The computer-based Common Admission Test in around 50 centres across the country were rescheduled on Sunday to allow necessary repairs to be completed at the labs where technical glitches disrupted the exams on the first day.

My son could not take his online exam today at the Crescent
Engineering College Centre, as he and two other student's system had software problems. While all identification process was done, including bi-metric finger-prints, they were clueless about this glitch and did not permit them to go out. They were forced to sit till the exams were over for others. There is no proof that there has been a technical snag and for which reason alone my son and two other students could not take the exam online. There is no word about any re-schedule or the next likely date of exam!My son will be immensely comforted, atleast, if a re-scheduled date of the exam is informed to him.

In India we are yet again confronted by the " chalta hai" attitude .It is such an integral part of every system that we have learnt to live with it.The IIMS claim to be one of the best in the world but I have high disregard about the credibility of the entrance procedure. With the kind of resources they have such a disaster in the entrance exams is unbelieveable.Just goes to justify why so many students have to go abroad for their education. The IIM people think that they are invincible and nothing can question them. Can they answer the questions of a common student who prepares day and night and then in the end he comes to the centre to know that the exam computer is not working! Why do global management schools look at factors like Statement of Purpose,Recommendation Letters,Previous Experience and a Statement of Purpose? All these are as important as the GMAT score sometimes more. But not in India , here the guy who scores better in a exam of 10th class maths and english is considered a better manager than someone who may be a better performer in the real world.I am looking forward to the day when the Bill for regulation of foreign universities is passed and then students will have more options.I agree still that there is no doubt the best students are still at the IIMs .But that does not mean that the others are any less if not better. There needs top be a significant change in our evaluation system and not just living in the text books. Why dont we have any major business sucess stories at the IIMs , except for a few, like at Harvard and Stanford? When will success stories like Google and Facebook emerge from Indian B schools?Only time will tell.

Come on give it a break
Just like One swallow does not make a summer
One crash does not make on line test a trash
It's a bold beginning
of on line test's long inning
After all it was some technical hitches
that can be easily solved with a few here and there stitches
Let's have that trust
that in IT we are the BEST
To err is just common and human
to make a big deal for the world to see is CNN-IBN

Dont say to err is human, to forgive is divine, bovine etc.
We pay 1400 rs as test fee, prepare for years, sacrifice many things in life --- just for CAT- a 2 hr exam deciding our life.
Can anyone expect a troubled environment?
Shud v bear d brunt simply becoz Prometric is not meticulous and their planning being ridiculous?
One cant forgive the Prometric of IIM's considering the amount of effort one puts in CAT.
After all, all v r asking is a positive atmosphere for giving test. If they fail in provoding this. Shud v not protest?
No one can bring the life of the test takers who lost their CAT battle.
It's not an EXAM it's LIFE.
There r no second chances in LIFE.
V cant wait for years for the IIM's to execute the test error free.

Hi Jeejejee,
Just like One swallow does not make a summer
One crash does not make on line test a trash
this is not just one crash, there are numerous problems, the infrastructure at the centers is below average, the test administrators have not undergone any training, they just cannot solve any problem for every issue they call the prometric guys, this is an important exam for us they cannot just decide for themselves that ok the paper pencil format is too difficult for us to conduct so from now on we will conduct CBT...this is ridiculous, there are many issues of transparency ...like a question in today's exam waas incorrect ...they have even barred us from discussing the test...
only god knows
:(

Giving the whole process to an American Administrator is the biggest mistake IIM's have done. They must have trusted Indian Testing Services Provider Companies to hold CAT online. This is the Biggest Mistake in Modern India.

Hi,
I am Sandeep Goyal from Bangalore and my take on the issue is:
"Please refund our money because there is no other means which will hit you hard and make you realize how you are toying with the career of so many students.IIM's are leaders in imposing huge fee burden on students but when it comes to quality you stand last.I am deeply hurted and disheartened."

Bits-Pilani , one of the best universities in the country has had an online test since 3 years... so why cannot an IIM do so....? ,
the server crash creates a lot of pressure on the aspiring students.
Seems, the IIMs cannot manage the servers :)

It is really shameful that highly recognized IIMs are not able to hiccup free online test. If the question is whether or not India is ready for online tests yet, My side is YES of course and to support this response is the fact that BITS - Pilani conducts their online entrance every year for more than 3 lakhs students. It is hardly any difficult and even African countries can do that. If we are still unable to conduct these tests then forget about Unique ID project in which govt is investing a lot. That would be disaster in that case.
I feel this is partly due to relax attitude at govt run institutes including IIMs as well. Now is the right time to do the privatization of eduction sector and pvt firms would be able to run the sector better than the current staff. Right now the IIMs' and IITs' faculty are busy in protesting against the govt for better pays. Don't expect them to take extra burden of conducting online exams. These guys are unable to create a decent homepage for them; what else can you expect from them?
I feel pity for the students who still try to go to IIMs and become xl sheet monkeys after graduating. A better choice is to write GMAT and come out to understand the business aspect of globalized world.
