Kerala CM insults NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan

Kerala CM insults NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan's family. Comment | Read Story

TimePosted by IBNLive at 09:31 AM, Dec 02, 2008 | Updated at 10:40 AM, Dec 02, 2008 in India

"If it had not been (Major) Sandeep's house, not even a dog would have glanced that way," is what Kerala CM V S Achuthanandan had to say about the family of slain NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The Communist leader's remarks came after the slain Major's father refused to meet the Kerala CM as he didn't want to politicise his son's death. The NSG commando, who was engaged in rescuing hostages of the Mumbai siege, laid down his life while trying to save a NSG commando. At a time when the Unnikrishnans are trying to cope with the death of their young son, was there any need for the Kerala CM to display such scorn?

Current Rating:

I am very disappointed with the comments from various politicians. It shows that no politician really understands what makes a leader nor they understand the responsibilities that come with it.

I really want to send all politicians these messages, and will appreciate if media can deliver these messages.

To Kerala CM: I think appropriate answer to him would be, If he would have not been a CM, then on a similar note, no Dog would have even bothered to look at him.

To BJP leader: He called people protesting as terrorists. Well, he is representing those terrorists only. So being a leader of terrorists, he should ideally be executed publicly.

To Maharashtra Congress leader: He said small things happen in big countries. Well suppose he is not given that Z level protection and he is killed during the terrorist’s attacks. Then it can be rightly said that small people or big politicians die in big countries. Not a big deal!

I request people of India that this is the time of awakening. If we fail to elect capable leaders now, then our country is destined to be doomed. I am working in UK, and after coming here have realized the fact that a foreign country will always be foreign, and the sense of security one have in his own homeland can never be replaced.

Save our country! It’s now or never!

Jai Hind!!

I want CM V S Achuthanandan not to apologise. The matter is not insignificant and a mere apology is not enough. I also don't want him to resign because they make a big deal about their soul and conscience etc that wakes very late. No I want such people to be banned from any political role. Something which is more binding and hurts. We can never get our Major back. Can we.
Every median channel should actively channelise our opinions and make sure we get heard through this platform.
Lets us not ease out and specially the media because beleive me many of us want to say a lot but have in appropriate means, medium or platforms. Please provide us the mike to let justice prevail.

I agree with you. These apologies and resignations have turned into a JOKE. They make a mockery out of us and its not acceptable any more. Such people should be banned from any political role, if their parties can't do it, we the voter should ensure it.

"We can never get our Major back, Can we" - seems to imply that the Kerala CM was responsible for this death.
No second opinion - the remarks of VSA, under the stature of a CM were definitely inappropriate and no one is going to defend it.
At the same time, I feel the media, public and all are making it bigger than it is. The sentiments are big, the mistake is big, but the exaggerations and extrapolations are disproportionate. A strong warning and feedback to change his language and style should have been sufficient. This sort of yelling would not help some one learn and improve.
Why isn't anyone providing any feedback or comment on the Major's father's behaviour? Surely, he could have conducted him more sanely and provided an example of what is expected of others

The word DISGUSTING is not enough to describe this statement from the Kerala CM. I am sure Sir (Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s Father) does not want this man’s apology. He refused to meet this man because he came there with sniffer dogs out of compulsion by the media reports. Now after this outrage even if he apologies what is the damn use. Where is his party? Its High Command? Are they sleeping? Not one statement from his party came out yesterday against this insult. Now everything is too late, apology or no apology they are all the same. I as an Indian feel insulted and ashamed and I can’t imagine what Sir and his family must be going though.

The best thing that can be done is to just take off all the security of this man. Why any one should be protecting his life if their families have to hear this. His security people should just refuse to protect this man. I can only imagine what a shameless person he must be to be able to face his own security staff after those comments.

We don’t want insensitive cheap leaders like Shivraj Patil, RR Patil, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and V S Achuthanandan any more; they are a disgrace to the entire country and our democracy. People wake up and ensure that these people are never elected for any position in the government. They should all be cooling their heels at home for the rest of their lives.

Yes, Where is the Communist party? Will they asked the CM of KERALA to step down? I believe the party has asked someone to step down. The CM of kerala's comments are what you call "Stone Age" comments, because I think he should be living in caves.

It is an absolutely outrageous unethical and a very low down cheap comment from our so called leaders of the state who have not been taught how to respect martyrs. In times of crisis it is people like major Sandeep who come to our rescue not some chief minister or member of parliament. i salute Major Sandeep for his ultimate sacrifice and i too wish that i follow in his footsteps someday. and want to give all my heartiest condolences to his family at this time.

Achuthanandan himself justified the act of Unnikrishnan's father kicking him out from the house, As that is the house of a Martyr and in India. DOGS are not allowed at a holly place.

Insulting a father of a son who gave his life for our nation is unacceptable.

Politicians in India are like mad dogs, so they can compare others to their kind alone & it is natural .

Shame to Kerala to hold this kind of CM ,who has no control over his language ?

What the (dis)Honourable CM meant was :

“The only good Army officer is a dead Army officer”.

Mr Karat needs to clarify whether that is the official CPM Party line. Of couse Karat feels Achutananadan’s remarks are regrettable because they have triggered an uproar.
