Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was detained for two hours at a US airport after American immigration officials spotted the 'Khan' in his name.

Stupid gimmick? He has been pampered in India like hell. He expected the same, and simply got a regular attention there. And must have then tried to throw weight around, which might have led to further isolation. I have muslim friends who have names like Afghan militants, sport long bears and they never had any problems in Newark. SRK is playing the same sympathy card which Imran Hashmi played a few weeks back.

hey, thats just the thought i had. celebrities and politicians are like whimpering and whining spoilt kids. they cry for attention and when they dont get it they just cry louder. they dont realise that they add little value to our lives except to rave and rant about the lack of importance they get. it different in the united states of america. it is a land where even the president was publicily mauled about his affair with an intern. so if that can happen to the president, who is SRK afterall. just someone who runs around trees singing songs. bah he deserved worse and we indians are so jingoistic about our reel heroes, coz we actually dont know what heroism is all about!!!

By now SRK must have known who is he? let him be mature as he is around 43, he should be educated, how to honour the security norms in country like US or any other. Our ministers stop rallying behind him for their vote bank politics.Who will save india, Let india learn from others how to secure the country. He is not greater than ex president abdul kalam.

I think you are right with the fact that these starry guys have been pampered in India and they cant tolerate "normal" routines. There's so much media attention because it is sharukh. What happens to many common men who have such "suspicious" names and are being harrased in other countries?

Have not they issued his visa in an American embassy? Have they not checked his identity and status and criminal records while doing so? Then why do you support such self-styled big brother attitude. Please be Indian! I appreciate you will not be offended by my message.

The audacity of one security officer refusing to special treat Mr. Khan in spite of many others recognizing him triggered an egoistic reaction which he conveniently turned in to a good publicity by exploiting it to the hilt. He was on an entertainment business trip to US ostensibly on invitation and there is nothing wrong if he was questioned a bit more on the basis of ‘Khan’ and asked to wait for few hours as his baggage could not be traced immediately. Mr. Sharukh Khan being an intelligent person is clearly aware that US is not India to accord VIP status and should have understood the security concerns of US.
The hype and noise made by Media and some shortsighted people is indicative of the fact that we are victims of VIP culture that is being shamelessly practiced in India. It has succeeded in brainwashing us to accept special treatment to our VIP’s as something legal and sacrosanct. Just because we are infected and brainwashed by VIP culture, we must not expect others to behave like us. The system works there and most officials mean their business strictly. Hence, Media should have appreciated it and cited it as a good example to our security personnel to frisk and check VIP's from outside with same strictness and seriousness. We just cannot follow them because we are addicted to VIP culture. Media failed to seize this opportunity in the right sense and instead, went the other way indicates that it is also not immune from VIP syndrome. It is a sure sign of misplaced priority.
There is some racial profiling embedded as part and parcel of security checks in US and it is unavoidable till certain level of trust is restored by combined effort by US and the people belonging to the community profiled. Religious beliefs and practices are not to be questioned or interfered with as faith must be respected. It is to be treated to be so in spite of certain practices are cruel, unjust and blatantly violative of Human rights from the point of view of other faiths. For instance, just recently, the Afghan president, Mr. Karzai, has signed a bill that legalizes denial of food and maintenance to sex denying wife, compensation of marital rape with blood money etc. Though it is shocking to others, it is just and acceptable to majority of the faithful. Then, what is the way open to deal with the fanatical terror that is growing day by day based on religious and political differences. Respect the faith and doubt the faithful seems to be the principle followed in US to ensure security and it is justified. It is incorrect to brand this additional care as deliberate and motivated racial profiling as there is no easy alternative. This is the reason why the US is successful in containing major terrorist acts on its soil after 9/11 where as our misguided notions and poor systemic response continue to ensure cyclical and unabated terror activities.
It is time to accept that the apparent discrimination as genuine security concern and gives up fallacious notions of discrimination on grounds of faith when countries are fiercely competitive and inextricably linked economically for mutual benefit. It is time for the affected people of the community to accept the reality and work to isolate the fanatic elements by highlighting as to how the misguided actions of a few has adversely affected all. Mr. Khan had one such opportunity. He seized it for his own benefit!

Dear jaykuppur, We are not talking about a VIP culture. If America has a system which can recognise people with retina, fingerprints, and all their horroscope can be found on the system, then they know who this person is and what he is there for. The same reasoning is given when the Visa is applied in the consulates in India. I am an IT profesional dealing with Biometric devices. I know how detailed the database can go into. There is no need of Shah Rukh here. America is not the only country in the world. They will have more problems if they continue to harass Muslims or anybody with Muslim names. The whole world knows that this is done purposfully. We as Indians Reacted and will react if we are humiliated unwantedly. This is done, and the result is the American Amabsador to India had to interfere and come out with a public statement. After that the immigration department came out with a statement that he was held a little more for exactly 66 minutes because of the late arrival of his baggage. They are ready to say sorry. If that is the case, it is done purposefully. Doing something purposefully to humiliate a person or country or a race is not acceptable and everybody in India wants to do the same to Clintons and Bush(e)s and the high profile high net worth Individuals.
Secondary inspection for 10 mins or 15 mins is ok. If you know, how a secondary immigration setup works, you would not be mentioning like this. Each individual for secondary inspection is assigned different officer. While each new persons detail is checked,(it is not checked by the same officer, they have a whole group of officers doing checking), and if it takes time, then another person is called in while the check for the earlier person is being done. It will be late only to newcomers to the country. Any person who has travelled in that country for one time will have their horroscope in their immigration database and is easy to retrieve. Even somebody goes back with a different passport and name, he will be recognised by face recognistion algorithms. So this is just a gimmick for cheap publicity for that officer. He was told by other officers that they know SRK. But still the headstrong power superimposed uniform clad officer wanted to go ahead. Agree he wanted it, but any person detained should be given access to phone lines to call the embassy or consulates of their own country. If that was done then all this contrerversy would not have happened. Till now everybody including our Dr. Kalam suffered as gentleman. Only when you confront a tit for tat person then you will get it back. US got it back and I am happy for it

I am sorry for SRK, but if you have to deal with terrorist this should be accepted. People should co-operate, I know SRK will understand this. The fact is that, it is not possible that everyone in the world knows about SRK, but if the immigration officials misbehaved or made comments then that is unacceptable, as per my knowledge americans are famous for that, They start the fire and later provide water to put of the fire, as if showing sympathy. cunning americans. The only solution is to treat american the same way, irrespective to there post, or Fame back home.

Who is SRK in US? Even RGV did not recognize Dhoni at the Bangalore airport. We make our heroes more than human. Everybody should be screened even in India. The way SRK behaves, it is confirmed that VIPs in India get special treatment at security checkups. Remember, we had an incident of the Security guard gunning down our PM. Hence all including the President & PM should go through the security checks to prevent somebody else taking advantage of their immunity.
Come on Indian leaders, actors, cricketers & the so called VIPs. Shed your egos and join the main stream.

This attitude of SRK is common. He always wants to be in front of Television Cameras and blabber something like ahh...uhh.. Afterall Our Ex-President and Malayalam actor mamooty never made an issue eventhough they were mistreated(Both are muslims).SRK has friends in media circle so his friends exaggerate whatever he blabbers. Bla Bla SRK and talk something whatever comes to your mind.

why so much fuss over this issue...and i cant believe SRK acting like a kid over this issue and issuing media statements. If you are treated bad then dont visit that place...it is that simple. If we stop shooting in US - then who is going to loose revenues ? It is them...shoot your movies somewhere else..there are so many beautiful places available on earth dear SRK...forget US for good

Why make a mountain out of a mole-hill. For the last two days all the media channels are harping on this episode, ...arrey baba...how was the airport fellow to know who this guy is? After all he was doing his duty.and he doesn't watch hindi films...even madhuri dixit had said once, she likes roaming around and shopping in the US as no one recognizes her....so who is SRK? Forget it...report about better and more important matters.

Mr Vineet - you are suggesting that a globally well known corrupt bunch known as Indian Ministers should not be frisked. Knowing they will not be searched do you know what this bunch will be upto - smuggle women out claiming them to be their wives, smuggle in contraband or evade duties on return and any other nasty thing you can think of

Detaining Shahrukh was a real bad thing. I am saying this considering that he has a KHAN attached to his name. US official say that his name popped up in the screen thats why he was detained or questioned and then when this incident really came in the Media, they reverted back saying that he was detained because of his missing Baggage. But in fact there were 20 other people in the detention room, even their baggage went missing ??

Mr Rahul,
Your are wrong. In US there is strict Home land security check and they can detain and frisk any person if they have any doubt on that person.Mr Khan is just ordinary citizen of India and they have every right to frisk him if their law ask.Mean time frisking happend with Kalam is not acceptable that is also in India.where was the govt it happened long time back but it come to our notice recently.

He was not detained just for being KHAN.He is just exaggerating the incident to get the attention of the people as he is from a minority community. Also we cannot rule out the possibility of his links with terrorists which made the officer frisk him.

Mr Rahul questioning Shah Rukh was not at all a bad thing for anybody. Living in India you can never understand the repulsiveness of prostrating oneself at the feet of VIPs which most Indians indulge in whenever a VIP comes around . Your name sake's brother in law - Robert Vadra can breeze through airport security in India when the Service Chiefs cannot. In comparison the daughter of the Queen of England was stopped by a ordinary traffic Sergeant and had her driving license taken away for speeding. The same fate had met her aunt the Queen's sister some years back. I am a witness to those incidences. Which country would you rather be - here or there ?
