UPA govt has been blanking out this ocassion, while continuing to celebrate 1971. Have you ever asked them WHY they do this?? You are quick and merciless in pouncing on any minor act of omission and commission by BJP/NDA. Then why these gross double standards and kid gloves for UPA??

There was not one ocassion which BJP "stopped" celebrating when they were in power for 6 years. Be it Pokhran 1974 tests or 1971. This govt since 2004 contemptuously started giving 1998 nuclear tests and Kargil Divas (26th July)a miss. Did you guys EVER haul them up on the coals for this?? Congress message to this country is clear - " Whatever momentous milestone happens in India while we are NOT in power - we hereby erase from History"!!

Kargil was not only the toughest war our Army ever fought. Probably no other Army in the world fought such a mountain war. Each soldier who fought did so for INDIA. Not for NDA/UPA. Congress's steadfast refusal to recognize 1998 Pokhran & Kargil deserves the strongest condemnation. The Defence Minister & the Army Chief owe an explanation to the country as to why they were missing.

You are right. When the media becomes biased it signals doom for democracy.

I agree with you.We didnt even bother to remember about kargil for the past five years and now suddenly this year when the PM goes for one function and the other ministers skip it the media is suddenly interested in it.Do we all really care about the families the soldiers left behind ?The families of these army men have to survive on the peanuts the gov gives them. Why doesnt the media take up these issues with the government ? I feel the best way to remember the sacrifice these brave men made to make our lives safe is to take care of the families they left behind..We really owe them that...

Its very unfortunate that Mr Defence Minister and Chief of Army Staff were not seen at all in Drass or in any function. If families of the Martyrs can reach Drass why cant these two??Were they so much busy in south block that they cant take out 1 day off.Mr COAS you are truly a diappointing chief or you also fixing up your post retirement carrier as Governor of some state.Just remeber words of CHETWOOD in IMA before passing out parade,i think with time your memory have faded and you have started reading those words from bottom to top not from top to bottom.
"The safety, honour and welfare of your country comes first always and every time,
The safety and welfare of your men comes next,
Your own safety and welfare comes last always and everytime."
