Sena workers attack Mumbai IBN18 Network office: Are journalists a soft target now?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 04:31 PM, Nov 20, 2009 | Updated at 04:39 PM, Nov 20, 2009 in India

In a brazen act of lawless behaviour, a group of 'Shiv Sainik workers' went on rampage, attacking the office of IBN18 Network office. This is not the first time that journalists have faced the fury of mobs. Are journalists increasingly becoming a soft target?

Who are Maharashtrians? Are they not Indians? Let Balasahebji elucidate this to the Nation. If Mumbai is for Maharashtrians, is not India for all Indians to which Mumbai is also a part? Is Mumbai the household property of the Shivesena hooligans and goons? Whoever planned this attack should be booked and punished in a severe manner.

Thanks for your comments, every inch of land is a part of India, may be Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkatta or KASHMIR.
But i find no comments about Kashmir. If all Indians have right on Mumbai then why not on Kashmir? Can a Indian but a inch of land in Kashmir?

f late, it is true that journalists and Media people are increasingly becoming the soft target. In Tamilnadu rowdies attacked 'Dinakaran' office and three journalists died in theattack;so far no justice has come.similarky,on various occasions, journalists have to risk their lives while performing theie duties. At least now, all the Media people should join together and fight for their safety. To start with, they should vehemently give their voice for the ban on Shiv Sena.

Attack on media in a democratic country is really shameful. Some parties are only known to create such incidents. They do such things to be in the media. Once media stop highlighting these parties and their leaders such incidents will certainly reduced.

Dear Parimal, it's very true but we should also think who is behind the curtian, who is playing games who is going to benefit and who is giving space to do all this. When you will find all this answers i'm sure you will change your thinking about Shiv Sena / MNS.

i think u tv media should unite against these gundas, see who knew raj thackre, a few yrs back, but now he is known on national level, just because of his gunda activities, and that is what they want, if the tv media unites, and impose a total blackout of there daily activities on your respective tv channels, they will stop

Dr B.R Ambedkar a devout marathi, must be crying now in heaven about the loopholes he left in the constitution of India. He never would have imagined..that own Marthi people will be exploited by political parties in future.

There is only one way to stop such nonsense - by passing stringent laws against such acts and ensuring that the laws are applied stringently in such cases. The law should hit them where it hurts them the most - loss of money and ability to stand for elections.

The following steps will ensure that no political party will indulge in such acts of vandalism :
1. Destruction of public / private property should be made a Non-baliable offence and any person caught induging in such acts should be sent to jail for 15 years Rigorous Imprisonment with no option for parole.
2. Any party indulging in such vandalism should be fined the total cost of replacing the destroyed property plus an additional fine for 50% as a deterrent for such acts in future.
3. Government approved independent assayers, with impeccable credentials, should be given the task of assessing the loss and there should not be any recourse for disputing such claims by the involved parties.
4. Any political party involved in any such acts of vandalism should be given 30 days time from date of claim to make payment of the full Claim + Fine.
5. Payment of such amounts should be made to government treasuries whi\o can then reimburse the victims for rebuilding the destroyed assets.
6. In order to prevent political parties from taking legal recourse to dispute the claim and delay payment, a law should be promulgated stating that such suits can be admitted in Courts only if the party submits proof of payment along with the suit.
7. In case the political party just refuses to pay the claim, then the Election Commissioner should be given the power to debar this political party from fielding any candidates for any elections - Parliament, Assembly, Corporation, Muncipal, Panchayat or any other elected body, anywhere in the country till the claim is paid in full with interest for the delay period.

Once such stringent laws are in place you will see that no political party in India will have the guts to go and destroy public / private property in the name of 'spontaneous reactions'.

SHIV SENA or MNS both of this parties have grown because of the coverage and importance given by media to them , once media took a opposite stand it has to pay for its disloyalty .
this parties are taking india towards TALIBANISATION making india next taliban hence in order to save india we must ask for their ban
today they stopped media from speaking truth , next they will take law and order in their hand ...........

“According to us this election is similar to a war. It is a war of independence for the people of Maharashtra. Freedom is not only sought from a foreign rule but also from an unjust and atrocious rule by one’s own people. Continuous load shedding, of rise in power tariff and ever-rising inflation has created unrest in the minds of the common man against the government. From the urban office goers to the big and small farmers in rural areas, everyone is frustrated with the increasing levels of corruption in public offices increasing number of the educated unemployed, deteriorating law and order and housing scarcity. The feeling of repentance in the minds of the common man is evident after the defeat of Marathi candidates in the Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai.”
- Uddhav Thackeray,
Shiv Sena’s Manifesto, 2009 Assembly Elections.

I’ve highlighted what I found to be absurdly ironic & outrageously funny. How they even manage to get hold of words like freedom & independence into their manifesto I have no idea. What sent my eyeballs to the back of my head were two words.. “Created unrest”… Loll!!! Look who’s talking. Also, “Deteriorating law & order”… hahahahahha.. who wrote this??? A stray Gandhian who’s obviously lost in the perplexed & puzzled corridors of Shiv Sena Bhawan. To sum it up.. They dare to write about a “feeling of repentance”. That one, we feel too.
