Will Maharashtra have a Hung Assembly?

Will Maharashtra have a Hung Assembly?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 04:49 PM, Sep 29, 2009 in IBNPolitics

The battle for Maharashtra is set. Will the Congress-NCP combine beat anti-incumbency? Will the Shiv Sena-BJP manage to come back? Will the state get a Hung Assembly?

I am the only one on this blog who feels that the opinion polls are off track. I feel SS-BJP will touch 135 seats, and Congress-NCP will be close with 130+ seats.
MNS 6-8 and balance will be RPI+ and Independents.

1) The increase in voting percentage compared to Lok Sabha is not likely to be in favour of Congress-NCP.
2) People who have voted for MNS in Lok Sabha have seen Congress benefitting, and will be careful this time.
3) How do you explain 60-70% turnout in West MAharashtra and Vidarbha? Have so many people come out to help Congress-NCP?

Congress & NCP will make the new govt. again with the old Duo i.e. Ashok Chavan & Chagan Bhujbal as CM & Dy CM but Sharad pawar the Jaanta Raja and our yuvraj Rahul Gandhi should keep them on toes for the betterment of unprivileged and poor farmers and bring down the essential prices.

yes Maharashtra is heading for a hung assembly with Congress-NCP coming first but will not be able touch the magic number. This election is crucial for NCP which has not done well in the Parliamentary elections, although still managed good number of votes. The third front lead by Raju shetty is a big problem and will create few hurdles for Congress- NCP in its strong hold ie in western Maharashtra. The RPI, will also cut into the votes of Congress- NCP particularly Atawale's group.

The damage for Sena- BJP is MNS which will cut the votes of Sena in Mumbai and adjoining areas and this is an asset of Congress-NCP. BJP is also in disarray and lack good leaders the national crisis of BJP will also eclipse the assembly election and they are not going to do well. BJP is the weak link in the Sena-BJP alliance and this will also go in the favour of Congress- NCP.

In my view, the Government will be stable with 5 year term; with or without support of MNS. Picture is really unclear who will win, as there are rebels everywhere. There was a news that NCP had around 100 rebels this time out of which Mr Pawar could convince around 10-15. One needs to understand that Pawar is an ailing man too and he suffered a lot in Western Maharashtra during Parliament elections. Shivsena has gained a lot of control in Marathwada and Vidarbh with anti-incumbency playing in against Congress-NCP. Mumbai and suburbs have 76 seats and MNS will play a significant role there. My analysis on each region and performance during Parliament elections gave me following output

Congress-NCP -> 131
SS-BJP -> 115
MNS -> 17
Others -> Around 25 (coz of Rebels in the state currently)

I think, its upto Congress-NCP to convince others or go with MNS and take its burden for long 5 years. One thing clear... MNS is going to give either of the parties very hard time. They are the resurgent force in Maharashtra.
