US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation. Does Brand Obama deserve the Nobel Peace prize?

Frankly, I think his mother has made more extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy! Dirty politics has pervaded everywhere and this seems to be a paltry effort to prop up the sagging dollar and the sagging fortunes of a bankrupt nation.

If you can get a noble prize for doing nothing, then Obama is the only deserving candidate. What say?

Optimism is the essence in him,
Broadminded views of democracy
And true spirit of humanitarian ethics
Merge in his unquestionable diplomacy;
A wind of change emanates from him

President Barack Obama deserves this Nobel Peace Prize, as his intentions are good. And if the past offers some inspirations to move forward or some lessons to learn, we should take them with us for the present and for the future. Otherwise leave them behind forever. Obama might have gone through this. And he seems to be in the White House to remove some black spots from the minds of people at home and abroad. Optimism is the essence of his speech. Abraham Lincoln once told he had destroyed his enemies by making them friends. And his bold step helped eradicate slavery. Obama seems to follow him. Of course any outcome is not expected overnight. In politics, political opportunism is dangerous. Even if he and his like minded are sincerely on the move towards peace and tranquility, the hardliners from every part of the world await chances of their wrong steps .Religious interferences some times deviate the process of a good proposal or they come as stumbling blocks. People who are committed to the peace initiatives must be brave to take up all such challenges, if they really want to translate their vision. All the peace loving citizens of the world hope that the long standing conflicts may come one by one in the funeral queue with an epitaph.

I dont think so its correct. Even he didnt finish less than a year in office, how he is taking extrodinary effort to strengthen the international diplomacy. See there are plenty of people in USA itself not accepting this result.

Disappointed

Congrats Prez for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. With or without Nobel, I was greatly impressed by your articulation of non-voilence and your efforts to bridge the chasm between races and communities. I watched you interview on CNN and was rather surprised at your remarkable statesmanship when you did not attribute personal diatribe against you to racism and instead constructively took the dialogue to a different plane - clearly empathising with your opponents. You have a long way to go and if you can really deliver on the principles espoused by your idols, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., the world will certainly be a better place to live. Wishing you a happy Diwali and great years in office.

It should be the joke of the century !!! surely....

Next year its going to be the Chinese prime minister or the British PM.

Just can't understand the Noble committee. It now clearly looks on through a western worlds outlook and any peace in the world should be based on the peace in USA or its friendly states.

If this is the criteria then even MUSHARAFF will be fully qualified.
