Defence Minister A K Antony and Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor were not present at the events marking tenth anniversary of Kargil at Drass. Comment.

My piece of advice for Defence minister. Its not enough if you have a taint free reputation for what you deal with, the job you hold is demands much more than that. Missing out on the Vijay Diwas events reeks of political game plan and you seem to be part of it. Cut these things out!! Mere prescence will also not do. Assess the situation of the army and take proactive steps to correct anamolies(like the bullet proof jacket row). Ensure army dealings become more transparent so that you reputation stays intact. We heard only about scams and conning when it comes to army deals be it congress or the BJP who is at power. Ensure that the protectors of our nation are well protected!

Yes, Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi anniversaries are sacred days of observance for a Congress leader. Do we hear about other national heroes? Bose, Gokale, Rajendra Prasad, Rajagopalachari, Amedkar etc are all remembered by researchers and history scholars. In text book controversy in Kerala the Left Front removed the history of national movements and replaced them by the history of local communist movement and their heroes. Yes, like Congress the Left wanted their cadre to be built up with the inspiring examples of local heroes and the local history of social movements of reforms and armed struggles. But the Congress whipped up controversies. India is vast country and many streams of struggles and strikes went into the making up of the independent India, free India. No doubt, Nation should strike a right balance between National and Regional histories including the Left%u2019s contribution toward Freedom.

MY HEAD HANGS IN SHAME WHEN PRESENT GOVT. DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO CELEBRATE KARGIL VICTORY WITH OUR JAWANS .JAWANS GIVE THEIR LIFE FOR COUNTRY AND NOT FOR PARTY>CONGRESS PARTY WILL NOT GET VOTE FROM PEOPLE OF ARMED FORCES AND THIS IS ONLY WAY TO TEACH THEM TO BE ABOVE PARTY POLITICS AND TO THINK OF INDIAN ARMY.

The media - particularly the electronic media played up the Kargil skirmish as if it were a WWIII. Kargil had to happen. Why. No one including past & present governments have explained this nor has the media. The genesis of Kargil goes back to Siachen. Siachen is a glacier at 15,000 feet which is located on no man's land along the international border. It was under Pakistani occupation all along. It gave them tremendous military advantage. One fine day the Indian Army from the base of Siachen looked up and found it totally deserted - no one knows why the Pakistanis were not around to guard Siachen. Anyway the Indians clambered up and took control and no matter how hard the Pakistanis tried they simply could not dislodge the Indian Army. And that is that.

Militarily we did not attack the Pakistanis on their side of the border which we should have done because Musharaf's tough talk about using nukes scared everone. Not even Indian Air Force planes crossed the border when providing support to the groud troops. Indian casualties were high because we did not attack the Pakistanis on their side of the border from the air.

Coming to the Military top brass missing from Kagil memorials ten years on. What difference would it have made to anyone. The grieving would still grieve, the maimed will still stay maimed and forgotten. And I personally do not like the word martyrs for the Kargil dead. Call them Kargil fallen heroes if yopu like. Martyrs is a term Islamists use to kill and maim innocents

Ideally it should have been the President leading the way and joining the events at Drass. The PM too ought to have been present. Notwithstanding their absence, we the people of the country have in our hearts all the respect for our brave armed forces and prayers on our lips for the families of those who laid down their lives for us.

It's unfortunate that our Defence Minister is not clear about his priorities. It shows that there is no co ordination between divisions within his department.

The Nuke Sub will float even a day after the Kargil Anniversary.

A senior minister skipping an important event does look better.

It is regrettable to note that even after sixty-two years of our independent existence and our best endeavours to take the nation to its prime position in the comity of nations by 2025, many of us are still overworked over "Celebrations" and "Holidays"!Thanks to the six-year rule of BJP led NDA and the stewardship of George Fernandes of the Defence portfolio, the armed forces have come under cloud in an unprecedented scale!Hence, Kargil Victory is also has a tainted edge. So let us not make much ado about it.

OUR ARMY IS THE BEST ARMY IN THE ENITRE WORLD.THESE POLTICIAN ONLY STICK FOR 5 YEARS.WE SHOULD THINK THIS WAY,THE DEFENCE MINISTER AND THE ARMY CHIEF HAVE LOST THE PRIDE IN ATTENDING THE HONORABLE CERMONY.AND IT WAS BETTER THE GANDHI FAMILY WAS NOT PRESENT IN THIS CEREMONY.WE SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT THEY DID NOT MAKE THIS A POTICAL MEETING VENUE.

THIS IS PLACE WHERE OUR BRAVE JAWANS SOULS ARE RESTING IN PEACE.WE DON'T HAVE TO MAKE THIS A POLCTIAL STAGE.

There is no better proof to what extent the politicians can go on to divide the country in order to rule. Caste, Religion, Region, Language vote-banks and now is the turn of national history, in terms of wars, victories and sacrifices in UPA vs NDA regime. This is our fall since we accept all these divisions and going this way the day is not far when someone from outside will realize how divided and easy to conquer we are, but it will be too late to open up the eyes of foolish people who think these divisions will always benefit them.
