Has Narendra Modi

Has Narendra Modi's image been affected because of the summons served to him?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 07:38 PM, Mar 11, 2010 | Updated at 07:39 PM, Mar 11, 2010 in IBNPolitics

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has been summoned by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) for his involvement in the Gujarat 2002 communal riots.

During the past few years the laurels earned by MODI have made him too important a figure in Indian Political scenario. He has been hailed by the political and the corporate spectrum for his deliverance. Thus it is very hard to imagine Indian Politics without Modi.

As long as we have fanatics amidst us there will be politicians like Modi ready to exploit religious sentiments of a group of people against others. The larger question we need to examine is "the system" which has been failing us repeatedly. Are we going to do something about it or not?????

But these summons or court cases will have no bearing on the elections or the people's mind.Remember despite full fledged antiModi propaganda in 2007,he still triumphed and, I hope he wins the next election too.He has become the harbinger of development in Gujarat.

From my interactions with Indian Gujaratis in the US, i have found them to be the most communal, narrow minded and racist among all Indians. They do have positve attributes, mostly commercial, so i'm not knocking them entirely, but i reiterate that they are racist in social attributes. Modi is pandering to this constituency that forms the vast majority of Gujaratis. I don't blame him for this but i fear the long term implications of this strategy.

If Narendra Modi is found guilty he must be punished. But that won't solve the problem as he is but a symptom and not the cause of 2002. It is Gujarati society that is to blame and all Gujaratis must be put to shame for soiling the name of India and all Indians due to their narrow mindedness and hatefilled acts and their inbred racism and bigotry. They are a vicious people who are universally disliked in all countries and it is unfair to blame Modi alone for the acts of his fellows. They should be held accountable too.

Nikki007,
You remind me of Hitler who use to hate Jews for there commercial success .Hate some one for commercial reason is worst form of racism reflect in your mindset as commented and need no 007 investigation. If you are unable to succeed in USA a country called champion of freedom then come to Gujarat and see the true Gujarati culture and succeed here and see success of non Gujarati's here.
Yes Gujarati's are commercial in nature but with no envy to its neighbor is universal rule here.Gujarat is land of Dhirubhai Ambani where commercial success of neighbor is taken in right spirit and no one try to pull leg of successful but try to achieve that for himself through hard labor.
Your comment of racist and narrow minded are reflection of Pseudo seculars who wants to give no credit to Gujarat for any success but believe one wrong spoken hundred time look like truth and line of this sponsored media campaign against NAMO running since 2002 with 100% failure.
If you can not succeed then please don't blame Gujarat but yourself for your own failure.I can say this with proud as succeeded in Gujarat being outsider.

@Nikki777

I visit Gujarat three times a month on business and have found Gujarat and Gujaratis to be some of the most culturally advanced and forward looking people in India... I travel across India on business 16 days a month and truly the kind of development that NaMo has brought about in Gujarat is enviable...

I belong to Kerala... I am BTech MBA from premier institutes in the country but am settled in Chennai since Kerala offers no good opportunities for well educated youth except maybe in the field of IT ( though that too is a far cry from opportunities in cities like Bangalore or Chennai)

I only hope other states emulate the NaMo model...

Dear Nikki

Never speak anything just by going or looing into one or two incident

Assessing the people, and a community, which is so large, is never like assessing the rice made out in a vessel, where we press three or four grain of rice to make us to believe that the rice is cookked

That is a wrong assessment to judge any community, my dear friend

Thanks

Lets face it...the borders of this country were drawn under the dark shadow of Hindu-Muslim divide and this shadow has and will continue to haunt both these communities for generations. The sooner we accept this reality the better it is for all of us. Most politicians will choose to not act rather than act in a situation that Narendra Modi was in 2002, he could have either sent in the military with unforeseen consequences or else go on a fast and become a Mahatma but whether going on a fast would have meant action is debatable.

Activists and idealists can go on cursing Modi but the fact remains that these very people even now choose to ignore the riots in Bareily because it makes them feel nervous.

Pls stop posting such offensive msgs. Hindus or muslims born in India are equally Indians. And Gujrat is the birth place the great Mahatma who taught all of us the greatness of tolerance.

We should find out why these differences occur amoung us . And wat is the solution for this difference. Any unthought action will have a reciprocative effect and make the condition worse. Thats wat we are facing now

It can be understood that everybody cannot think same and will have the same mindset. It would be better anything we do should benifit all.

Secularism is a great thought. India is such a big and unique example and lesson to this world for wat we are highly appreciated.India is home for this vat diverse culture and is a miracle.

India is INDIA for these reasons.

Well done India

Ya. U may be right. But for that appeasement and vote bank ploitics should go first. The politicians exploiting that shoud be thrown out. Majortiy taken for granted and quota system should go. All should be treated equally. Special status for kashmir should go. If all these are possible, your views may be a reality.

@aneosh

What is so offensive about the post made by dev07?

At least he has the guts to call a spade a spade... he has not made any derogatory remarks on any reigion or its followers... he has also not mentioned that"95% of Indians believe Modi's hands are not clean"... a statement made by you in one of your replies earlier...

dev07 is unbiased and i cant say that about you

This is the starting of misusing of SIT by UPA govt who has pressurised them to summon Mr Modi. After all Congress has the track record of destructing all democratic instituinoins in India. This is another chapter. However, they will not be able to tarnish the image of Modi.It is sad to note that people like modi who is a strong leader and good administrator, is being brought into unnecessary controversy which will certainly disturb his developmental activities.

Modi has misused the state police for so long. There are well documented cases of his using police and administration for his nefarious acts and agenda... Supreme court has indicted him and his government for such acts...Modi is a mass murderer and needs to get punished for India's betterment.

Police is the ultimate power of the indian politicians to show their influence in their constituencies.. every politician misuse them. But when we come to accountability and responsibility,Modi is intentionally being targetted. In case of bhagalpur riot or anti sikh riot, CMs were not responsible Even if the case of Delhi was different. You can certainly guess the media hype against Modi as he is the future of BJP/NDA and a strong leader.Again Naveen patnaik was not in inews even if swami laxmananand was murdered with his fours disciples.I will only say that it is unfortunate on the part of the UPA govt that they were playing petty politics.

I dont think people would change opinion based on this. People who are Pro MOdi will remain so, so would be the anti Brigade.

Whatever u think this does not change any perceptions about him.

Narendra Modi's image will never be tarnished by any kind of atttempts by his opponents. He will be like a rock. Are these people not aware of the considerable development and prosperity brought about by this dedicated leader and an able administrator? I have been visiting all the states in India. The achievemnets in Gujrat are superb. Let his opponents realise this and instead of trying to create humility for him, follow his methods of achievement for the development and prosperity of the country.
