Have not laid hands on The lost symbol as of now... But contrary to the majority, I feel that Dan's Angels and Demons was the best of his novels... I literally felt the pace of the race against time when I read it.. Da Vinci Code was more about creating a controversy than thrills and its ending, I feel sort of fizzled out...

Current Rating:

Just finished reading much awaited and much hyped “The Lost Symbol”, Mr. Dan Brown’s highly anticipated novel about Freemasons and a BIG secret that promised to change the world if revealed. Though Mr. Brown has been successful in keeping the readers fascinated for most part of the book, he has not been able to retain the fast paced nature of his earlier novels. The 500 page storyline has all the essential ingredients of a typical Robert Langdon adventure, secret societies, rituals, symbols, codes, codes within codes, hi-tech gadgets, cutting edge technology and above all, the Dan Brown trademark-race against time. The sad part amongst this entire potpourri of ancient mysteries and noetic science is that, the codes are taking longer to decode, the characters are becoming increasingly predictive, and the biggest letdown is, Robert Langdon is growing dim. Most of the mysteries are answered by characters other than Langdon which makes him look like a shadow of his earlier characterizations. Much to the exasperations of readers, the story dances dangerously close to being a self-help cant and at times a religious sermon. Though, not a total disappointment because of Mr. Brown’s amazing ability to keep his readers enthralled in even the most lackluster of plots, but overall a downer for many of avid Dan Brown fans like me.

I guess it's still a good read if you are not keeping 'Da Vinci Code' as a benchmark. makes for a fine weekend page turner.

Apart from his Da Vinci Code all his other books - written even before the Da Vinci Code are fairly boring. The media hype that has preceded the release of his latest The Lost Symbol has indeed made me also book a copy - just wonder if it will match with our expectations.

Dan Brown is well known for his un-put-downable thrillers with religion as background and a lot of interesting research matter.I hope 'The Lost symbol' as the title suggests, should be one of the top sellers by him. i look forward for its release.

Looking forward to reading it but waiting for the paperback edition. Not a book I'd collect in hard bound!
