The Railways is an important link that connects India's human network. Like all infrastructure machinery, the Railways, too has been plagued with is own share of problems. Derailments, accidents, lack of proper maintenance and amenities, safety -- the list is long. Tell us what can be done to make the Railways safer.

VIPs should travel on Indian Railways and not by plane. They shall be able to have a first hand information of the conditions in which Indian passengers travel and it shall also make Railways safe and comfortable for other passengers. When a couple of VIPs suffer inconvenience during their travel it shall make them take up the cause of safety and good food on trains which is at present uneatble.
This is the most practical way of making railways safe.

In my opinion what Indian railways needs, is an administration driven by not by lackadaisical approach but a more proactive approach, dedicated to serve the greater interest of the citizens. Such admministration can ensure a comfortable railway service, adding to the development of a more successful infrastructure for our country.

The government needs to extend a more transparent support to the Indian Railways and ensure that such support mechanism does not get entangled in a bureaucratic web, designed to fulfill saelfish interest of our politicians.

By practicing a more proactive and an open policy, the government can ensure a safer, and a more efficent PSU designed to serve the citizens

I strongly feel that too many trains are introduced one after the other thereby clogging the railway lines and messing up the infrastructure. The Railway Minister must first make sure that the present trains run on time, have enuf security in those which run thru UP, Bihar and Haryana.

The Mathura accident was waitingto happen. Imagine how many times people pull the train, bring it to a halt so that they can get off it!! Steaming behind it are other trains unaware of the unschedule halt and bang....

The Indian Railways is the biggest Infrastructure in the World.
Even though it being structured into Zones as North, South, East, West and Central, the mechanism and ability in the way the Functionary HEADS run the Railways is APPALING.
YOUNG Educated youth need to be imbibed/infused into every and all Departments, so that this Machinery can Function like a well oiled Machine.
Not only the Railways, but all Ministries should be in the Hands of capable Functionaries (Not Party Functionaries who are UNSCRUPULOUS/DISHONEST/UNCOUTH/CROOKED/CORRUPT/DECEITFUL).

There is no accountabilty in the system incuding thepresent Minister. She spends more time in Calcutta spewing venom at W. Bengal CM than in Delhi ensuring safety of operations of railways. Mamata is no Lal Bahadur Shastry in stature to take responsibilty for an accident and resign. She is no Madho Rao Scindia who pulled the railways out of the rut it had been for years altogether. She is simply piggy backing on others ahievements and trying to improve her vote share by lowering standards for railway appointments.

I think Indian railways are much safer but there is few thing happen but it happen every where .In last 15 years the accidents cases in railway has decreased .in 1993-94 to 2004 the accidents due to railways staff, other cause and ,equipment failure.but 2009 in comparison of 2004 only 144 people had died in railways accident.and 71% people lost their lives due to derailment.Still we can believe that the railways journey is safest journey in comparison of others.

All the VIPs, ministers and MPs should travel by trains only to make the Railways safer. The scare of the accidents would make the VIPs take greater care of the safety of the Railways. The trains would rin on time and would provide better eating stuff which at present is uneatable. The people should insist upon the safety of the rail passengers. Last year during my travel from Lucknow to New Delhi I saw that poor passengers coming from Bihar were beaten up by goonds in Moradabad side. I tried to stop them by making pleas but to no avail.A.L.Rawal
