Masand Movie Review: Rann, embarrassingly ill-researched

Masand Movie Review: Rann, embarrassingly ill-researched | Read story

TimePosted by Rajeev Masand at 11:35 PM, Jan 29, 2010 in Movies

Ram Gopal Varma threatens to expose the politics of television news.

I guess Rajeev is actually embarrassingly ill-researched or rather embarrassingly into favoritism. It is obvious from past reviews how much he conveniently overlooks all issues in a Johar or a Chopra movie. And he found problems even in India's most watched movie 3 Idiots but for "Kurbaan" he had a lot of nice things to say. Going by people's verdict to the above mentioned movies we know whats going on.
So, I would rather prefer not to watch/read Masand's reviews and probably switch to some other site to check reviews of movies.
I saw 3 other critics have given a thumbs up to this movie... all from "reputed" channels. There would be obvious issues in any movie but then you need to look at the bigger picture.
It is high time that IBN looked at someone more sensible and person of integrity to review movies.

Well looks like Masand can't take the reality. It is no hidden fact that there is rampant corruption in media.Best example can be taken from you only. Many times u praise the movies that are not even worth mentioning. I think u understood what I meant. As far as the movie is concerned"TOO GOOD"

Mr Masand ,
I always liked your hypothetico deductive thinking .More than that I use your reviews to improve my english .
I watched Rann today,I thoroughly enjoyed the seriousness of the movie , smirking all the way thinking atleast something or somebody making an effort to take on media .
Good job I saw the movie before reading your review ,as I am able to be a critic to your review now .Previously I chose to see movies only after reading your reviews ,in the bargain ,god knows how many movies I have really missed watching .
Hope your review is not biased as you represent a big media channel who may be at the wrong end of journalism ethics .

Do I see some conflict of interest here : ). I would rather watch an ill-researched movie than an ill-researched news story, which our channels manage to provide in an endless supply. Not just that, they manage to fabricate non existing stories, stretch trivial stories to a hyperbole; and sometimes even harm national interests to protect their commercial interests.

Madhur Bhandarkar worked with RGV earlier in his career and he, among a few other directors of this generation, seem to be influenced by RGV's genre of film making.

I haven't watched it yet, and in all fairness it might be actually a boring movie, but if it manages to give some sense of embarrassment to our media, I would say ..Paisa Wasool!

Rajeev,
I just saw Rann as well. Reading your first two paragraphs, I have to say unfortunately that yuo have completely missed the point of the movie and his dialogue at the end. An extremely well made movie with competent performances from all principal characters.

Probably it was like looking at a mirror for Masand while watching this movie.. Coz, everything mentioned in this review shows how guilty few media channels are by sensationalizing news. Classic example is our own Masand who believes in TRP's and gaining all the attention by hook or crook. Do we remember his liking towards the johar's, king khan's & chopra's and disliking toward veteran Aamir(3 idiots review for reference) and RGV ofcourse. Its high time that the reviewer does some soul searching and catch the true and righteous path of conveying the honest and frank opinion to the public but not the individualistic and mean opinion as this and past reviews. God bless!

rightly said!
This media people always bash RGV but at the end audience like us decide whether RGV can survive or not it looks like RGV has made RANN expose low lifes like film critics.
