What can be done to make India a safer place? Give suggestions

TimePosted by IBNLive at 11:17 AM, Nov 17, 2009 | Updated at 09:36 AM, Nov 18, 2009 in India

Each terror attack, whether internal or external, has ripped through the country's social fabric. It also exposed our vulnerability as a soft state in terms of dealing with terror and has brought to light the fact that there is a lack of coordination between various agencies when it comes to fighting terror. What do you think can be done to make India a safer place? Send us your suggestions.

The life of every single Indian is worth-defending.India must stop being soft on terrorism.To make Insia a safer place, all the local policemen must be better-equipped to fight with the terrorists in case of a terror attack instead of waiting for the arrival of the army or the NSG's.The local policemen are struggling to contain even the naxalites.How can they face terrorists ,who are far more dangerous people?There must be a better coordination among the various departments like the Intelligence department ,the defence forces, local police etc...It's very sad that even today,the constables are equipped only with lathis.Can they face terrorists who carry machine guns?Even a small child today is not afraid of a Lathi.The border security must be strengthened.Today,we have many hardcore terrorists like Kasab,Afzal guru in our custody.But,there is a lot of delay in prosecuting them & the judicial process is unfortunately slow.Jihadi organisations are exploiting the loopholes of the Indian judiciary system.

Its enough our country has practised non-violence.We were ruled by Britishers for centuries and they knew that Indians are soft targets and can be ruled. We have to show the world now that we arent the same Indians...we do respect our traditions ,culture and values...but we should show the world the inner strength what we possess and which is hidden beneath due to restrictions laid upon us.Once we are freed to express our power and combat our neighbours ..the world will see that every Indian is equally dangerous when he fights for his country.
We should revolt back to every action taken and crush terrorism and terrorist organisations out of our country.
I hope to see this battle WON before I close my eyes and I will put in whatever it takes from my side to fight for our country.
Long LIVE INDIA ...JAI HIND....

Being an Indian, we feel proud of our strength, culture, spirit and unity. The simple thing is "When someone slaps you, you should not ask anyone else to slap the enemy". Our political leaders, no matter, they are from which party, but they are all cowards who just beg always in front of US and other countries to pressure. And nothing has happened so far. Our honorable Home Minister even is not confident of not to have such kind of attacks in future. How can we feel safer? Years have passed and leaders just run away by saying whatever has been done is not satisfactory so far and we will try to put more pressure, that's it. Invaluable lives of our most respectful soldiers are lost and they always have nothing so say. I think they should learn lesson from Israel who knows the value of lives of citizens.

First of all, RR Patil back as HM and no whimper from media. HA HA That's public memory which includes media. Secondly Mumbaikars did NOT VOTE and hence are excused from this discussion. They are more interested in making money, hook or crook. So WHY SHOULD THE REST OF THE COUNTRY BOTHER. Stop this chattering and let us not bother. Mumbaikars are not some weaker section of the nation that they don't know what a vote entails.

India to get safer needs honesty and unity in both political as well as civil society. Its now that we stand together rather fight among each other. Our reason for uniting together should not be a incident like 26/11 but rather it should be for preventing and fighting it.

In my view one of the steps that need to be taken is a better intelligence gathering mechanism. Our police services need a major overhaul and needs to be freed from the pulls and pressures of politicians which is the biggest problem. The police just doesn't seem to be interested to doing their jobs, I really don't blame either. If one can get what one wants by sucking up to a politician why on earth would he care about doing what he is requited to do.
Personal who retire from the armed forces should be recruited into RAW & IB.
The police at the state level should be armed much better, even today I just was a photograph of the Navi Mumbai Police & Commodes unit which was supposedly created in the aftermath of the attacks last year armed with carbines & 7.56mm SLR's which are of 1970's vintage. At lest arm them with INSAS rifles.

You just snathced my words buddy!

In addition, the people have realized the impact of such incidents and what they have learnt is to be resolute which is good. But what can be better is the awareness spread, where the people can stop such incidents by reporting at the right time if they see something. The Media has played its role in this regard,atleast to an extent which is commendable, it can do better to spread it.This helps the police and the people.

excellent!!!!!!!!
One thing I want to add. In India home minister doesn,t get involved in state's affair (told by mr. chitambaram on Tuesday when someone asked him). I think we need some changes in our system. According to home minister of india, he can just ask for report but actually can't interfere.

Hi,

My name is Monica Jogi and I am currently residing in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. I am an Indian/Mumbai resident.

I was totally shaken up by the tragedy that befell on Mumbai last year!!
I have composed a poetry as my respect to the heroes and is my heartfelt expression being a Mumbaiite

MUMBAI MERI JAAN...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chota sa aasman..simta hua sa sheher..
Aankhon main hai aangare..jaltee huee dopeher!
zinda to hai sheher..dhadkan kahan gayee?
woh 60 ghanto ka aatank,...hume firse mila gayee!
kho gaya tha woh jasba... magar mumbai ko firse "JAAN" bana gayee!!!
Rok lenge aankhon mai hi nafrat ke is sailab ko,
chot khayee hai bhale, hare nahi abhi..
ek hokar ladenge aise..wafa denge mumbai meri jaan ko!
chulte hue gire hain to kya, honge khade fir se!
aapas mai jhagadte hain to kya, milayenge haathon ko fir se!
yeh hi to shaan hai mere sheher ki, yeh hi to baat hai..
meelon dur hai phir bhi...mumbai meri jaan hai :)
Sunle tu jo bhi hai..kar le jo kar sakta hai!!
Todna chahta tha DARR se ..magar hue Saath Saath hum,
jitne Khokle the hosle..Unhe Buland kar gaye tum!
kat jayenge lekin jhukenge nahi dushman tere aage,
Girega Muh ke bal har baar tu, karenge naakam tere irade!!
Mere Desh ke Jawan tujhe hai anginat pranam..
Har bar ki tarah..hone nahi denge teri qurbani ko badnam!!
"chulta hai" ka naara aab bus bahot ho chuka.
apne gharon pe humla aab bahot ho chuka
Aao Aise Jude..ke na koi Tod Sake fir..!!
Koi bhi Chor Uchakka ...Dobara Ghus Na sake Fir..!!
Sare Jahan se Aacha Hindustaan Humara..
Hum Bulbule hain iskee, yeh gulsitaan humara..
Is gulsitaan ki dekho, sabse badee yeh Shaan hai,
Rahoon kahin fir bhi..Mumbai Meri Jaan Hai !!!
