Will the spat between Mani Shankar Aiyar and Kalmadi affect the Commonwealth Games?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 04:55 PM, Jul 27, 2010 | Updated at 04:57 PM, Jul 27, 2010 in IBNPolitics

Former Union Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar took on Commonwealth Games Federation Chairman Suresh Kalmadi with his comment that he'd would be unhappy if the Commonwealth Games were successful. Aiyar, a Congress MP from Rajya Sabha, said that the funds spent for the October 3-14 Games could have been utilised for ensuring a better sporting future for Indian youth by providing them sports training. Do you think the spat between the two will affect the Games?

Mr. Aiyar has been consistant in his views and never supported the waste of money in the form of this (CWG)show-off.
It's well known that people connected with such projects loot the public funds and officials reward their favourites(chamchas).
Aiyar has done a very brave job by going public to expose the rot behind the socalled great event!

Aiyar suddenly is a socialist leader and speaks to the old ideology of the congress, but he must have been into a long sleep and just got up otherwise he would not have lost his consituency., however his remarks are true to the facts of todays india and politician like kalmadi or sheilaji should take the exit door, such a collousal waste where we do not have proper infrastructures thru out the country and people living with miseries, is it necessary to conduct such stupid commonwelath games, what for , to impress whom, how many percentage of the people of india will really gain or the country benefit, have we measured this facts????

I was watching this debate on yr chan. Iagree with ayar or not but i belive that it is wast of money instead of spanding on 33000 crs. for cw the Govt should hv built godowns for food grain worth of 28000 crs which got damaged due to heavy rains. The godowns will remain for long time. At least no Shamless Minister will be saying [If we build godowns] that THERE IS NOTHING KNEW THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR[FOOD DAMAGE DUE TO RAIN]

I believe Aiyar is a self controlled person ; Even though he is an empty vessel , he don't have that much stamina to oppose the policies of his own govt or supremo..

He becomes another DigVijai Singh!!![PC is tough and DVSingh is soft in Naxals issue]

Before opposition parties' criticisms, nowadays Congress itself raise the issues or criticize the issue side by side ; so that they may get 2 benefits..

1.If an incident or policy of the Govt will be a failure, they can easily make a group of leaders as scapegoats...

2. Indirectly they can get the publicity for the policies or occasions with this type of debates..

yes CONGRESS TRIES TO EXPOSE THEMSELVES AS THE PARTY , WHICH HAS LOT OF FREEDOM IN SPEECH !!!!

MR. IYER IS 1000% RIGHT. LET ALL TOUCH YOUR CONSCIENCE AND TELL, DOES OUR COUNTRY AFFORD FOR THIS MONEY LIKE ANY DEVELOPED COUNTRY. DO WE REQUIRE TO HOLD ALL THESE NONSENSE WHEN WE REQUIRE LOTS OF MONEY FOR MANY ESSENTIAL THINGS IN OUR COUNTRY. CANT WE GO OUT AND PARTICIPATE IN OTHER COUNTRY AS WE DID EARLY. THIS WAY POLITICIANS DECIDED ONLY TO LOOT MONEY. NOTHING ELSE IS THE REAL REASON.

Agree in totality with you. First of all country like ours can't really afford all this. And then when all this money is finally being spent, there should have been solid results on the ground. But instead it is now going to get a very bad name for our country. It will be a double blow, loosing pride for not being able to host games the way expected and then we have still spend a huge amount for not hosting it properly. Look at South Africa, they came out as winner, it was probably one of the most memorable FIFA event of all times. But then the South Africans pushed in all their abilities to make it come true. On the contrary we still see visuals of water being swiped out from an INDOOR stadium for athletics event... It would have been better if it was built to be an outdoor stadium rather !!!
