Telangana row: Do smaller states ensure better governance?

Telangana row: Do smaller states ensure better governance?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 11:05 AM, Dec 08, 2009 | Updated at 11:56 AM, Dec 10, 2009 in IBNPolitics

The recent Telangana row has once again brought the focus on the demand for separate statehood. From an administration point of view, smaller states are easier to manage. Do you agree that smaller states ensure better governance?

I just dont understand the mentality of the people of Telangana. There are so many learned men in there,Cant they catch hold of the MP's and MLA's for the betterment of the area.Creation of small states is not the solution for the economic development.People of telangana have voted their leaders and they should be responsible if their leaders are not taking proper action of the downtrodden areas.
Mr.Chandrashekar Rao is just playing with the innocent and illiterate people's feelings to come into power.
Time can only say what he can do for the state or may be for himself.

I totally disagree with the concept of dividing the exsisting states into smaller ones for better governance. This trend will defenitely affect our country in the long run. I wonder what these political parties are trying achive by diving the country into smaller parts?

hi all
i am frm telangana and my constituency MP is MR. so called great KCR frm mahaboob nagar district mr. KCR as u said is the person to be responsiable for the telangana state as far as i know we should stand for the unite AP. not for any separate state as development is concerned mahaboobnagar is the 23rd district in development basis inspite of the KCR as MP and so many digniteries or so called ministers frm the district why is to so the telangana agitation is only a political stunt and very depressing one for the ppl of telangana when ur ministers r not willing to develop ur own districts hw can u expect mr. KCR will make wonders after telangana is formed wn he has'nt visited the district even once after the election the one time he came on spl helicopter with the cost of 1crore from karinagar to mahaboobnagar. he is the worst cheap politician i ever seen and telangana development is rest on there own local leaders not by getting a seperate telengana state i strongly oppose the state of telengana as boundries will create more ill feelings with the telugu speaking ppl, lets stand and unite for the united telugu land, and lets say no divided state or divided polotics. hate these polotics and poloticians for there own growth they r dividing the ppl and drawing the lines, i think we should take some lessons from other coutries were they welcoming the ppl of other countries heartly and we still leave in the backward era.

My Dear Friends,I remember going to Southern Madhya Pradesh in the early 90's, there was absolutely nothing called infrastructure or transport connectivity there, the roads ware in very bad shape in Raipur and Jagadalpur but after the Bifurcation of Madhya Pradesh and the formation of Chattisghar things have changed tremendously, it is so very much developed from what it was, wonderful roads, good hospitals, Transport Connectivity, Etc. This is one very good example of better and focused governance, I am 100% for the formation of Telengana for the simple reason, the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warrangal, Mehaboob Nagar, Karim Nagar, Khammam,Etc which form the Telengana are the most least developed Districts in the whole of South India and has been always getting the Step Brotherly treatment from the Andhra Politicians from South and Central Andhra who ware always in the helm of its power. I also want other larger states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Etc to be further bifurcated into smaller states so that they get better governance, focused growth and better allocation of Central Funds for the development of these newly formed states.

Before i write i wish to clarify to novice readers that telangana will not be a small state but in terms of size it would be around 15th state of 30 states.

now coming to the issue of smaller states ensuring better governance : let us a take a look holistically.BIMARU states were the largest states in india. states like punjab ,haryana ,gujarat have developed exceptionally. states like jharkhand suffer from naxal thenstates like WB also suffer from the same.states like mizo assam suffer from sovereignty so does states like J&K. so the problems with smaller states also exist with bigger states and states irrespective of size cannot guarentee better governance.

I welcome wholeheartedly the decision of GOI and also claim that GOI is correcting the biggest mistakes it has made to constitution democracy and people .

Regards
Rajeshwar

Smaller states can be better governed only if it is ruled by disciplined and non corrupt politicians. A small state like Goa shows all of India how corrupt and in-disciplined politicians can make people of a small state suffer with zero development and incompetent law enforcement.

The Question is:It is not the matter of good governance or better manageability. Its time we think rationally.Dividing states on basis of linguistic, cultural, regional aspects is utterly uncalled for.The present agitation that is so called as a "REVOLUTION" by some political parties is apparently the result of political apathy(including both the past and present ruling and opposition parties of state and center) towards the region, corruption and poverty. This region has been a source of political mileage to whichever party it may concern. The emotional tensions cannot be a basis on which the division should be based upon. I want the people to understand that the politicians will not let develop the state, even if it remains as one or gets bifurcated. If they really wanted to develop Telangana, it could and should have been done. There is ample money and resources to develop the region and the country but our so called politicians would not do it for "THE SO CALLED DEVELOPMENT CRIPPLES THE GROWTH OF POLITICAL LEADERS"..
The answer to ongoing agitation lies in making a resolution of eradicating political apathy, corruption and poverty. This can be realized if the political parties vying for a separate statehood are made accountable and they give a concrete proof of working towards every aspect that they are projecting as the basis for division...
ALL SAID AND DONE NO POLITICAL PARTY IN INDIA IS ACCOUNTABLE TO ITS PEOPLE

more state more corruption....they so called leaders cant handle one state together how they can handle one more to run a state one has to be educate which none of this are they only want to make money.( our system has gone to worst )

we were the first to demand a separate state on the basis of language….now we are again first in demanding a separate state based on ethnicity….

where ‘ll it lead to….can one imagine how many states can India as a country accommodate? we already ‘ve 28….and there’s a demand for atleast 10-15 more….

they think about only Telangana, you think about Andhra, rest ‘ll think about Rayalaseema…..who thinks about India ?? Shiv Sena thinks about Marathi people, Tamil Nadu thinks about Tamil people, some want Gorkhaland, some Bodoland, some Vidharbha, Poorvanchal, Harit Pradesh, Uttara Kannada, Coorg and even Jammu as a separate state…..who thinks about India??

Can states exist without country ?? A million dollar question!!
