Indo-Pak schizophrenia over IPL | Read blog

TimePosted by Rajdeep Sardesai at 12:40 AM, Jan 29, 2010 in Blogs

Indo-Pak cricket, like diplomatic relations between the two countries, suffers from acute schizophrenia. Rewind to January 1999 when a Chennai crowd gave a standing ovation

First of all we as a country should be very clear as to when and upto which extent we need to interact with our neighbour mainly Pakistan & China. As long as nothing happens everything is normal between India & Pakistan. But when something happens like what happened in Mumbai last year, everything comes to a halt. It is high time India needs to take a call where to Stop and follow Hot Pursuit instead of just do plain taking and gathering simpathies from International Communities.!. When twin towers in US came down, did they talk to anyone.!!. Look at China, do they listen or look at gathering international comments when they have to deal with their internal situations Just by talking one does not become big, one has to show some action also.!. For the last 60 years we have had this situation which is like blow hot, blow cold kind of a relation ship & it high time we re-look into our strategies first & then talk about IPL & other games. We cannot afford to have a proxmy war in one hand & other activities on the other hand. Here I would also like to add, in my opinion government of india should have been very clear first and advised IPL according in order to avoid this kind of a controversy in the first place. Regards, Abhijit

There is no need of cricketers from hostile country that supports terror.

It is Pakistan that has repeatedly provoked India.
I do not understand why you guys in the media are getting worked up - all in the name of freedom of expression (that extends sometimes to Husain painting Indian gods in the nude and not to Cartoons like the Danish ones - very selectively secular, that!)

Whatever be the issue, I find we are more than eager to sacrifice certain core issues - someone enters your home (Mumbai) slaps you in your face, terrorizes your family members and you remain unprovoked.

In school, we were taught a poem by Robert Frost. The last stanza, it was said, was Nehru's favourite. It ends like this ..... And miles to go before I sleep"

well, the same poet wrote another one - Good fences make good neighbours.

Suggest someone reads it

Sriram

I am a common man and whatever you say may be right, but according to me when it comes to the name "PAKISTAN", they had not been friendly since our 60 years of independence, so I think that every Indian Citizen is unhappy with pakistan then why Mr. Khan has soft corner for them ? Secondly as per me pakistan should be boycotted by all means viz: word, trade, relations, game etc by all Indians.

According to me Mr. Khan should apologise to every Indian for having soft corner for pakistan

Hai, I do agree with you, however we Indians have to understand that they are also human beings. The time when we see that India and Pakistan as two different nations, there we make mistake. we are not giving our best to understand the other, which is greatest mistake we humans make. We go with our ego. Every human needs the other to live here on earth. According to me we have to make relationships with every nation. We have to be willing and ready to help one another. Then I am sure that there will not be any kind of wrong perspectives in our mind. Be a human rather than dividing the groups, nations,etc....

You are saying that we are undermining the political authority of the Govt. of Pakistan by refusing to resume talks. Is it not naive to assume that the Pakistan Govt. holds reins of its foreign policy. It is a common knowledge that it is the Pakistan Army and ISI which has firm grip over its foreign policy. I wonder what are we supposed to 'discuss' with the Pakistan Govt. when it does not have any authority and its Prime Minister cannot assure that there won't be another Mumbai like attack in India? In this atmosphere, every aspect of bilateral relationship including Cricket is bound to suffer. It's high time we stop being apologetic everytime there are noises from across the border as if we have committed a sin or blunder.

I agree all that you say as always rajdeep ji and also to what shahrukh khan says and i like him a lots but please clear our doubts on the following matters please-

a) Was Sharukh Khan part of the strategy among all the owners of the IPL teams to keep out the pakistani players.

But then why he changed his stand -

b)Did he changed his stand due to his large pakistani fan following abroad which he feared might have deserted him before the release of his new movie. Was that a business decision.

If they were business decisions then some people ought to be hurt. Shahrukh bhai you played a double game and created some problems for your self.

Dear rajdeep we are taking 10 steps with pakistan for peace process but they are pushing us 30steps behind, they were talking with india same time they were palning kargil also.we have seen the double standard of pakistan.do you believe that 3or4 peoplw playing in ipl will change the entire equation between india & pakistan.only when people of pakistan revolt aganist these pakistan will becpme a progressive nation.it does not mean that we stay away from them but we should keep a distance from them .pakistan citizens should put pressure on their leaders regarding this.

Dear Rajdeep ji,

I agree on you most of points, however, I fail to understand one thing when all these blasts happened in India for years, nobody from pakistan stood and voiced against it in pakistan, where were so called educated and moderate pakistanis...how come they don't realise that after all life is life, killing is not good for any cause...I have never seen their media making noice or raising their voice....Only in india because of democracy or just to be in limelight we start to criticize our own people when they boycott pakistan..It has become a fashion...People who are making noice regarding not chosing pakistani players in ipl are those whose family members have not been hurt or killed in any of the terrorist activities or bomb blasts...Please go to the family of the people who were suffered from this and ask their opinions. It is easy to be idealistic however, we should not forget the ground realities...People forgot the statement just made by Mr. Pravez Mussaraff that he used all the money against India given by US. My suggestion would be let's cut off all the ties, be it trading or cultural with them ask them to clean all anti terrorist organizations training camp then we can start the dialogue. Let them not earn a single rupee from india to be used against india.

Well Said Mr AnilRana.

Do not take Sena into consideration. Just do this.

Please go to the family of the people who were suffered from 26/11 and ask their opinions. It is easy to be idealistic (especially when you have vested business interest)however, we should not forget the ground realities.

NO TALKS, NO ART, NO GAME UNTIL AGGRESSION IS STOPPED AGAINST INDIA

Mr Rajdeep

I would like to convey my strong disagreement with your views about the issue of pak players being denied entry in this years IPL. I have never been able to understand why people in this country sit in plush AC rooms and talk about everyone? On an average at least one soldier either is killed or critically injured in insurgency related incidents. Who is responsible for that? I would like to give you an analogy. Lets say you were an investor and would like to invest in some stocks. The first thing that you would like to see and verify would be the track record of the particular stock. Right? Will you buy a stock which has not only been performing bad in last 6 years but has been displaying a declining trend from the day it was listed in the market? Will you? Then what makes you appease this country which has not only displayed, practiced and preached hatred for India but has killed equal no of people who would have died in case of a war.Who says we have fought only 4 wars (including 47 &99) with pakistan (capital p not used intentionally). We may be the only country who is fighting the longest and stealthiest war ever fought in the recent history.Kindly meet a soldier who has lost his limbs to a mine blast and ask him does he want to see them play here. You want them to earn money for sponsoring more attacks.I shouldnt go to my neighbours house to trouble him and should also make sure he is also not allowed the same liberty. I somehow picture my country as a person whose neighbour comes to his house and slaps him and goes back. The very next day he comes back and my country opens the dorr to just receive one more tight slap. For two days the neighbour is not allowed to come in and on the third day the story repeats. We have people killing our nationals for decades and we still want to give MFN status to that country. Why this appeasment? just want to ask you one question. Can you in wildest of your dreams imagine a scenario where in India sponsors a terror attack in China and they ask us to come and play in a friendly soccer match? Why so much of appeasment?????????????WAKE UP FOR GOD SAKE WAKE UP

Why Indians, especially the media persons, are obsessed with Pakistan? We have nothing in common with them, other than the borders of LOC.Pakistanis live in a seperate world where there is no democracy and the country is a declared Islamic State. Why we should tolerate all these nonsense about shared culture or even the game of cricket? There are some people migrated from Pakistan when the country was partitioned and these poor souls still live in their past. Why we should treat them as our guests when the last time a group of guests called on us from the sea they were armed to the teeth and held the whole country to ransom, killed our brave sons and one of them, now enjoying Biriyani in the jail.I think we should behave with more maturity, forget Pakistan, ignore them and move forward. The Home Minister appears to be very eager to provide fool proof security to them while extremists are killing innocent villagers and police men on a daily basis and he,instead, should have concentrated on the job of ensuring security to Indians and leave IPL to Lalit Modi to make money on the business of cricket.
