Is the BCCI being fair to Sourav?

Is the BCCI being fair to Sourav? | Read story

After being left out of the Rest of India squad for the Irani Trophy, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been included in the Indian Test squad for the first two Tests against Australia. The buzz doing the rounds is that the series will be Ganguly's last and he is likely to announce his retirement after the series. Over the last year, Ganguly has made over 1,000 runs in Test cricket at an impressive average of nearly 45, which is above his career average. However, he failed to do much during the Sri Lanka tour and had scored less than 100 runs. Is the BCCI being fair to the all-rounder?

The senior players should know when its time to quit. They cant just drag on and on. Youner players must be given a chance because the way things are going the yuounger players will become too senior before they are ever given a chance!

I think BCCi is fair enough with Sourav as he has got lot many chances to prove himself in almost every big series. his selection for the 1st two test is the right decession and in the right way.his replacement should be atleast at par with him if not better and it was proved in srilanka that many younger players failed miserably.
If he do not perform in the first two test than he should be left out straight away.

The BCCI has certainly been unfair to Ganguly. What if Ganguly responds with a couple of tons in the series againt Ausies? If that happens, it will be interesting to see if the BCCI will still dare to show him the doors!

This is not fair on a Ganguly.Selectors think they are doing a great job.BCCI should feel shame of themselves. What are they doing?
If Ganguly is not selected on his performance, then what about Laxman,Dravid and Tendulkar.Selectors should not forget that these people are the one who contributed a lot and now by denying chances, they are killing Indian cricket.
I think their plan is to keep moving thsi topic, until where ganguly age goes upto 60+ where he cant play even if they call.

It is really hurting as indian cricket fan

Sourav has done enough justice to retain a spot in the side, there has been instances in the past where he had to prove himself time and again to regain the place, which he did with fanfare in south africa, The FAB four have always been in the limelight before and after the series, this makes the job of the oppostion all the more easy, sourov needs to do a reality check as to where he fits in the scheme of things and instead of being shown the door needs to make a graceful exit. Once selected the assesment should be on performance and not on the selection of the player.

BCCI (Bombay Cricketers Club (playing for) India is always biased and partial in selection process.
Well.. even if Sourav is being selected with rider, this should not have been made public.
Also on what basis Sachin (who is injured(probably for shooting the ad's)) most of the time is being selected despite a pathetic show after 2001.
I hope Sourav should rather reject this offer and anounce his retirement before the series... let us see how the other selected seniors perform in this series.

The BCCI is not only being grossly unjust in treating Ganguly like this, it is also proving how biased it is. Sachin can flop a million times - and he is not much better than any other of the Fab Four - but no one will ever treat him so shoddily. Compared to Lara, he is just another average batsman - and a very old one at that, but only Ganguly will be the target. Even such a boring cricketer like Dravid is not questioned or called old, but all hell breaks loose as soon as Ganguly's right for fair treatment is called for.
Sourav should immediately announce his retirement and declare that he will not play in any match of the current series.
He should have anticipated this and gone out like Adam Gilchrist.

It was not fair on the part of the BCCI to have been treating Ganguly who has contributed so much for Indian cricket so badly.it was wrong to have dropped him for the Rest of India team in the Irani trophy.Atleast now better sense has prevailed upon them and we are glad that he has been included in the Test series against Australians.I am sure he would comeout with a good performance as a challenge against his being sidelined all these months.
Srikantiah.
