Team India loses first Test under Dhoni. Discuss

Team India loses first Test under Dhoni. Discuss

Team India's first Test loss under Mahendra Singh Dhoni has, once again, set tongues wagging. Critics and keen watchers of the game have been discussing threadbare about the team selection, line-up etc. This loss has also put India's Test position at stake. As South Africa outplayed India at the Nagpur Test, the absence of Dravid and Laxman was felt strongly. What do you feel about Team India's test loss?

Indian players are always a suspect facing genuine fast bowling. They were blown away by Steyn who, unlike recent Australians, is an extremely disciplined bowler. We also felt the absence of Dravid (the true wall) and Laxman (the artist). Tendulkar does not evoke the confidence that these two do.

Honestly, we don't have the material that will sustain us as Top test playing nation for long.

Consider the way we collapsed.. this is not to blame the players. Only way out is to change the attitude (become consistent, disciplined and methodical), make domestic tournaments more competitive, have national team players also participate in domestic tournaments, cut distractions, increase fitness.. the list is long..

There is not one player of the caliber of Sunny, Vengsarkar, Vishwanath etc. in the team. With this, it was a known outcome.

Well it is not right. Dhoni is one of the best skeeper india has ever have. This is not good to judge him on the basis of first test.

The simple reason in my opinion is 1.the imaturity shown by the selectors 2.lack of consistency 3.spinners really dissapointed 4.poor show in the fielding department as india drops too many catches in this match 5.injury to our key test players like dravid and laxman who had been rescuing india from trouble and helps win matches on their own and 6.our fast bowlers lack fire from the front;apart from zaheer nobody impress the critics.

May be India lost the match because of its immature middle order or you can say lack of consistency but one thing was for sure none of the viewers felt that it was the match between top 2 test sides. This MSD's first and the biggest defeat in test cricket. I agree to Mr Ian Chappell that INDIA is not a "LONG TERM" test champion.

Current Rating:

On the last day of the test match, there was an interesting conversation between the commentators, Daryll Culinan and L Sivaramakrishnan about who the better batsman was-Ricky Ponting or Sachin Tendulkar. Now LS, like any other typically biased Indian parroted the usual praises for Tendulkar and argued his case. (Are they paid to do so?)Cullinan thought otherwise. This was at the backdrop of another test match which the so called little master failed to lead us to the desired result. This has all along been the story of his career. Yes cricket is a team game. But never has he been able to do justice to his reputation and take the bull by the horns and steer us to a win or draw when it most matters. It often seems that for Sachin and many other players, there is an ’I’ in the team, and that too in the capitals.
We have seen Indian cricketers more often than not chasing statistics and records such as the no. of centuries, wickets instead of the all important goal of victory. They are not the first ones to do so as they are only treading along the well beaten paths of the likes of Gavaskar and Kapil Dev who gave so much importance to individual records. During the test match Gavaskar was heard mentioning about an insignificant ‘world record’ that Gambhir could have had- to score consecutive 50s in the most no. of tests. Now what is so much significant about such an irrelevant record? This is the kind of thinking that has blighted Indian cricket for long. Yes if you perform consistently well it will reflect in your statistics. But the important thing is consistently performing well to the benefit of the team. I have seen many a Indian batsman shift gears when they reach the 90s. It’s as if they have dropped the anchor and are extra cautious not to lose their wickets and consequently the run rate suffers.
And when they reach a 100, they drop their guard and become careless or swing their bat blindly as if they had done all they can and lose their wicket even when the target is far ahead. What does it matter if you are out on 99 instead of 100 if your team wins? The Aussies play like that. They are concerned about individual records in the least and so they are often the winners. That’s the winning mentality. Perhaps we love this game so much because we can celebrate a century by our batsman even when the team loses. No other game gives such a leeway for celebration. You either win or you sulk and so naturally we are good in none other.
For me, personally Sachin was never in the league of Bradman, Sobers, Richards and Lara. When he retires he will have all the records he wanted and all the money to last a few generations. But Indian cricket would be where it always has been, in the second rung.

It is a fashion in India to blame Sachin when the team loses.. you cannot compare him to any of the gentleman you have mentioned purely because they have not played for the duration that he has and neither have they played the forms of cricket which he has.. Sachin has given his best to the country at all times, but please understand it is a team game.. We did not loose the match because of our batting.. we lost because of bowling.. after having taken two quick wickets bowlers could not take advantage. Stop blaming Sachin for everything

It is important to regularly play Test matches with teams with good bowling attacks. At the moment, only Australia, South Africa and Pakistan have penetrative all-wicket attacks. Playing against teams with ordinary bowlers gives an inflated sense of a batsman’s ability. Dhoni, for instance, is a master of mediocre bowling but is hardly the same batsman against stronger attacks. Closely examine his run of scores and you’ll know what I mean. And he was giving Harris more respect than he deserved.

Both Winning & losing are parts of a game. The entire Indian cricket team is to blame for the loss in the first test.India badly missed the services of Dravid & Laxman. Now,it's clear that tough times are ahead for India in the test arena. When the Fab 3 retire(sachin,Dravid,Laxman) ,India's middle order will be immensely weakened.Harbhajan is still in the team bcoz. there are no effective replacements. As usual, fast - bowling department is not effective at all, apart from Zaheer Khan. The selectors have to answer the following questions.
1. Why was Rohit Sharma selected as cover for Laxman, knowing that Rohit has consistently failed at the international level?
2. Players loke Manish Pandey,Pujara have been fantastic in the longer version of the game at the domestic level. What did Rohit & Raina accomplish to earn a place in the team ahead of Pujara & Pandey.
3. What's the logic behind dropping some players like Abhimanyu Mithun & Sudeep Tyagi from the team without giving them a single chance after getting selected for the tour?
4. How long will the selectors persist with the non-performing players like Ishant & Harbhajan?

Well I dont think , India can ever comeback in the series to be honest and down to earth, We have been enduring the Number 1 Postion since few months, I have sorted out few points which triggered the Indian defeat-
1.PLENTY OF CRICKET (ONE DAY )
2.NO MORE THAN 10 TESTS PLAYED IN A YEAR
3.TOURS NOT PLANNED,EFFICIENTLY, I dont think there was any reason to play with Bangladesh and gets the players injured
4. Lack of committment
5. No reserves for tests and one dayers
6. Poor selection
------
others-- No genuine spinner apart from Harbhajan singh
No strike Bowler apart from Zaheer/ Why Nehra was not given a place.
Where does Dinesh Kartik stands? a reserve? part time one day player...
No responsibilities...
