350 crore Shivaji

350 crore Shivaji's statue: Are statues a waste of public money?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 03:40 PM, Aug 26, 2009 in Shows

Tonight at 10 pm on Face The Nation, Sagarika Ghose asks a panel of experts if statues are a waste of public money.

Absolutely correct, it’s wastage of hard earned money of us and that to the people who are often paying income tax.Maharashtra GOVT is following steps of Mayawati by erecting statues. Instead of this, spend this money on the needy people, infrastructure development, and children education etc.Typically in Maharashtra farmers are following suicides due to bankruptcy. I think erecting such statues nothing will happen. By adopting this policy the current GOVT is targeting some castes by keeping an eye on forthcoming elections.

If I become the chief minister of my State, I will gift a Bronze statue of myself to every citizen of my state!

Sounds like Tughlak Raj to me.

Who cares about any status anyways?! Can't the money spent on the statues be spent on something more constructive which WILL eventually lead to a better reputation than what the statues bring.

I guess crows, sparrows and pigeons will be very happy!!

Statue- Rs 350 Crores!!! Bai Vah
India is a grossly uneven society. It has the most virtuous individuals .very crudest materialism, the cast system tieing a yoke round the neck of downtrodden. We have potentially rich areas for agriculture & good mineral reserves in the world ,a country of many provinces, mighty rivers full of fish, snowbound mountains, people with intelligence, talent & patience. Yet , our Leaders with failed vision & actions have converted it into a darb, shabby, parlytic ruin..They are more interested in choklate game ,cricket gambling. We have 57 crores below poverty line.Every third half starved & half naked is from India.Every third Tb & Cancer patient is from India. We have maximum daily suides in the world, dacoity, rapes & accidents. Also true out of first 100 rich in the world India has four .We have many wealthiest people like Birla,Tata,Ambanis,Naryana Moorty & many many more yet, we are at 129th alongwith Pakistan in terms of per capita income. With 53 crores poorest earning just Rs.15 per day ,is it woth while to spend 350 crores on Shivaji’s Statues. One crore to 3 crores should be enough for the statue of Shivaji.Let balance be transferred to a fund for feeding the half starved 2.5 crors people of Maharashtra

If Advaniji(83) really desire to quit,This is the right time as he is already too late.

He has really disgraced himself with his foul actions including intelctual dishonesty.Today ,he is seen as the biggest political liar in India, having no credibility. He can go to any extent in gaining power, as he used money power to hire votes, some TV Channels for his propaganda, that he is Minister in waiting/ Prime Minister in waiting,he is pm in waiting,he is very good & NirNayak, Loh Purash & what not. He proved that he is Budhee Ghoree Lal Lagam,Na Koi Dhanda Na Koi Kam.By calling the best professional, most competent, visionary & farsighted Indian PM, Dr ManMohan Singh as a weak PM, Advani proved, how big fanatic, communalist, jealous minded person is he.During his hate spreading Rath Yatra, he did grave crime in dividing Indian communities living in Harmony & created riots/deaths.His removal from Indian political scene, will be a blessing in disguise not only for Indian Nation, but for the whole Sub continent, being a saffron Talibanic fanatic.Nation has otherwise also thrown him in dust bin due to his misdeeds. Earlier he elopes better for the people & sub continent.

In today's era of climate change due to human activities, building anything which is not absolutely essential is a crime against humanity. Glorifying a hero is not as important as protecting Mumbai for our children. We build monuments so that future generations will remember a great hero. What if our future generations don't survive to see the monument?

So think thrice before wasting energy and resources like this..

One should have brains to utilise the public money when and how especially when ones land has already been hit by drought.wasting money to honour dead heros when thousands of those living are on the verge o dying due to the hazards caused by"AILA".Its no point in remembering the dead ad forget those living and are the legends of tomorrow

I think India need's it.
And those people how are cursing the government for spending Rs. 350+ cr on it should feel ashamed on them. These people can travel around the glob to see statue of liberty but but can't encourage there own government build monuments like this.

One thing they should note is , What is the guarantee that monsoons will be normal next year or we would not face any other calamities?

Building this monument will bring pride to the Indians + tourism + money(which some people r unable to sense). And India needs all this. I think some people don't understand the capabilities & possibilities of tourism industry. It will generate a lot of money + a lot of foreign exchange. And who the thinks India doesn't need money. India needs money to fight drought , to fight floods , to fight other natural calamities and for other responsibilities too.

You can't stop development because of problems you r facing. Because problems will keep arising but if u r developing it will be easy to fight with them.

Vivek, do u think our tourism will develope tremendously by installing a 350cr statue?

Our India is a developing nation without a good monetary stand. Before going behind this type of assignments we must have to think about other simple yet more severe problems that need to eradicate first.

This is utter waste of money..

As far as India is concerned lots of other severe issues like poverty, problem of unemployment, poor educational standards, poor Infrastructure, problem of corruption etc etc are lined up, then why we are going behind such types of eccentric assignments.

This type of projects shed light on the hard reality that “we must accept that we could not solve our problems and instead all these problems are turning complex and complicated”.
So I firmly believe that it’s better to use such huge amounts for doing some useful work rather wasting it like this.

A big big waste. I think people through the media must make it very clear we dont want to waste money on statues, it is just 1 incident that is brought to light on media, but there are so many incidents like this happening in every city. I stay in bangalore, some parts of bangalore dont even have basic infrastructure, people dont get water for 5 days, there is a power crisis, roads (if at all they exist) r in very bad shape, why waste money on statues, every year there is a statue to please a particular caste. Does anyone even look up into the statue and identify the person? Almost all city buses in bangalore have women conductors now, unfortunately the bustands will not even have a toilet. Look at these issues first.

Current Rating:

Well this isn't all tax payers money, is it !
We all know how mayawati and her bsp goons do money extortion from 'aam janta'.

Anyway if you are fool enough to vote her to power then you cannot blame her for your problems.
