Justice For Ruchika: Should a higher court take up the case on a fast track to ensure justice for Ruchika and her family?

Justice For Ruchika: Should a higher court take up the case on a fast track to ensure justice for Ruchika and her family?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 08:28 AM, Dec 24, 2009 in India

Ruchika Girhotra, a 14-year-old tennis player, was molested by then Haryana police IG in Panchkula in 1990. Three years later, Ruchika killed herself, which her friend and case witness Aradhana attributes to the harassment of Ruchika and her family by those in power.

Why not it be a time bound trial say get all the facts and decide the things within one month. whosoever don't cooperate get him to the line and make him an accomplic in crime and punish them also. Its shame on our Judicial and investigative system that Justice has been delayed for so long and culprit is still running free. Mr.Chief Justice can you take notice of this thing. This is just one case, I don'y know how many more would be suffering just because those cases could not be highlighted as this one such as of Prof. Sabharwal. No doubt with such safety standard no common man would like to live in India.

After following Ruchika's case for almost one and a half months now, all I can say is that "All Izz Not Well". This case enlightens us once again the level of corruption and bureaucracy persists in our country. I was going through Chetan Bhagat’s article in the editorial page today in TOI and he is correct in stating that it’s not my, his or her problem but it’s our problem. Till we decide what should be our approach right from voting and acquiring driving license or a passport to setting up a business, we will see more of such Ruchikas falling prey to our bureaucratic and corrupt system.

I am happy though that the efforts of media and people have at least brought the case to resonate against deaf ear drums of our government officials and at last justice is being done. But 19 years of trauma the family has faced can’t be justified even by providing capital punishment to the guilty. Hope this case sets an example in future for faster resolution of cases pending in the Indian judicial system.

what about other such cases dangling in courts for years: the murder of her daughter by former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, having political and religious clout, is hanging fire since ages!

Yes, a sort of honor killing!! Shame on our system and we all must hang our heads in shame. In our country political clout derived from religious clout and vice versa thwarts justice. Look at Sister Abhaya of Kerala reported to have been murdered by %u2018holy%u2019 fathers like this cases hang fire; more time you let pass more pieces of evidence get lost or destroyed. Who benefits but the perpetrators!!

I fail to understand one thing, when a perticular case is highlighted in the print media why then only the state, police and judiciary which are considered to be the 3 strong pillars of democracy act, were these 3 pillars hiding for 19 years or sleeping in some store room.!!..Regards, Abhijit

Hi I am Praveen from Andhra Paradesh.Currently I am living in United states. When I heard Ruchika's story I had deeply moved for her and her family.Rathore is a criminal and such persons should not be excused. Our Judicial system is really bad.Rathore should have been hanged to death by now.It is because of money and muscle power that Rathore is surviving for these many days. Finally my deep condolences to Ruchika and her family and may her soul rest in peace in heaven.

All said and done, Ruchika could have been one of India's tennis players. It was not fate that took her away. It was the suspension that her school awarded her in terms of 'indiscipline'. A truly disciplinary action could have saved her. The sad and harshly real part lies here. The person who should restore discipline faltered in his step.

Secondly, taking away his medals is good thing in the light of his wrongdoings. The medals make up for all the clout he had worn all these years which he had earned in good times. This untimely ceremony will not bring back Ruchika but will surely have an effect on the officer concerned.

Due to one officer's indiscipline, many more will be put under a cloud of doubt. And it is quite irritating when the Court takes such a long time to make a verdict that is fair by all terms. The length of time a case takes to reach a culpable end tests one's patience. There should be a time limit otherwise it would take a lifetime.

I heard that High court and Supreme court judges enjoy 3 months vacation in summer. Govt should stop this nonsense. This is a legacy of the Raj when the British judges needed to have vacations in cool comfort of Masoorie or Nainitaal to get away from the hot Indian summer. The British have gone and the desi judges can certainly work during summer if the desi worker can work in shifts in a factory in the same hot summer. With millions of cases pending and millions poor under-trials languishing in prisons India can not afford the luxury of judges enjoying vacations at the expense of justice.
