When I switched on the TV today morning this was the flash news on all channels -
“AR Rahman wins Two Grammy’s”
This has become familiar news for Indians these days which is one of the many achievements this man has given us. Every single week some news about him gets published, few of which I happened to read in last few weeks.
“Rahman wins Padma Bushan ”
“Rahman’s song gets shortlisted for making it to this year’s Academy Awards nominees”
“Rahman nominated for Grammy”
“Rahman performs in Sydney inspite of the tense situation”
“Steve Waugh calls A.R Rahman the Sachin Tendulkar of Indian Music”
To me one massive achievement of this genius has been bringing the international music exposure to the Indians and the vice versa \" not only to the music fraternity but to the common public as well.
Even the common man who knows very less about the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Oscars, Grammys are hearing these terms regularly these days.
He has given a sense of pride to every Indian, a sense of belief that Indians can scale greater heights.
People of Chennai especially will take a special pride , when they happen to tell about their city to any westerner now they need not take pains in locating it to them in terms of Latitudes / longitudes , ARR has made of lives simple , just say \" “I hail from place where AR Rahman was born”.
Talent was always there in India, in fact my personal opinion would be there are lot more geniuses in India as good as ARR if not greater than him, but how many have widened their vision?
How many have utilized their talents to expand their reach? How many have realized the real value of their works? How many have got what they really deserved? How many have earned what they are worth?
He has instated this that every talent has its own worth most of us are not aware of the real worth.
He has attained a stature of an icon, a role model to the Indian youth.
But what are we taking away from his life full of achievements?
Here is one thought that arises when I think about AR Rahman.
When ARR or for that matter , any recognized creator look back at their life when they reach their twilight, a sense of completion fills them, they think about “Their own creations”, their brain Childs, what they conceived?
I feel that gives the true sense of satisfaction. And I feel that should be looked onto by the youth of India.
About what will you tell that \" “That was my creation” when you reach your twilight?
As an IT professional, I don’t know the answer today, even before i begin my work I sign up that \" “Whatever I create is that of the company!!!”
Yes we sign up to sell our creativity intentionally, selling is secondary but what do we do to keep our creativity going? And do we really know the worth of our creativity?
That is what we draw from the lives of these geniuses.
The belief that I can be a creator, not only a creator but a successful one.
To me bringing this inspiration to fellow Indians has been the greatest achievement of A.R. Rahman more than the Coveted metals.
