Karnataka bans iron ore export: Will this curb illegal mining?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 11:28 AM, Jul 30, 2010 | Updated at 02:41 PM, Jul 30, 2010 in IBNPolitics

The BJP-led Karnataka government has banned the export of iron ore in order to check illegal mining which has been rampant in the state. The decision taken by the B S Yeddyurappa government will prevent miners from transporting iron ore to ports in the neighbouring states. The state government has already banned issuing permits to transport iron ore and other minerals for exports. Will the ban on iron ore export help check illegal mining in Karnataka?

The language of the politicians will have to be taken conversely.

Exports of all kinds of raw minerals should be totally banned because it is a limited resource and it will be empty within a few decades.

Ban on anything has never been able to curb the illegality of that very thing.
