The recent Telangana row has once again brought the focus on the demand for separate statehood. From an administration point of view, smaller states are easier to manage. Do you agree that smaller states ensure better governance?

Why not? When one state has two economically and culturally different regions, one being prosperous and the other backward, if corrective measures are not taken to uplift that backward region, there is a great danger that only the prosperous region gets all the attention, funding, new industries, canals, and opportunities, while the people of backward region keep losing out, even in their own region. When such a condition prevails far too long, strong corrective measures are to be taken, and if that does not work, a new state is one of the best solutions. Recently, India created three new states- Uttaranchal (from Uttar Pradesh), Chattisgarh (from Madhya Pradesh), and Jharkand (from Bihar). Why can't we have Telangana (from Andhra Pradesh) now? Moreover, the proposal to carve Telangana was put along with the above three states. Only due to certain political compunctions Telangana was deleted from that list. India has the capacity and requirement to take on few more states, that would improve administration, reduce the influence of certain big states, allow interior and backward regions get attention and care from the center.
Fighting for a new taluk, or a new district or a new state is not same as asking for a new country. Or is it? If that is case, no new taluks or panchayats should be carved, no new districts should be created. Can't we look at newer regions taking care of changes in demographics, new cultural issues, and new aspirations, needs and wishes? Creating new states is constitutional and within the nationals interests.
The reasons for separate Telangana are plenty.
Some of them are:
1. Telangana is less developed compared to Andhra.
2. Rivers like Krishna and Godavari flow through Telangana, but the water from the dams are sent to Andhra.
3. Because of less literacy and backwardness of Telangana people, most of the new jobs, postings in government and education are given to people from Andhra.
4. Except for common language, the people of Andhra and Telangana have different dialects, histories, cultural systems, different food habits.
Right now the coal is mined and electricity is produced in Telangana but most of it is supplied to Andhra region, while districts of Medak and Adilabad have four hours of electricity during the day during summer. In the new state, these districts will be fed with electricity. The rivers of Krishna and Godavari flow through Telangana, and the dams are in Telangana, but the canals carrying the water go to Andhra. In the new state, there would be new canals bringing water to the arid regions of Telangana bringing in prosperity to the farmers and local population. Most of the jobs, in government and education, are filled up by people from Andhra. In the new state, these jobs will go the local population.
Recently created Uttaranchal has introduced many sops for new industries because of which many industries are being set up in that state. Chattisgarh has opened up its university to many people from India and is now for the first time introducing electricity to the interior regions. Jharkand which supplied Bihar with most of the raw materials now has its own industry and income.

You should be living in aura!!
Rivers like Krishna and Godavari do not originate in telangana to flow into Andhra!! They orginate in Maharastra and Karnataka. We get only excess water of these states into our state. Water is not decided based on the Central Water Comission reports. This is not the glass of water that your drink.
You get jobs based on merit. There are many jobless people in the world, its ones responsibility to go to the next level. There is Ministry of Education available centrally that decides the educations standards. Its the people who are around you, your masters and your parents that are responsible to get to the child correctly.

No smaller states may not ensure better governance because there is hardly any governance anywhere. Curruption, hunger, price rise, lack of civic facilities-water, electicity, schools, employmeny opportunities, lack of medical facilities, high infant mortality, complete lack of system for the poor to go, the complete helplessness of citizens in the complete dark regions of the country dont deserve any governence.
What the least they want is some one to hear and see their plight . . not to rescue them from their miserable condition but to show some sympathy. Telengana is a place like this. Come and see . . before you come up with any elitist discussion on your channel . . political debate . . yes but do that with political scientists who understand the region and issues not power mongers from the divisis parties who are ready for their pie . . . beware real sharks are out there on all sides since 40 years now.

Telangana movement is an age old one. The current movement may be ignited by disgruntled politicians but it is now spear headed by all non political groups like students, lawyers, teachers, employees. No movement can gain such momentum without common man support.

In the Recent span of days i have come across this question many times.
I would like to share my opinion on this.
I strongly feel that Successive Governments and the Ruling Political Parties have not only neglected to develop Telangana but have systematically exploited it, denying its share of funds, grabbing its rich, fertile land, exploiting its mineral riches and impoverishing its people. Telangana People have been looked down upon, our Language derided, our customs and traditions scorned at, our land grabbed, our houses snatched away. We have been discriminated against in recruitment and developmental programmes.
Education----------------
Education is recognised as one of the fundamental human rights. And yet this human right has been denied
to the people of Telangana. Telangana accounts for half of the state's population but we have a very less percent of the educational institutions from primary to college level in our region.
Irrigation ------------
Irrigation is one of the main reason, we have more cultivatable area compare to Andhra and Rayalseema. But Andhra crops are being irrigated under canal irrigation system, whereas our telangana lands are receiving canal waters.
Employment in Government----------
The entire government and its various departments are dominated by people of Coastal Andhra.
Industrial Development----------
Industrialisation of Telangana has been restricted to the Hyderabad city and Ranga Reddy distict due to the physical proximicity to the seat of the government. Several Industries in Telangana have been allowed to become sick with government refusing to help out to restore them.
These are very few reasons and there are many other factors for which Telangana has to seperate.
Even in cinema industry also showing partiality for telangana people , they are not giving chances to talented actors, directors in telangana
Minerals like coal , iron ore mostly natural resources r not using for telangana development
they r shifting the budget to kadapa and andhra .
Let us not waste our valuable votes by voting to the candidates who look for only themselves.

I am saddened by seeing visuals of youth going on rampage attacking buses and public property over the telengana issue. I remember the anti-hindi agitation in TN in 1965 with similar overtones of statehood/rather separate tamil land. The end result was a generation of tamil youngsters not knowing the national(?)language. Similarly KSR is using ppl of telengana as a tool in his visious plan of getting CM'S post.Sadly, the youth hav fallen in to the same trap. As already explained by my frds in previous posts, creating a new state has never solved any of the existing problems in India. Rather KSR cud suggest /bring out a blue-print of measures which can be taken to improve the region. This will make him a tall and a towering personality. Rather the state is already reeling from the crisis of losing a performing CM in the form of YSR.Jus now it is limping bck to normality. Now it is faced with yet another crisis. On a final note, though not telugu myself, I would not like to see a divided andhra. AP was first formed linguistic state. Potti sriramalu wud hav shed tears to see the Telugu Land now being divided 4 selfish reasons. I m afraid that once out of AP, telengana will be like an orphaned child. Now wat is needed is a redressing of the relationship, not separation.

its the desire of the people of telangana region.......there is nothing wrong in it .they were asking for a seperate state due to the partial, selfish rule of the andhra region......
really the people of this region were sufffering from many problems due to improper governance........they didnt hav the bascic sanitation,,,,,,,,
the people of this region are not fighting for kcr ..but for their region.....seperate state......
and as we know our ambedhkar said small states favour the people and governence will b easy where the proper help ,ruling will touch a common man more than in a combined state....
i wish congress will make a statement of seperate state..as soon as possible....

Today Telegana? and tomorrow. who knows, the politicians might take another card in their hands for their own benefits. this should not be encouraged at all. this will impact the integral india. already out country is divvied based on linguistic basis which is creating issues within maharastra. I am not supporting this. its the AP govnt who should call the people supporting telegana and talk to them and bring them under good gevernence under the state AP.

Its not a right solution to create small states acheiving social, economical and political goals for the welfare of the society. It only creates plenty of demands for increasing number of new states. After Uttaranchal, now demand is increasing for Harit pradesh in U.P.It only instigate small groups to demand new states just to achieve their ends.As far as i am cocerned to achieve itegrated devlopment there should be awareness in the society to send sensible representative in the parliament, improvement in political machinery and its management.

i really would not like to see andhra pradesh be broken into two.
it would be like breaking india to further pieces. this telangana row is just another of the games being played by our very good actor politicans. and i feel there is no fit person to rule even if a seperate state comes. it will only ruein the state . u can see the way the struggle is going for the state. its a well planned thing by some politican. i am shocked to see students indulging in violence. for a country where gandhi was born who followed ahimsa. shame on the student to behave like cheap road rowdys. this telengan is the idea of only some criminal minded people. pls dont break india further.
